Evidence or just funny

blzrfan posted the video from the end of last night's LA-Utah game on this post

http://www.blazersedge.com/2008/5/15/509968/what-s-wrong-with-the-play

I'm bringing it to a new post because after watching it a bazillion times, and laughing so hard everyone in the office came to see what I was looking at, I started thinking that Boozer is a better defender than that video shows.

In the video, you can see Gasol (shove?) move Okur out of the way, grab a rebound, go up for a dunk.  Boozer's right there on D, could easily have fouled or altered the shot.  The guy doesn't even leave his feet.  It's funny to me, but I can't help wondering (as the hated Boston fan in my office did) whether there's something else going on here.  Is it possible that Boozer intentionally played no D there?

Go to the page, look at it.  Or if blzrfan could post it, I'd really appreciate it.  AND MANY THANKS TO BLZRFAN FOR POSTING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

He didn't

expect Okur to flop so horribly, and so I think he was blocking a pass back to Odom. If Okur had just stayed there Gasol wouldn’t have had that ridiculously open lane, and Boozer would have been helping trap, along with blocking the pass.

Here it is

I’ve seen the big replay and Boozer is actually trying to scare Gasol into missing the dunk. I’m completely serious. He’s yelling and flailing his arms in vain. I’m pretty sure he’s the worst defensive PF in the league, I hope the Jazz keep him.

Boozer is a floozer

He is a pretty bad defender ain’t he, especially for a Sloan PF. He’s great offensively though…

Unlike Z-Bo, he doesn’t seem to get enough crap for his defense… I wonder why. Mayb Z-Bo’s extracurricular stuff makes people harp on his D? Or his selfish play otherwise makes it seem worse.

Ok, I’m done pondering. Boozer is a beast on offense, and I expected him to do better against Gasol and Odom.

The Jazz Ticked Me Off Last Night

They kept driving to the basket, trying to draw contact, and throwing up horrible shots. I hate to say it but Kobe would have dunked half those shots. The Jazz just looked stupid last night.

the thing is

that Zach is not half the offensive player Boozer is.

Very true

But they are equal defensively, and I think Boozer has less of an excuse because he is much, much more athletic than that poor Z-Bo. Z-Bo is aggressively unathletic, and it ain’t his fault!

Poor Z-Bo…

Boozer was boxing out Odom.

Odom is a pretty live body and definitely would have been in the play if Boozer hadn’t boxed him out. Okur was supposed to get the rebound, and kind of flopped, hoping for a call, and didn’t get it.

I wish more people would post

video like that since i can’t get you tube at work but seem to be able to view this. I think he was stunned by the nasty smell of sweat and ciggarettes to be able to react to the play.

"The next day in practice, if you sweat, it's going to come out of your pores, regardless. If you ask any coach around the league how many times they have smelled liquor on a player . . . As long as that player is showing up on time, doing the drills and running, that's part of it. But there have been times, yeah. Yeah, you probably smelled liquor on me. But it's not like I'm at practice drunk. I'm totally focused."

Very Funny

I wondered who they pulled it off. They must have a magical computer.

How do you do that?

If it fills a need, if it fills a rebuilding situation. And my goal is to fill and rebuild and I am not going to be shortsighted.
