And the executive of the year is... [lol]
... Danny Ainge!
Sporting News has named Boston Celtics Executive Director, Basketball Operations and General Manager, the 2007-08 NBA Executive of the Year.
Sporting News polled general managers and other executives from all 30 teams, and Ainge received 18 of the 47 votes cast. He beat out Los Angeles Lakers general manager, Mitch Kupchak, who had 14 votes, and New Orleans Hornets general manager Jeff Bower who had 12.
"Did you hear, Danny Ainge got executive of the year?"

Executives getting rewarded for flash in the pan
2003-2004 Jerry West Memphis Grizzlies
2004-2005 Bryan Colangelo Phoenix Suns
2005-2006 Elgin Baylor Los Angeles Clippers
2006-2007 Bryan Colangelo Toronto Raptors
2007-2008 Danny Ainge Boston Celtics
You know this award is about panic decisions, short term success, and one year turn arounds when RC Buford of the San Antonio Spurs has yet to win one. LOL. Joe Dumars and Geoff Petrie are the only legit winners the past 10 years.

best executiving is seen over YEARS
Not just one season. KP’s radical change of the Blazers franchise took a few seasons, and it is all the more remarkable considering where we came from. All of the EOY winners are just being evaluated over one season, when the best really take YEARS making the team a success. RC Buford hasn’t made any splashy changes, just smart adjustments year in year out. I mean, Elgin Baylor won?! For the Clippers winning almost 50 games?
And what did Colangelo do in his first year as Toronto GM? Traded Charlie V for TJ Ford and they won almost 50 games.
Danny Ainge was ruining one of the NBA’s storied franchises; not as bad as Isiah but his pushing for the team to tank was shameful. Now he’s the best executive, huh? Oh well.
Not that I expected KP to win; we got lucky with Oden and Roy/LMA were last year. Of course, we traded Z-Bo for Frye and added 9 wins…
Well, to counter my argument, it IS given each year, so taking past years accomplishments into account would kinda be cheating. I don’t like it when they do that for the MVP, so I guess I don’t like it for EOY.
Recent history suggests it is kinda a silly award.

Sweet
Glad no one from LA won and glad KP didn’t win. I don’t like those awards. Look how many Coaches of the Year are no longer coaching the team that they won the award with. I think it’s the kiss of death. So here is to hoping KP never wins it and Nate never wins the coaching award.
I do feel that KP did a better job than those other guys.

Well Paul Allen owns
Sporting News!
Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."

Allen should order his people
He should order his Sporting News people to make a mock up of what the front page of the Sporting News would look like if KP won and get it framed for KP and have a nice get together with cake and pizza. You know, just to make KP feel nice.
There could even be refreshing soda to drink.

Well ...
He did trade a pile of crap for two perennial all-stars, both hall-of-fame candidates. Not too shabby. Even though our GM is better.

the trophy was super tiny
Did you all see him get it at the beginning of the Celtics/Cavs game? Kind of funny

It's normally much larger
but even D. Stern knew that wasn’t appropriate this year.

At least Kupchak didn't win
Having to hand over the award to Chris Wallace during the press conference just would have been embarrasing. At least now Ainge will have a nice doorstop after the Celtics lose to the Pistons. Or do you think this trade buys him a couple more years?

Hey Nate
Is that a piece of paper sticking out of your pants? Or are you happy to see me?

This photo disproves
all of the speculation that Nate and KP’s relationship has soured over Sergio’s future role with the team.
