Carmelo Anthony a Trailblazer?
ESPN.com is reporting that the Denver Nuggets are listening to offers for Carmelo Anthony, among others. With all the talk that the Blazers could use an upgrade at the SF, could Melo be the answer? I don't believe he fits the image here in Portland as far as his off the court transgressions, but is he past the point of redemption? Does he deserve a second chance? Could Portland be the fresh start he needs? What would we have to give up to obtain his services? Our diginity? I'm not sure how I feel about this, but there is no denying a possible starting line-up of Roy, Fernandez, Anthony, LMA, and G.O. is definitely intriguing. How about it?

Well
I voted no, mostly because I don’t believe he fits into that we have here in Portland.
Our scoring average would skyrocket, but his defense is horrible, so I say PASS.

Not worth it
Melo is only good at one end of the court. To get him we would probably have to give up one of our big three, all of whom look like they will be good at both ends of the court.
Good at both ends > good at one end

Yikes.
I live in Colorado so I get all the Thugget news I can handle, and I can tell you we want nothing to do with this guy, and it has nothing to do with traffic violations.
He plays ZERO defense. None. And he’s a pouty player who will start hogging the ball if he goes too many possessions without a shot. There is a reason Denver hasn’t been able to get out of the first round the last few years, and he’s a big part of it.
Right now I think Carmelo is possibly the most overrated player in the NBA. No thanks.

I agree
I thought he was overrated from the start…

touche, good sir. great minds think alike, no?
Blake brings it up on the right, swings it to Webster on the elbow, he moves around the key and passes to the low left block for Aldridge, Aldridge jukes baseline, turns back in and finds Roy cutting down the seam, ROY THROWS IT UP AT THE RIM FOR ODEN WHO THROWS IT DOWN FOR THE TWO HANDED MONSTER JAM!!! Great fantasy team, not a good Blazers team.

Hello
Agreed. Good from far, far from good. I might try to make this deal after 7 or 8 beers though.

Oh man, no way.
I’ll never shake the image of Melo punching Collins and back pedaling like a… um, girl. That guy is tainted in my book. Good shot of it at 1:16…

wtf
Why was Fry ejected?

Because he was nearby?
You can see Frye trying to hold back his teammate and stop the fight. David Lee and Eduardo Najera were clearly trying to stop the fight as well, but they were also ejected. The refs must have decided it would be easiest to just eject everyone and sort things out later.

NO
we would rightly be looked at like a bunch of self serving jacka$$es. Our city puts on this big show about caring about good ettiqettte, caring about our comunity, having someone that our kids can look up to, rebuilding around culture, ect the list can be incresed by anyone with goodwill toward his fellow man or woman. Then with greed in our hearts and championships within our grasp, we put into practice the same situational ethics of the most newsworthy clergy, further alianating our fair city as a bunch of hippocrites. Yes the question has to be asked, if only to ensure the resounding NO!!

I think some fans need to stop
playing NBA live…these “dream” starting lineups need to stop. I’ll take depth on the bench over a potential 4 or 5 stars on the starting lineup anyday.

I miss the good years of Live...
When you could create a new team with their own court and jerseys and put all your friends on it and go dynasty. It was fun back then. I never got Melo like everyone else did, he seems to be a one dimensional black hole. If we are getting an upgrade at SF, he needs to be a top level defender IMO, like Artest or Battier.
by MGNNoah on May 16, 2008 8:14 AM PDT 0 recs
Even if he wasn't one-dimensional
I don’t think Portland is at a place where we can accept a player well known for off the court problems. I won’t blame Melo for them all, but he’s got stuff he seems to deal with constantly and Portland sure ain’t ready for that again. I don’t think he seems like a bad kid, but he still seems like a kid.
Even if he was perfect, played defense, good teammate, etc, his off ‘da court stuff prevents him from being a Blazer.

No, nope, nopers, no way, no where, no when, no how, no, no, no, right to say no
Well… maybe…. no.
Zach as a SF sums it up perfectly. I like our boys as they are and I still have faith in Webster for one more year. PG is the place that needs the fixing, we have the talent level/potential we need at the SF.

He is the Zach Randolph of Small Forwards
I would be seriously disappointed if KP brought him here.
I’d also be very surprised if he gets serious consideration from us.

Pass
I’m not prepared for Carmelo to lead us to the same dizzying heights he’d led the Nuggets. And although we definitely need another person around town to chug a few and step into their cars, I just don’t think I could handle all the excitment the Carmelo package would bring to town.
