Anybody watching the playoffs?

I can't get enough of the NBA playoffs this year.  Chris Paul and Tony Parker whirling past defenders, Duncan doing what he does best, the Big 3 in Boston choking on their own reputations, the physical fouls that make you want to hate that player for the rest of his career, the endless scowls on David West, made up words from Reggie Miller, hoping some how the Jazz and Lakers both lose to each other, and of course tonight, Lebron's "disregard for human life" dunk on Garnett.

It just makes me more excited about the coming years when we'll get to talk about how we can slow down Paul and Parker, talking about the Big 3 match ups between the Blazers and Lakers, the dirtiness of the Jazz players, Nate's coaching adjustments, and Portland paralyzed by Blazermania.

The next 5 years can't come soon enough.

They cannot come soon enough

Ya got that right.

I saw Pierce “Bear Hug” LBJ into the Fans. No love lost there.

This is Ballin’. Gotta watch it.

That was great, but I

Didn’t appreciate him telling his mom what he did. Not very good for his image or basketball players in general, at least IMO

It's a WAR, and we're bringin' the BOOM!

Another Game Day Live Comment

What ‘bout that Maxiell block of Turkoglu goin’ to the rim. Gots all ball and both went to the floor hard. Tough Game.
I think the Mags be goin’ fishin’ tomorrow.

I also think at least three...

...Pistons will be wearin’ plastic face masks before their season is over.

I can't wait...

for the next round. No matter how you slice it, it’s going to be awesome.

Look at the possible matchups (I’m taking the liberty of eliminating Orlando).

- Boston-Detroit. Old rivalry renewed. The 2 best East teams all season long.
- Cleveland-Detroit. Can the Pistons get revenge from last year?

- SAS-LAL. Would bring back memories of the “0.4 miracle”- these teams had some great battles in Shaq’s days.
- NOH-LAL. The top 2 MVP finishers duke it out.
- NOH-Utah. CP3 and DW in the ultimate battle for 3rd year PG supremacy. Oh yeah, and a finals berth.
- SAS-Utah. This is the only one I don’t really want to see, just because we saw it last year and it was pretty boring.

SAS-Utah should be the only one you do want to see

As a red-blooded blazer fan, you have to root for LA to lose. And, if you want to somehow pull off the Paul miracle (yeah, whatever it won’t happen yada yada yada), we need NOH to lose as well. Pipe dreams!!! That said, it’d be the most boring series.

i'm a bit disappointed...

too many blowouts, i feel like 3 out of 4 games aren’t worth watching after the 3rd quarter. I think only game 3 from the SAS-NOH series was competitive and SAS won by 11, Howard came back to earth vs. Detroit. I’m only following BOS-CLE, the low scoring games are pretty brutal to watch too, but at least they are real playoff games, I’m mostly interested to see if BOS can pull it together to beat LBJ.

Yeah...

That’s why I called it the second most exciting “sans Portland” playoffs above. This year is the Rasheed Wallace of playoffs. It’s done pretty good, but it still feels like we got cheated because the potential was absolutely through the roof.

Second most exciting "sans Portland" NBA playoffs ever

after 2006.

The NBA as a whole has really gotten a lot better over the past few years.

by Gargen on May 13, 2008 12:36 AM PDT   0 recs

exactly.

you guys really are watching the playoffs, cause i’m thinking the same…best playoffs since…2001 or whenever it was that we chokeddddddd….the level of basketball being played right now is amazing,,,we’ll be playing some tough series with all those teams in the west for years…the lakers look like the best team right now,,,which makes this year crucial,,,go utah

it feels funny

I havent’ had this much fun watching non Blazer playoff games, probably ever. Wierd things are happening to me too. I actually was rooting for Shaq, and found myself (this will probably get me banned) rooting for the Lakers the other day. I know, crazy! I feel so dirty, I just want to take a shower and wash it all off!

The West is great, the East is boring

Out of the Pistons, the Magic, the Celts, and the Cavs the only team that interests me at all is the Celts. And they are clearly not as good as first advertised. It’s amazing that a team with one of the most exciting players in the game (The Cavs) can be so incredibly dull to watch.

by leeroyjenkins on May 13, 2008 9:18 AM PDT   0 recs

It's astounding

how bad Mike Brown is on the offensive end. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results (thank you, Ben Franklin) then his offensive “strategy” in Games 1 and 2 qualifies him as a certifiable loon. I wanted to bang my head against the computer after the 10th straight on-the-ball screen for LBJ on ten possessions. The big man hedged hard and doubled every time, and the Cavs were unable to swing the ball to the weak side faster than the Celtics could rotate. Ugh. At this point, I’m praying for LeBron to go somewhere else—that or they fire Brown and bring in somebody who has more than two offensive play calls.

agree on Brown's offense...

... but you have to admit they are an outstanding defensive team. Credit where credit is due.

Absolutely they are!

I just can’t get worked up about this entire series being filled with games like 83-76, you know? I also think that Brown’s offensive liabilities are pronounced enough that unless he hires the offensive equivalent of that Tom guy with the tricky last name in Boston, the Cavs will never win a championship, no matter how good of a defensive team they are.

by BlazersOrBust on May 13, 2008 10:50 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Good!!!!! We don't want them to win do we?

I agree about Mike Brown's offense

I don’t understand it at all. Some teams you can sort of see what the goal is. San Antonio for one. Cleveland though, what is that?

It’s a testiment to Lebron’s skill that they can hang around with the good teams running that fiasco of an offense.

I was talking with my brother

about what we’re gonna do if the NBA’s wet dream comes true and we have a L*kers-Celtics final. The LA-induced nausea needs no explanation, natch. Meanwhile, I loathe the Celtics for three reasons: 1) The majority of Boston fans are smug, ill-informed frontrunners. I couldn’t understand all the flack Bibby caught for his Round 1 comments—I spend most of my time living in Boston, and it seemed to me like he hit the nail on the head; 2) KG is a trash-talking chump, a monster for 46 minutes and a wilting begonia in the final two. I wouldn’t hold this against him except that I thought he was a jerk against the Blazers this year; 3) James Posey is a cheap-shot artist on the level of Bruce Bowen. Anything to keep him from winning another title.

So, in lieu of supporting either team, we’ve decided to throw our forces behind an implosion of the universe of itself. This may mean the end of all existence everywhere, but we feel as though that’s a relatively fair price.

On the other hand, NO vs. SA to me is one of the most fascinating series

I’ve watched in a long time.

I also like the Lakers vs. Utah even though Utah is a little dull.

by leeroyjenkins on May 13, 2008 11:41 AM PDT   0 recs

Ditto

It is a lot more fun watching dynamic guards play, compared to lumbering big men.

Yeppers

I think whoever knocks out SA is my favorite to win it all. Why can’t anyone but Detroit win on the road?

I thought "The Cadavers"

would do it tonight. Good most o’ the first half.

Lookin’ like “The Walkin’ Dead” in the last half o’ the Game.

I don't find Utah dull at all

They score a lot of points and have some really explosive players (DWill, AK47, Brewer and even Ronnie Price).

I'm just happy

That teams I hate are still in it. I like rooting against them. I want both, Bill Simmons and Jack Nicholson, to be disappointed at the end of the playoffs.
