Russell Westbrook to the Clippers?
1.Wesbrook is basically a taller, more talented version of Rajon Rondo.
2. He has the uncanny ability of getting the ball to big men down low. That wouldn't came in handy would it?
3. He has a high basketball IQ.
4. He led the team in assists and "After the first of March, Westbrook collected three turnovers or greater in only one game".
I have heard a couple people state that they wouldn't take Westbrook even if he was available at the 13th spot. Let me ask you something. Are you on crazy pills? Who would you want to take instead, Batum? Get real.
What would we have to give up in order to obtain their #6 pick? I'm thinking Jack, our 13th pick, both second round picks and maybe a future first round pick. The Clippers want to rebuild and we are pretty much built.

Nice highlights
Loved the inbounds of the back of the defender at 0:46 (very tricksy!) and the block at 1:55. He looks like he could replace the willingness to drive that Jack exhibits, although even the Lopez brothers aren’t nearly as intimidating as NBA frontcourt players. Also loved the mohawk he was rocking early last season.

almost too good to be true
that blog entry makes Westbrook look pretty darn good. I wouldn’t think twice about trading Jack and some picks to get him—you’d be getting back a fairly similar player, minus experience, but plus some serious defense. A lot of his weaknesses (not a true point guard, not a great ball-handler) would be minimized playing opposite Roy, where he wouldn’t have to control the ball or manage the floor full-time. If he could add a 3 point shot to his arsenal, wouldn’t that basically be the combo guard we’ve all been hoping for? Plus we could definitely use another mohawk to team up with Oden.

don't need him
Westbrook is a nice player and everything but seriously, we don’t need him. We don’t need any more lottery picks. Taurean Green won titles in college, was known for a good shooter and a pretty good defender but yet was buried on our bench. I hate to break it to Westbrook lovers but Drafting him would be a similar scenerio. Especially if we go out and try and upgrade the pg position through free agency or trade. By the way, he is a terrible shooter so putting him in at backup sg isn’t going to get much out of the offense and Rudy already plays there anyway. I think we all just need to come to the conclusion that we are trading our pick plus other pieces for a proven pg (Calderon, Harris, Davis). Let the Clippers have him! I for one will be rejoicing if they take him..

I disagree
Westbrook is way bigger than Green, more athletic, and a better defender.

Uhh, Taurean Green was a marginal prospect
consensus late second round pick, who folks projected as having maybe a tyronn lue-type upside. Despite the madness of the homer crowd here, no one expected anything of him, and considering that he wasn’t a particularly good defender at the college level, no one really thought of him as a good defensive pg prospect in the bigs. He was a shoot first 6 foot pg who couldn’t really shoot, who didn’t rate well in terms of athleticism or length.
Westbrook is consensus lottery pick, has a good 3 inches on Taurean, is one of the top defenders at his position in college who locked down OJ Mayo and Jarryd Bayless in face to face matchups, is a phenomenal athlete and has great length and wingspan.
These two guys basically have nothing in common.

yeah..
Not sayin that he’s not better than Green but he is ANOTHER point gaurd. I think we are done trying to find our point gaurd through the draft. Telfair, Jack, Kopponen, Sergio, Green. I mean seriously, no more point gaurds through the draft please and I really believe management thinks that. They have said so many times that point gaurd is the one position where we need to upgrade and get better, in my opinion that isn’t through the draft, that is through trade or free agency. Westbrook isn’t really an upgrade over Jack

At any rate...
stick a fork in Hillary.
She’s done.
The only question is—will she bow out nicely and help pave the way for Obama to beat McCain, or will she continue to insist that she deserves the nomination, because she’s got the market on the “I ain’t gonna vote for no nee-gro” vote cornered? I’ve even heard the suggestion (from an anonymous poster on some political blog; not from any reliable source), that she might consider a run as an independent. (!!!)
She’s sounding a bit more conciliatory, with her “it would be a grave error to vote for McCain over Obama” speech today, but I think she’s poisoned the well too much to get the veep spot.
Discussion of Obama is on-topic, as he would be our first hoops man as President. (Maybe he should offer Bill Bradley a senior post in his administration). We’ve had a football player (Ford), and a baseball owner (Dubya); let’s hope that the Obama administration will be a slam dunk, rather than a fumble (Ford) or an error (W).
So there.

She pretty much dug up all the dirt on him, that the other party could have used. I’m sure they’ll find more, but that preacher stuff would have killed him, if it would have came out closer to November. I don’t even know why I’m talking about this, except that I watch CNN for 8 hours a day at work. Here's a bold prediction for ya, Tom
David Cook gets Daughtry’d tonight, and it’s an Archuleta/Syesha final.
God, that would put a capper on an already sucky Idol season.
But it could happen, despite the judges transparent attempts last night to make sure Syesha gets the boot. Especially complaining about “song choice” when two of the songs weren’t picked by her. (I don’t think she’ll do well as a pop star, but she could have a nice career on Broadway with her voice…)

I don’t mind running with y’all down the rabbit trails on BE, but I find myself biting my tongue whenever fisheyes and those who share his political persuasion start spewing their political opinions on BE. I take my political views elsewhere because that’s not what this site is about and I don’t want to upset anyone here. Why can’t you do the same for me?
It would be one thing if folks - including myself - were able to discuss politics calmly and with an open mind, but those days seem to be long gone in America now. Let’s stay away from non-BE topics that upset everyone and keep BE a fun place for all.

Clippers First Round Picks, Last Ten Years
2007 – Took Al Thornton #14. Remains to be seen how this turns out.
2005 – Took Yaroslav Korolev #12. That’s not a joke.
2004 – Took Shaun Livingston #4. Worst injury highlight since LT put Theismann’s leg in the blender.
2003 – Took Chris Kaman #6. Hey, it’s the NBA, not a beauty contest!
2002 – Took Chris Wilcox #8. Dude murdered my fantasy team last year.
- also took Melvin Ely #12. Currently bricking free throws in New Orleans.
2001 – Took Tyson Chandler #2. Thank god they traded this guy!
2000 – Took Darius Miles #3. He did shoot that funny commercial with Gus Van Sant.
- also took Quentin Richardson #18. I hear he’s Z-bo’s BFF now.
1999 – Took Lamar Odom #4. Hates B-Roy.
1998 – Took Michael Olowokandi #1. First overall!
—also took Brian Skinner #22. What a draft!
All I’m saying is, I wouldn’t necessarily trust the Clippers’ scouting process. F’realz.

So what you are saying is...
...if they take Westbrook, then he sucks, and we don’t want him.
If they pass on Westbrook, then no problem.
So no need to ever trade up with the Clippers to keep ‘em from getting the guy you want.
One wonders if the suckitude of Clipper picks is because Elgin Baylor is bad at scouting talent, or because Sterling makes him take players that won’t become good (and therefore expensive).

Plus, past history is relevant here
I don’t like it when people would talk about Blazer past draft blunders as if it related to the current franchise, because the management team is 100% different than the people who made the mistakes. But the CLIPPERS, ooh hoo hoo… they still got the same hapless team of Elgin Baylor and their racist owner blundering and flumberin’ around.
Thornton was great for a rookie, though, even if he’s older than Roy is right now. He’ll at least be a pretty good scorer and, right now, a really good pick at #14.
Otherwise, they don’t like to pick the right player and when they do they don’t keep ‘em. Kaman is good, but just like the Hawks if ya draft in the lottery so often you can’t help but luck into SOME good players.
The writer of this article/post likes Westbrook and makes a good argument, but I don’t know if the people actually in charge of the Clippers are likeminded at all. Perhaps Livingston is ready to come back and they don’t want a PG. Just like Minny though, whoever they take prolly won’t be any good just because they were drafted by the Clippers. For example, if KP drafted Brook Lopez, he’ll be sweet. If Mchale drafts him, he’s a top 3 bust like Adam Morrison. It’s out of the player’s hands.
Chris Wilcox was dropped and picked up by me a few times over the fantasy season… he was impossible to predict. He SHOULD be a beast, but just isn’t, except when he is. And on the Sonics, he SHOULDA’ been a guy who put up numbers on a bad team. Except, he didn’t (except when he did). He’s impossible to predict but still only in his mid-20s.
Korolev… he is out of the NBA already, right?

Yaroslav Korolev
According to Draft Express, ” Very few players at this age are able to display the kind of gifts and skills that Yaroslav Korolev enjoys. We’re talking about a point forward here, who at 6-9 has the perfect size to play the small forward position, with excellent athleticism to go with it, and the skills of a guard.”
That said, he failed to make the Clippers’ roster last season. That’s summer league roster, yo. Ouch!

And THAT is why
And THAT is why so many people don’t trust Euros.
Plus, Niko Skitishvili (sp). Yes, I know there are American busts, but not usually lottery picks that are out of the league before their rookie deals are up. That’s craziness.
Remember Fran Vasquez? Oooh that’d be annoying if I was a Magic fan. Total waste of a lottery pick (of course, unless he comes over and is good someday).
Luckily, I trust KP and his staff when it comes to the Euros and that Rudy is differentio.

Wow
That sounds an awful lot like the blurb that Danny Ainge provided for the back cover of Shawn Bradley’s biography:
The thing I’ve always loved about Shawn is that he’s not a typical “big man.” He plays with the enthusiasm, intensity, and finesse of a point guard. This book clearly shows his skills on the court; but even more it allows that reader to delve into his mind, and explore the dimensions of his personality and character that will make him one of the greatest additions to the NBA that has ever arrived on the scene.

Isn't that the same scouting report...

Or FTM, Darius Miles?
It would be nice if the scouting services were honest. We need Basketball Idol, complete with a Simon Cowell lookalike (or perhaps Simon himself!) to tell young draft prospects that the way they run a fastbreak was very cabaret.
Imagine the indignity! Having an Englishman, of all people, dissing your skillz—and being right on the money.

I love
your trade idea for Baron Davis, but I think you are wrong about Westbrook.
What in the world are we going to do with two second round picks? The team is full of young talent so unless we can land someone like Davis or Ellis in a trade I would rather consolidate and take one promising pick from the draft. If we take two guys from the second round they are going to be wasted anyway. It would make the Clippers happy and we could continue to be on good trade terms with them. They need bodies, we don’t. Granted I have no idea how god Rudy will be on defense next year, but I would be willing to bet Westbrook would be our best the best at defending smaller guards.
If we could land a certain PG from warriors I would be twice as happy, but as far as the draft goes Westbrook is obviously our best choice. How much would you give up to get Monte Ellis? He has twice as much offense, half as much defense. I’m not sure Golden State would let him go though.

not sure about B. Davis
Im hearing these ideas that the Blazers should try to acquire Baron Davis. IMO, im not so sure about that move. He has been seen as somewhat of a cocky headcase. Definitely not the type of player the Blazers need. He has a bad temper on the court and we dont need another Sheed. Although Davis played like an allstar this past season, i dont think the Blazers wanna invest over 16 mil on an injury prone pg.

My dreams always turn out so weird. It’s usually some co-mixture of school, past work experiences, the last video game I played, the Blazers and my wife. Nothing sane ever comes of them. Interesting, yes, but not sane.
Seeing Monta Ellis play, I think your statement about him being a dream come true is probably accurate. Interesting, but not sane. Whether that’s not sane in a good way or a bad way depends on your dreams, I guess.

Defensive stopper off the bench? Start Roy at the 1 and Rudy at the 2 to keep him happy, and then bring Westbrook in off the bench midway through the first quarter to get nasty.
