Who will you root for in the playoffs?

Just out of curiosity I wanted to run a poll to see what other teams people will root for now that the blazers season is over. Personaly I don't like rooting for teams other than the Blazers and probibly won't watch much of the playoffs but if I had to choose I probably would root for Boston Since they have a great story right now and I'd like to see KG & Ray Ray get rings.

I chose New Orleans

But I really wanted a choice called “anyone but the Lakers.”

My thoughts exactly

Definitely want a West team and I like New Orleans the most out of everyone. But since I don’t really care about them.. whoever is playing the Lakers and any underdog in general

Pistons

Just as I started rooting for the Rockets when Clyde got traded there (and before big mouth Barkley), I root for the Pistons since Rasheed got there…

by Blenzer on Apr 17, 2008 4:25 PM PDT reply actions

First Denver

then probably Utah and then probably Phoenix/SAS because they will be the L*kers opponents.

If I got to pick who I wanted to win it would be Houston or SAS.

There are jerks on every one of those teams

And some of the coaches are jerks too. I’ve never liked Byron Scott. But oifg

Cleveland!

Why the heck not?

I was going to pick New Orleans, but then I realized they have Bonzi. Ugh.

Trade Freeland!

by rockingharder on Apr 17, 2008 6:43 PM PDT reply actions

Oh snap they DO have Bonzi

Why did they have to sign that lamewad? Now I don’t know who I’m gonna root for. I hate to say it, but maybe the L*kers are the most likable of all the teams. Turiaf is way cool. And Farmar. Odom makes me sick though.

Nature bats last.

Absolutely, without a doubt...

The Atlanta Hawks. If they get to play in the playoffs with their record, and we don’t with ours, they had better make the best of it. That, and I’m always a sucker for the underdog.

Once they beat the unbeatable Boston Celtics, who will stop them from there?

"A certain critic—for such men, I regret to say, do exist—made the nasty remark about my last novel that it contained ‘all the old Wodehouse characters under different names’. He has probably now been eaten by bears, like the children who made mock of the prophet Elisha: but if he still survives he will not be able to make a similar charge against Summer Lightning. With my superior intelligence, I have outgeneralled this man by putting in all the old Wodehouse characters under the same names. Pretty silly it will make him feel, I rather fancy." - P.G. Any team playing

I’m rooting for any team playing New Orleans. I know it’s a long shot, but Paul will be much more likely to leave NO if they get hammered in the playoffs and he doesn’t think he’ll get a championship with them. And assuming we’ve still got the money, we’d be a possible destination.

by Gelvalst on Apr 17, 2008 7:59 PM PDT reply actions

Let me tell you how it is

Philly!
Their coach used to be our coach. Remember? Everyone hates Miles because they love that coach so much. Sheesh.

Beyond Philly, I have to root for Boston and Dallas so that my TiH stats to work.

Ask not what Blazers Edge can do for you; ask what you can do for Blazers Edge.

tough call

I can’t root for Boston. I don’t know how Garnett is off the court, but he’s a prick on the floor. I also feel like it’s unfair for that franchise to flip from total incompetence to championship this quickly (insert obvious parallels to Blazer trajectory here).

Hornets? Bonzi is a good reason to root against. Plus factor in that they’d have about 12 real fans if it weren’t for their recent success, making that entire stadium full of people jumping on the bandwagon. I kinda do want to root for em tho.

Dallas? Well, I have a hard time rooting for a Texas team, although I am partial to the outspoken owner. Dirk has gone thru some crap too, so it’d be nice for him. Not stoked about handing a trophy to Kidd, a wife beater, after he may or may not have quit out on a team that gave him a huge contract.

Spurs? No.

Lkers? Yes, Turiaf is a good story, but NO.

Detriot? Maybe if they meet the Lkers in the finals, that would be a sweet way to sting a lot of L*ker fans again.

Flat out no to the rest of the east. They don’t deserve it… especially Cleveland with their crap record this year and their abysmal finals performance last year.

Thuggets. No way that will happen, but I kinda like AI but hate Melo way more. He’s such a damn punk.

Houston? Perhaps the team in the west I have the least opinion about, but screw a Texas team.

Jazz… don’t care much for the mormons.

I guess I’m pulling for Phoenix. Shaq has a bunch of rings, what’s one more. I think him getting another before Kobe does would be a sweet slap in the face. I used to dislike Shaq, but anymore that guy just makes me laugh.

by shralpster on Apr 17, 2008 10:32 PM PDT reply actions

Can we stop calling Kidd a wife beater?

There is a difference between hitting your spouse in an argument and being a wife beater. I am not making light of the topic and no man or woman should hit their spouse. Just that one incident does not make him a wife beater. From some of the things I have read, she has also abused him. Not that it makes it right, just pointing out that they have a tumultuous relationship and she might be a little crazy.

Ask not what Blazers Edge can do for you; ask what you can do for Blazers Edge.

Well Tom, from everything I've read Jason Kidd is a

serial abuser and a serial philanderer. Being abused and cheated on continually might make anyone a little crazy. I know he’s not the only creep in professional sports but he is definately a creep. It doesn’t make him a bad basketball player but I wouldn’t want him on my team.

by annthefan on Apr 18, 2008 5:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah

I don’t want to stick up for him just the calling him a wife beater and K*be a rapist is getting old. It has everything to do with their character and why I wouldn’t want them on the team, and nothing to do with basketball and how it pertains to the Blazers.

Magic

Since the two teams I care about didn’t make the playoffs, I just went with likability and picked the Magic. I liked Rashard when he was a Sonic, and I’m more impressed with Dwight Howard’s good-guy personality every time I see him.

My runner-up was the Cavs since my mom lives in Cleveland and her husband is a huge Cavs fan, but honestly I haven’t forgiven Lebron yet for that game back in February. Even if I had forgiven Lebron I would probably still find some arbitrary reason not to back the Cavs.

Plus, even though some teams are bigger rivals than others, after playing every team in the Western Conference 4 times during the season (and it kinda feels like 8 since I follow two Western Conference teams), I start viewing every Western Conference team as a rival and every Eastern Conference team as an interesting sideshow. By the time the playoffs come around, there’s really no way I can root for another Western Conference team.

Rockets

So fatty can come back and be his unbearable bombastic self in gloating about them.

When I rule the world, every fan post will be an encomium to the Blazers.

None

The season is over for me. It’s the same thing when the Mariners don’t make the playoffs, I just turn off the TV and wait for next year.

by coolguyrob on Apr 18, 2008 2:02 AM PDT reply actions

The Rockets have always...

been my second team and since I live so close to Houston they should be my choice now; however…

I’m still enamored with the Spurs. The general consensus seems to be boring, arrogant, dirty playing whiners, etc., etc., etc…

I think they are still the class of the league and a good model of how to build and keep a championship caliber team.

How come the Sluggets get to be listed twice in your poll? Talk about unfair advantage.

by annthefan on Apr 18, 2008 5:27 AM PDT reply actions

It isn't helping them

When I rule the world, Isiah Thomas will be coach and GM of the L*kers, who will be owned by someone who no one respects whose first initial is "J".

i voted for the suns

mostly because i bet two different people at work $20 that they would win the championship after they got Shaq. I still think they definitely can. Shaq, when motivated, is always practically unstoppable.

L*kers, because

we’ll get much more attention when we beat them in the future, even though the refs will be against us— there are plenty of fans all over who will join in “Beat LA!”.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside.
