Davis sign and trade deal?

What are the options with B. Davis?

Star-divide

I was wondering... With Davis threatening to opt out, is it feasible for the Blazers to put together a sign and trade deal with Golden State for Davis? Maybe Lafrentz, the 13th pick, 1-2 second round picks, a point guard and Martell. Is that a possibility, I'm sure it's not possible as I haven't seen any posts on it but was curious? Seems like the $$ could work out? Please educate me.

this is where this discussion is happening.

The only problem I see with the new format at B-edge is that only 10 posts are kept on the front page, rather than 20 or more on the old format.

I've got 20 on my screen.

But it has scrolled down off of those too. I think you can adjust those things in your settings. But you are right, it has been discussed. But since monkeybones just joined us today, I don’t fault him (her?) for missing it.

Welcome monkeybones!

If you set it to 50, you can read a lot more Timbo comments.

Better late than never!

Actually, there are many cases when this isn’t true. Like at the end of Cast Away, when the guy finally makes it back to the mainland only to find that his wife had already married someone else. That would totally suck. I think even worse than having the organ-transplant team arrive late.

What I’m trying to say is that it is too late to introduce yourself. We already know who you are! Sorry, the smart-aleck in me couldn’t resist. :)

Baron Davis

Raef’s contract wouldn’t be appealling to them, since they could also just let Baron’s come off the books, and have a year with a decent player. I can’t see any reason why they would trade him. portland’s best bet is to hope he doesn’t opt out this year (He won’t no one else is going to offer him that kind of money) with the GSW’s and then sign him when we get increased cap space.

by TheOdenator on May 16, 2008 3:20 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Not Raef by himself

But if LaFrentz’s contract essentially was used as ‘filler’ to match salaries, GS might be interested. If they could get some younger (and cheaper) players along with LaFrentz, they might bite.

It would be great to have Baron pushing on the break. However, I’m not sure if he’d be willing to defer to Brandon enough in the half-court to make this trade worthwhile. If having Baron on the squad means squelching the development of Roy that we’ve all seen over the last 2 years, I think I’d rather look elsewhere for help at the point.

by Storyteller on May 16, 2008 7:55 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

hey dude

they dont need LaFrentz contract, they want to give that money to Monta Ellis. And if they dont want to pay Davis alot of money, they can make a sing and trade. Why do we want to trade LaFrentze away? because we dont know for sure that we could just sing the free agent we want, when he comes of the books. So Warriors would not want to depend on the free agents market, and and thus wont trade for Lafrentze, but trade Davis for the same value.

I want to sing and trade, I want to sing and trade!

I’m sure you meant “sign” and not “sing” but the error is a fun one. Next up, Blazers – The Musical!

yeah

thats what the Warriors probably think, when they hear us talk about getting Davis for Lafretze. They want to sing a song and trade.

by RipCity on May 17, 2008 1:19 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe.

GS doesn’t really need cap room though. Travis would almost certainly have to be included in any deal. I love Davis, but I don’t think it would be a wise choice. The guy just gets hurt too much. Monte Ellis on the other hand would be an amazing option, although almost impossible to get. Having the fastest guy in the NBA on the roster might solve a few problems for the Blazers.

In other news, a bunch of basketball “experts” have been writing about the Nets almost certainly making a big trade this year. John Hollinger mentions that the Nets will probably need a third team to make a deal work. Maybe my Devin Harris dreams will be answered after all.

Here is a question. Considering how great Devin Harris is, and how much potential Sergio has, would trading Steve Blake be such a bad idea? If Harris plays 33 minutes a game at PG, couldn’t Brandon, Rudy and Sergio fill the other 15?

Steve is great and everything, but Rudy is probably a better option playing off the ball when Brandon is running the point. Throwing Steve into the mix would also increase the chances of making a deal with the Nets. Am I wrong?

I've been toying with this for more than a month.

If you look at the minutes each player will get, Blake sure gets the end of the stick. We’re just dealing with “Ifs”, but Roy is going to get minutes here. Any player Portland gets will play a lot. If Jack is not traded…if Rodriguez is not traded…Rudy can play some point…ect.

If it’s Calderon, I think that Toronto would be much more interested in a Outlaw and Blake deal (works cap wise) than a Outlaw and Jack deal (doesn’t work). If it’s Webster and Blake (cap wise might work) and Webster and Jack (doesn’t work). Jack is not a Suns type of player and that is who they are looking for.

I think that Outlaw and Blake is too much. But I think it was Mike Barrett that said to get Calderon, Portland might have to sweeten the pot to get them to do a deal with us.

ok

my fealings wouldn’t be hurt to find devon on the roster, we need bfan do figure out the particulars. hes good at that kinda thing

Here Are Some Important...

Baron Davis numbers: 32, 15, 36, 28, 19.

Those are the number of games he missed in 5 consecutive years before last season.

He’s a giant injury risk and his back may very well shorten his career similar to Larry Bird.

Portland shouldn’t be trading any assets for a PG that will possibly be available as a free agent when Portland has cap-space. It would be dumb to do so.

by moldorf on May 16, 2008 6:14 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

In light of his injury proneness

We should pass on Baron. Great baller, I would have loved to seen how his career would have panned out without his horrific string of injuries.

by LMA on May 17, 2008 11:47 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Definitely agree that he's a great baller

but part of that horrific string of injuries was due to lackadaisical offseason training habits and carrying a few extra pounds during the season (or so I’ve read anyway). Constantly pounding knees and ankles with excess poundage ain’t a great way to stay injury free—just ask Shaq. Also, I cock one hugely skeptical eyebrow at “32, 15, 36, 28, 19” for five consecutive seasons and then, lo and behold, 82 games played during a contract year! Great baller. Not my kind of baller, nor the new-look Blazers’ kind either. Pass.
