SPAM - Spending Paul Allen's money

I don't know if this is diary worthy but it shocked me when I looked this stuff up (I know, not enough to do).  There are lots of good articles lately about wages of wins and wins per dollar spent (one from Ian Thomsen at SI) and it got me to thinking about how the PTB spent money in past years, specifically on Dr. Darius.  Now that it looks like Mr. Miles is done in a Blazer uniform, what did Mr. Allen get for his money?

Star-divide

Darius signed his 6 year $48 million contract on 9-1-04.  He played in 103 games after that for a total of 2985 minutes and we won 34 of the games he played.

That breaks down to $466K per game played, $16K per minute, and a whopping $1.4 million per win.  Obviously he isn't solely responsible for wins and losses, but he was supposed to be one of our "cornerstones" at the time.  At the end of the day it's pretty sad for both the player and the team.  I love our owner but he's had some rotten luck or bad advice... probably a fair amount of both.

Can you think of another player who delivered less for the money?

Add Luxury Tax, subtract Insurance Money...
........................................................ and don't blame Dr. Darius for blowing a knee or the rest of the Blazers for sucking mightily.

Sorry, should have been clearer.
I think it's sad Darius blew his knee and I don't blame him at all - just a really bad break.  It's no different than Grant Hill while he was in Orlando, sad for the player's career and big bucks paid by the team for very little return.

It sucks PA didn't get much for that contract but you make a great point, thank heavens for that insurance policy.

Love him or hate him, a healthy Darius arguably produced more on the court than any SF we've got now.  We do back flips when Martell, JJones, or TO hit for 20 or more and a handful of rebounds but Darius did that fairly regularly.  Can you imagine any of our current guys going for 47pts/12rebs/5blks/4stls?!

On balance I'm happy with our guys and they're only going to get better but you've got to admit, a healthy and motivated DMiles was a freak of nature.

no
Atleast Ben Wallace won a ring.

Ben Wallace won a ring with Detroit. The over-paid
status is for the contract he signed with Chicago. Ben Wallace is effectively being paid by Chicago and now Cleveland for the work he did with Detroit.

Dumars is a smart man.

Five Words:
Shawn (sniff, sniff, WAAAH?) Kemp.  At least for the Blazers portion of his contract.

oh my
you are correct. That guy sucked money out of the Blazers or like 6 years now

Almost listed Kemp as an example
I thought about listing Kemp for being overpaid and Rider for doing the least with his talent, both situations have a certain level of suckitude.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
