LMAMIP?

There has been a little bit of talk about LaMarcus being the Most Improved Player this year, and now the Blazers are pushing for the award. If he wins it, this will be the second time the Blazers have endorsed a player for an award and the player wins. Do you think things like this really affect voters?

LaMarcus

I like the one where they interview players
Travis is fun to listen to as always, and KP has an interesting sweater.

pretty cool comic and videos
I think LMA merits consideration, and I have no problem with promoting him, but I'd vote for Turkoglu if I had a vote.

I don't mind
teams promoting their players for individual awards. There's zero downside to it and it probably helps engender player loyalty. And certain awards, maybe not MIP but certainly All-Star/All-NBA/MVP recognition help players get more leeway from refs on defense and greater benefit of the doubt for 50-50 calls on offense.

I agree with jksnake -- LMA's jump in statistics is almost directly tied to his increase in playing time, and it's normal to see talented second-year players making that big leap when given the opportunity. Turkoglu had been in the league for seven years as a serviceable third option and blew up this season, which is a lot harder to find, plus he's playing an important role on a 50-win team which gets points in my book.

Turkoglu
I thought he didn't want the award.  He sees it as an insult because he thinks he is finally getting an opportunity to show his talents more than improving his skill.

I think the award should go to a player who has shown a jump in numbers because of a comittment to improve their skills.  LMA fits this description.  He has looked better each month of the season, even with his dips in shooting from time to time.

Rudy Gay and Hedo Whatever
Deserve serius consideration too.  I don't think I mentioned them in my diary about Dunleavy and his outrageous claim to the award.

I thought the Jail Blazers were back
I thought your post was possibly referring to the fact that our own LMA got an MIP, a minor in possession.  I'm not sure if LMA is still under 21 but I had a disgusting flashback to our days of old.  It sure is nice to have a team we can rely on.

LOL
Ha ha! I was about to post an identical comment. Seriously. I had it all written out and then I saw your post. MIP is an infraction, not a criminal offense. Still, it would be a bummer if one of our boys got popped for that. I wonder if KP would ship him out. How much does "character" matter when the rubber hits the road?

Just one question
from the diary.

What's a qutoes?

I'm frequently right, but always certain

by jscot on Apr 9, 2008 12:05 AM PDT reply actions

We should save it for next year
With Greg in the mix LaMonster could spring his scoring up another 7 points next year. I expect his rebounding to improve as well.

But Aldridge makes a much bigger leap next year in my opinion. Don't forget all of the stories we heard about his work ethic. He knows what could be in store for him next year playing with Greg and maybe an even better PG. No one will be able to double team him or Greg without paying up.

As much as this season has been a pleasant surprise I'm really looking forward to next season.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
