Who are you rooting against?
As we now know, mark twain is one of the few on this site to root for the Lakers in these playoffs. Uggh. Well, in his case and for pretty much everyone else on this site, the team we end up pulling for happens to be the one we despise the least. Why not list them in the order that we are rooting against them? Here's mine...
Lakers
Celtics
Spurs
Hornets
Pistons
... so I guess I'm pulling for the Pistons. They already have a championship and I figure what's one more, even with all Sheed's baggage. Part of me knows I really shouldn't pull for the Hornets because in all likelihood we'll be rivals for years and it's only a matter of time until I really hate them too. It'll probably be right around the time that CP3 punches one of our guys in the balls (although I don't hold it against him for going after Bowen's jewels -- that should happen at least once a week).

Why,
do people like the Spurs so much? Bruce Bowen is on the Spurs.

Because we're going to be the Spurs, part 2.
Only North. Here come the championships!

Tim Duncan is a
nice guy, and David Robinson was one of the all time nice guys. Bruce, and Horry sour them a bit, but their main guys are cool.
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

I don't know if "cool" is the right word.
I don’t want to be the Spurs 2.0. No thanks.

I was kinda hopin’ the Cads would crush all the Celtics hoopla (Team of paid “Gunslingers”).
Now I guess The Hornies are my least loathed but give ‘em time.

Because that poll's been done a hundred times
Everybody knows the L*kers are going to run away with it in a landslide if they’re mentioned. I want to see who comes in 2nd.

Boo Celts!
I was really hoping the LeBrons would take care of them, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be.
On a side note, why did Mike Brown keep Ben Wallace in so late in the 4th. I mean he was getting beat by Garnett anyway, so why not put in someone (e.g. Joe Smith) who atleast makes it so your not playing 4 on 5 when you have the ball?
On another side not, what the heck happened to Wallace?! I guess age really has caught him now, and that it wasn’t entirely the Bulls “toxic” environment.

Lebron is weak, no Jordan is he.
He let game one and two slip away. Jordon closes out games he can win so he didn’t have to do the game seven. The Cavs could have had games one and two if James had shown up.
Here's to being hated. Come on #1 pick!

I have to agree on the Celtics.
I can’t think of a worse prospect than an LA-Boston finals. I think I might just turn off basketball for a while, and pretend that no one won in 2008.

What about the Jazz vs the Heat.
And I’m talking about the Shaq heat.

I don't really have anything against the Jazz or the Heat.
I know the Jazz are division rivals, any I always want them to lose if it means a higher position for us, but I don’t hate them like many people here do. I wouldn’t mind watching them play against someone else though.
The Heat I really don’t have a dislike for. Sure they were put on national TV way too much this year for being the worst team in the league, but meh. I can’t hate them either, even with Shaq. He’s not good enough anymore to hate.

Not sure how this post is differnt than mine
since the end result of the poll is the same, but I digress. I voted Celtics, because they’re not deserving of it in my book.
by mark twain on May 18, 2008 7:16 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Isn't the poll actually the opposite?
I’m asking what team Blazer nation is rooting against aside from the obvious answer.
by shralpster on May 18, 2008 7:20 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
It's the opposite but the result is the same
As in, whoever gets the lowest amount of votes on my poll is obviously the team least rooted for? I don’t know, maybe I’m just hot, cranky and tired right now. Pay no attention to me.
by mark twain on May 18, 2008 7:24 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Umm, no.
There are several teams who made it to the second round (Utah, Cavs, Spurs, and Pistons)
whom I neither like nor dislike, and they would be near the bottom of BOTH polls for me.
That’s my “Apathy” division.
Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.
by QualityPie on May 18, 2008 7:33 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'd have an apathy division,
except I can’t really motivate myself to do it.

I'm actually rooting against the Hornets.
This is because they’re the closest to the Blazers’ timeline, and the sooner they win big, the harder it will be for the Blazers to beat them long term. Besides that, I’d root against the Celtics. Mainly because they’re the antithesis of what we’re doing. Trade for stars and hope it works. That’s not supposed to work. After that, I’d root against the Lakers, but I’m finding it hard to hate them nowadays, so I just kinda watch them and don’t care that much whether they win or lose. If they get San Antonio though, I’ll be rooting for the Spurs to beat them.

When did it become okay...
to spell out L*kers?
I am practicing hating the Hornets now. But actively hating the Celtics, esp. Sam Cassell, James Posey, Ray Allen and the rest of those carry a carpetbag for a ring.
Is there a team to like?

Spurs.
I love their game, but I can’t stand their flopping and whining. Just unbearable at this point.

Easy -- the Celtics
For some reason, I can’t stand the Celtics. I lived in Boston and Massachusetts for ten years. I love Boston; it’s my second favorite city. When I lived there I rooted for the Cs, the Sox, etc. But the buy-a-bunch-of-superstars approach turns me off, almost to the point of being irrational. Maybe it’s somehow rooted in my dislike for Bob Whitsitt.
Add me to the list of people who think a Boston-L*kers finals would be the worst. I’d watch, but only because I’m genetically wired that way.

It would be AWFUL
And so awful if either team won. I can’t stand either team; the Celtics hate is probably a lot more irrational, cuz why should I care ‘bout ‘dem? Well, I do dammit and I don’t like the Red Sox either. They’re just an acceptable to like version of the Yankees, just as bloated and evil. I like Boston the city though.
The taunting of Portland and the Blazers after Boston lost the lottery burned my britches too. I’m glad Johnny Portland won the coin flip over Eddie Boston, so we got a GOOD name for a city.
Plus, the constant comparison to the old LA and Boston 80’s teams, and the sure-to-be-constant ‘oh, the NBA needs this matchup’ crap will eat up my gut like a bullet in the groceries.
I guess I’d have to root for the Celtics in the matchup though, as I couldn’t stomach the Lakers winning. Plus, the Celtics are gonna suck real soon and the title will be tainted just like the Heat’s is. Just a title bought, not earned. No one will count it as a real championship in the long run, so I can get behind that.
