What were we doing last year at this time?
'07 Lottery Commemorative Thread
At that time, I merely lurked in the shadows, secretly reading what transpired here. Posting hadn't really yet crossed my mind, but I enjoyed what I read. It was a community which I liked to watch.
But it is the thoughts that are contained in this Commemorative Thread which are the most interesting. Some of the things I remember, like the excitement, Damir's swearing, the majority of people thinking Oden was a lock for our pick (Ben wasn't one, but we love him anyways), and those kind of things.
However, there are other tidbits in there which are quite surprising. A lot of people were convinced that Rashard Lewis was the guy to pick up for our SF. There was nary a thought of not having Jack as our primary PG. The idea, brought up by a Kings fan, that we should trade Zack for cap-flexibility went completely unnoticed. The team which we envisioned the day after winning the 2007 Draft Lottery was not at all the team we ended up with.
Take the time and read through the Commemorative Thread, and see what stands out for you. It can be good, bad, interesting, whatever. How is this year going to be similar? How is it going to be different? I think this is going to be more interesting than another trade diary Fanpost.

For the lottery
I raced home from work to my friends house (76ers fan) to see the lottery. I started screaming when Portland’s logo didn’t show then when the sonics logo came up at 2 I went nuts running around his house shouting.

Things that stood out for me were
Dave’s comments on Joel and the idea that Aldridge would be out future center. Oh, and of course, the wave of comments after the announcement. Man, what a wonderfully crazy day that was. Now if only we can repeat this year.

That was great!

Yes I was at Venue for the draft party.
One of the most thrilling things that I have ever done.
When I got home after the draft, my wife was amazed. She commented that I had the same look on my face when my first child was born.

I think I still lurked back then too
Good times. Good times. I like the Blazers. I made a drinking game for the draft. I’ll put it up in one fanpost later this summer.

Hey, have you noticed?
Separately, Oden AND Sergio are starting their off-season with a Hawai’i visit (Oden with trainer Jay Jensen).
I can’t wait ‘til he gets to Kahuku.
Everyone’s gonna mistake him for a really tall Samoan.

I didn't know about Oden
I’ve been away from the internet the last few days. I read that Sergio was here and just made a joke in Dave’s post about him. I wonder if they’ll meet da kine from ESPN, he’s at BYU Hawaii.

Here ya go.
From Mike Barrett:
As for the Blazers’ other can’t-miss addition next year, Greg Oden, he is currently in Hawaii. This trip is pretty much business, but I’m sure he’ll get a little time to check out the sites. Oden is over there with Portland athletic trainer Jay Jensen. They’re going to bike the islands, and plan to work out pretty much every day, as Greg’s rehab continues. Blazers coach Nate McMillan has also now flown over to Hawaii to be a part of things, and oversee the training.

One thing's for sure:
We won’t be adding 4 drafted players (one at #13) PLUS Rudy,
and still keep all dozen players on the active roster, with rights to Freeland and The Petter.
This year’s lottery watch will be all about the trade watch.
Players or picks, SOMETHING is getting traded, and probably on draft day.
But my guess is, come the next morn, we’ll all be buzzing about nothing involving a drafted player.
Unless, of course, we DO massively move up.
But we will not be picking at #13. BOOK IT!

Yeah
Once Hansbrough decided to stay in school KP sent me a text that just said, “Dang, looks like I’m trading the pick. I’ll get him next year!”

S'possible.
JJ and a second rounder to Phoenix, the #13 pick and another second-rounder (or two, if necessary) to Dallas.
In return, both their 2009 first-rounders, not lottery/top-three-top-ANYTHING protected.
Odds are, one (or both) of those teams (maybe the Spoors) will get real old, real fast, and have a very high pick next year.
Stuff like that.

I wouldn't book that
If we trade 3 players and a 2nd rounder for a PG, we might indeed pick at #13 to fill one of the holes the trade created.
If we trade (I assume we will), who/what we trade will in part be dictated by what the other team wants. That may or may not include #13.

Oh man, awesome. Goose bumps.
I remember that day… I still worked 3rd shift and I stayed up to watch, I remember screaming at the T.V. trying to call the picks. I got Atlanta, Seattle and Portland right.
I remember the Boston fan standing there with his mouth open, shocked. Hilarious. But that’s what you get when you tank like crazy just to move up.
What an amazing day. It was ridiculously fun.
We will never see another player quite like John Stockton. Never.

I think your poll is rigged.
But I really enjoyed the thread and realized it’s been there in the right hand column all along. Thanks for directing my attention to it.

Not really
Scots were proud long before I came along.
And besides, you can’t make a Scot anything. He is what he is, and if you try to make him anything at all, he’ll call out the Clan.

I have thought of actually adding the poll question at this point.
But it seems awfully mean to do. Imagine, if you would, these questions appearing above:
“Should we hold someone responsible for everything that is wrong in the world?”
“Should someone be caned for the L*kers winning as much as they have?”
“Should someone be given a date with every supermodel in the world for being a great fan?”
The possibilities are endless. Well, at least for TominHawaii.

That was great
I saw fatty’s posts, I had forgotten how he had been saying it as a fact that the Blazers were getting Oden or Durant for weeks, LOL.
One of his comments was like ooooden oden oden oh my god!
Oh, the days of innocence, before “goof” had even been invented!
By the way, if anyone else noticed this, when you go on that old thread you can click on fatty’s name, and it shows that he joined Blazersedge… So there is evidence of fatty lurking.
fatty, I hope you come back, you HAVE to come back for the draft lottery, and predict Derek Rose!
