Gameday Open Thread: Mavericks vs. Blazers

Here we go...Game 80 of 82.  The next to the next to the last chance to yell "FIRST!"  (Although I think there should be some penalty for being first in a Gameday thread of a game we bomb.  Maybe it was YOUR fault!)

After you're done with the usual friendly banter, be sure and register all of your game-related thoughts too.

Don't forget Mavs Moneyball for all of your Maverick news, notes, and correctly casual assumptions of victory.

Um. Dave?
You were first in the Sac game. Just sayin.

by annthefan on Apr 12, 2008 3:39 AM PDT   0 recs

Um. Ann.
He knew that.  That's exactly why he said what he said.

What you don't know is that he was just dying to have someone say what you said.  And he'll come on and claim that his "first" doesn't count because the ruler of the world disqualified it, so you can't blame HIM for Sacramento.  And THEN, if the worst happens tonight, he'll blame YOU, and YOU fell for it by trying to blame him.  Now, you're trapped.

I've been training him on my off weekends so that he knows how to do this kind of stuff.

We're forming a meld of Spanish proverbs, dry (twisted?) British humour, astute basketball insight, shrewd perspective on humanity, expertise on American Idol, and unfettered ego.

The world isn't ready for what we're creating here.  The world doesn't even deserve the glories of what we're creating here -- yet.  I'll sort the place out soon enough, though.

OOOOONNOOOOOOOO!
My only excuse is that I was at the end of an 18 or 20 hour day, endured so that I'd be able to see last nights game. I'm doing the same today. I'll try to stay alert. Wait! The voices are telling me the kids will win tonight. All is not lost! Go Blazers!

The Kings are jerks
I hope the Mavs are nicer.  We could still be friends, no need to fight.  They just gotta let us win on the home court because getting to 40 wins is what I'll be happy with.  If we get it against Memphis, fine, but if we get it against Dallas we can try for that blessed 41st win against the Drizzlies.  It just plain works better and even the most hardcore Mavs fan (is there such a thing, aside from Cuban?) will agree.

Jason Kidd is a hall of famer but way overrated.  I still don't like this trade for the Mavs at all, because getting an elite PG was not their problem and they traded away any hope they have of slowing the Amares, Duncans, Boozers, Wests, and Shaqs of the world.  If they're pinning their hopes on Dampier having more than 2 good games in a series, they pretty much deserve to lose.

Brandon Bass is a nice bench player.  I have been a big fan of Josh Howard for a long time, but the few games I've watched since Kidd joined the team haven't made Howard look a good as he was before.  Jason Terry isn't my type of guard, but he is good for the Mavs.  I really liked Devin Harris, and I think he would still be a much better fit than Kidd.  Better defender at this point in their respective careers (especially against quickies like Tony Parker or Barbarososa), better shooter, doesn't need to dominate the ball-- Harris is a lot better.  PLUS, they had to trade Diop, another key player once the playoffs roll around.  Harris + Diop is mucho grande better than Kidd, ESPECIALLY in the traditionally post oriented playoffs.

I just don't get it.

Obviously Dallas is still a good team and we shouldn't beat them since they aren't the Lakers and we don't really care about the Mavs.  They just aren't as good as they were before, and will have a shorter shelf life after the blockbuster deal.

We gotta pray (PRAY!), we got to pray (PRAY!), we got to pray just to beat the Mavs today.  Let us bow our heads and hope that our Kids still have upset tummies over last night's poop milkshake of a game and come out trying to put on a show for the home crowd-- and we can hope that the Mavs have a emotional let down since they clinched their spot in the playoffs.  It could happen!

I wish Martell was back, we need him.

I'm in the Championship in my fantasy league (first time I've ever done fantasy, too!) and I need Brandon Roy and LMA to play big, with lots of steals and blocks and good percentages across the board.  Surely everyone else will agree.

To all interested (roughly 100% of you), here is the roster of a fantasy champion:

Brandon Roy
LaMarcus Aldridge
Deron Williams
Manu Ginobili
Rudy Gay
Randy Foye
Ronnie Brewer
Troy Murphy
Jermaine O'Neal
Marvin Williams
Josh Childress
Charlie Villanueva
Raja Bell
DROPPED BECAUSE OF INJURIES: Yao Ming, Chris Kaman, Martell Webster.

The injury bug hit me but I'm finishing strong.  Go team BINGO BANGO BONGO, greatest fantasy team ever!

And GO PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS!

Love,
Mortimer

I am a first year player as well
and like you, I'm in the final. My roster:

Randy Foye (picked him up when he returned)
Mike Dunleavy
Jason Kidd
Luol Deng
Travis Outlaw
Adrei Kirilenko
Shaq
LaMarcus Aldrdige
Brendan Haywood
Steve Blake
Chris Bosh
Leandro Barbosa
Nate Robinson

I made over ten signings/droppings because I had a terrible draft (got 4 pointguards that are scrubs) but I've had this roster for a while. I'm playing the team I made a big trade with and I'm up 5-4.

The trade: My incoming players- Jason Kidd, Andre Kirilenko
His incoming-Kobe Bryant, Rudy Gay

I Love MC Hammer
I used to get that song confused with Big Pimpin' and I would say, "You got to pimp, just to make it today."  Man, it would drive my wife nuts, she loves Zay-Z.  We even have a poster of him in our living room that says, "I got my MBA from Marcy Projects." - Shawn Carter
Then in big letters it says, "i am what i am."

Apparently he's Popeye.  Wait, what were we talking about again?  Oh yeah, Big Pimpin' mashes up with Pray.

All 3 of my teams are in the finals right now.
this is probably a good spot to congratulate JKsnake on winning the Bedge fantasy league.  It is him and I in the championship game right now. The problem is his team resemble the boston celtics while mine resembles the miami heat.  I am getting pounded!  I will probably win my other two leagues(one is ratb's league if I am not mistaken).  Fantasy basketball is fun...

First!
No one has said it yet.

I'm not making any predictions tonight, all though I did say LMA and Channing would have good games again and Roy would struggle, but I also said we would win by 14. Anyway, Beat D.A.!

aww, the few, the proud, the hopeful
I would like to see well over 85 points tonight.  Because scoring right about 85 is just not fun to watch.

I think that Travis will score 25 tonight.  Go Travis.  And I'd like to see the third consecutive double double for Channing.  I've spent the whole season watching for a Channing d-d (he kept coming really close), so I'm happy for him.

I just found this via Mavs Money Ball. It is Hardwood Paroxysm's blog awards. Blazersedge is nominated for a few, and there are others that you can write in for. I think this blog could bring in quite a few awards if you all vote. http://hardwoodparoxysm.blogspot.com/2008/04/nba-blogger-season-awards-2008.html
