KP interview during the last game

I was watching the game last night and was absolutely amazed with KP.  The Mike's do a great job with the play-by-play, but KP definitely took the cake during the 2nd quarter broadcast.  Despite skirting all of the questions, which I can't fault KP for doing...I certainly wouldn't have made that info public, KP showed how much he knows about each player in the league.  He was constantly chiming in with tidbits of how __________ player rebounds well but really doesn't have a long range shot.

Maybe I'm making more out of this than I should, but KP seems to know personnel from every team and can evaluate each player in terms of strengths and weaknesses, often off the top of his head.  I found that segment immensely entertaining and just reconfirmed my belief that we have the best GM in the NBA.  I'm extremely excited for the offseason, but we have one game before our winning season is complete!

I really enjoyed hearing him, too

I kept rewinding my DVR to listen again. I vote that he does that more often, say once every 20 games.

Make it every 10 games and you have a deal. It was great.

We will never see another player quite like John Stockton. Never.

That was great.

K.P. seems like he’d be a cool guy to hang out with too. He seems genuine.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

He's not afraid of the public either.

I loved how he played up the Oden Durant decision this last off-season with the web video and all.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

If he ever loses his job as GM

I’m sure he can get a job doing play by play or color. He did some of that during the interview, he just switched course and started doing play by play when it was warrented.

Transcript, anyone?

If anyone were inspired to transcribe the KP interview, that would be very cool. While KP didn’t give away any state secrets, I thought he was surpisingly candid at times. For instance, at one point he said something to the effect of, “If you took the best traits of Sergio, Jarrett, and Steve, you’d have an all-star caliber point guard like Chris Paul.”

He's great

Not many NBA GM’s kick it with the broadcasting crew during games. Not many then go up and kick it with the radio crew. Our GM is special.

KP has high BB-IQ

Did anyone see that link on Truehoop a cdouple days ago of Announcers around the league rated on basketball IQ (BB-IQ) and homerism. Mike Barrett was near the worst in the league with Low IQ and great Homerism.

I bring this up, because KP really showed what a high BB-IQ (in your announcer) can bring to gamecast . Also of note, Steve “Snapper” Jones was on the other end of the spectrum (man, am I sorry we let him go).

KP was on radio too

I got out of a meeting in time for most of the 3rd quarter on the radio and KP was on with Wheels & Tone. I was impressed with him there, tho he wasn’t doing much commenting on the game and definitely not on other players. But yes, he’d HAVE to be knowledgeable about everyone in the NBA since his phone is going to be ringing and he’ll have to know what is being offered.

I was most interested in his answer to the “what are you doing next?” question – which was “Off to see Rudy.” It sounded like he was going to convince him to come over. He was pretty vague about everything else.

Well, they did ask if he was going to send Brandon to the lottery again and he said he wasn’t going to change a thing – “same suit, same underwear…” Then if we didn’t get number one it would be Brandon’s fault… Since it was so lighthearted I wasn’t sure if Brandon is going this year or not. I think Greg would be a good choice…

During the questions on Darius

Did you hear KP say they would have to cut off his leg an put in a artifical knee?

Taken way outta context here.

I heard the comment

but I don’t remember who said it – but logically it was KP. I was sort of surprised because I have friends who have had knee replacement surgery and I’m quite sure it was done without cutting off their legs. (I had lunch with one today, I would have asked if I had seen your comment earlier.)

KP probably motivates the guy at the Taco Bell

drive through with the passion in which he orders his caramel empanada.

When the guy talks suddenly my posture improves and I feel good about myself.

Who else could see KP being a motivational speaker someday?

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
