Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Has anyone seen this travesty?

It's footage of the most hated NBA player of all time (mine anyway, except for Darryl Dawkins, but that's another story) justifying our collective loathing. I wonder how many stupid kids will try to be like Kobaby?

Is it wrong
for me to want to see him try that with a Chevy Suburban?

man, i don't care what you guys say
that was pretty freaking awesome, YOU KNOW IT WAS! So much hate. If you saw Travis do the same thing you guys would all have that on your myspace pages...

Really...
...what was awesome about it? His making sure he shows the Nikes he's putting on?

The car does the moving, all he is demonstrating is #1-stupidity, and #2 the ability to jump straight up.

Kobe does plenty of awesome demonstrating within a game. Jumping over a speeding car heading towards you---by choice, is not awesome, just stupid.

How can you not think that was cool?

Ugh...
...real or faked, warning to not try it at home or not, it's still stupid.

Kobe should realize regardless of what he says it' going to to still entice kids (people) to emulate the stunt.

   Stupid.

Put's Oden slight transgression of playing in a pick-up game in a different perspective.

Can you imagine The L*kers if Kobe somehow gets clipped and injures himself? That could be life threatening at worst, and Championship costing at the least.

    Stupid.

I still remember when Kobe first came into the league pre-Colorado scandal. He was the league and media darling.

It's been interesting to watch the evolution of the reality of Kobe. Great, great talent, but horrible ego and terrible personal decisions made in his life.

I liked it
and I won't feel sorry if anyone try to do it at home. Kids don't drive cars, and people older than 14/15 that choose to do it are wasting our oxygen.

Saw it earlier
Indeed...if Travis did that, we would all be stoked for sure.

For the record, when Vladamir went snowboarding I think the L*kers almost suspended him...lol so if that tells you anything about this jump...........

viral marketing
we in the blogosphere shouldn't be too gullible for this stuff.  It's fake.  It's a Nike viral marketing campaign.  Big deal.

If it is real
He is an idiot.  Impressive yes, but still very, very stupid.  I have to believe that even K*be isnt stupid enough to risk his career to impress ronny turiaf.  It must be fake...

It's not real
Just watched it again... Pause the video at 35 seconds and you'll see the car is behind him. He could have done it, but he was smart enough to not jump directly over it.

Gotta say, I watched, I paused,
I looked at point on ground where the "great one" (great what? indeed) was standing and where cars tires touched, and it looked pretty real to me.  The big problem to me is how many immitators of this will get hurt because of it, and is BozoBoy too dumb, (or just doesn't care) to figure that out ?  KB "roll model" in action.

of course, lookin' real and
bein real are two different things.  Is this for (and by) Nike ?  Would they condone this model behavior ?  Even worse, if so.

Uhhh
Do some of us really think that was real?  You gotta be kidding me and I hope you are.  It is very obviously special effected.  My grandma could tell it wasn't real-- and she was [learning disabled]!

A robot computer camera thing shot Flobe in front of a green screen, made him appear to jump higher (the peak of his jump has a tweak that is obviously messed with computerally), shot the car passing by and mixed it into the shot, blah blah blah I can't believe anyone believes this is real.  It doesn't even LOOK real.

When Brad Pitt got hit by a car in Meet Joe Black, did you run out of the theater and call all of your friends that you just saw Brad Pitt get hit by a car and die?  When you watch Vincent D'onofrio on Law and Order, do you stare with amazement at how well his faced healed from his suicide attempt in Full Metal Jacket?

Kobe and the car have probably never even met.  This is obviously fake.  As a commercial it is fine, but I am just shocked that so many are pausing to consider its realosity, or even still think it is real-- or think there is maybe some visual trickery afoot but someone SOMEONE jumped over a car.  No one jumped over a car.

Especially not post knee surgery pre playoffs banged up keystone of a franchise and shoe company spokesman, Kobe Bryant.

I mean, really?  Man...

And it'd be cool if it was Roy or Oden because it'd be a Blazer in a popular ad, but I'd still expect no one to believe it was "real".  Good gravy...

It was an April fools thing... Kobe even admitted in an interview that it was fake... not that I don't think he could do it.  If people are dumb enough to try this then they get what they deserve, that's why we have the Darwin awards.

Of course it's fake!!! How is that not obvious?! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here!

by BlazerD on Apr 12, 2008 2:14 PM PDT reply actions

Of course it was trickery. And easily faked.
It's a variation of the old leaning tower of Piza trick. Only in this case the Faker and the car were probably never in the same frame together at the same time. Just another instance of COBAYA skullduggery.

It's Real
As soon as I saw the video, I ran out and jumped over a bus.  I think this video means that Kobe is the One and he can see things in the Matrix that we cannot.

Can you use a gunner's mate?
I'll even bring my own guns.

Of course there has to be a clause that shooting zombies takes priority over privateering.

PS - Congress still has the power to grant letters of marque (sp?), so this is legally a viable proposition.  (Not sure what the law says about zombie shooting though.  Can you be charged for killing something that's technically dead already?)

by timg56 on Apr 14, 2008 6:19 PM PDT up reply actions

You bet your sweet bippy you can
There's not a day goes by that I don't wish about 10 million people here in LA would suddenly become zombies and we could legally obtain of letter of marque and take care of the problem-- for our country, and our family's honour of course.

Bring your guns, after we take care of the zombies we'll set sail upon the seven seas, in search of adventure and romance!

Perhaps one of the zombies will have a treasure map tattooed on the back of their heads, and we'll discover it after saving a sassy black woman from a zombie attack.  The map will be written in ancient sanskrit, and we won't be able to read it ourselves, but luck would have it our sassy black woman sidekick is fluent in sanskrit!  Together, we'll pursue riches beyond our wildest dreams and rid Southern California of the horrid zombie problem.

We could also adopt an orphan for this adventure, and he/she could be sassy as well.

Let's set sail... for ADVENTURE!

Real or Fake?
Does it really matter? Either way it's a stupid image to put forth.

If it's all advertising, then it was a stupid promotion.

Why not fake him getting clipped, hitting the ground and writhing in pain? That would get even more publicity and then you wouldn't get people thinking it looks "cool".

   I don't care if it's fake-IT IS STUPID.

very strange
to me that anyone remotely thinks this is real. in "crouching tiger", "the matrix" and a million other films there's a pretty well-established tradition of stuntmen flying through the air on wires.

and none of the "talent" ever does anything where they might even bump their pinky. this isn't exactly breaking news.

tragedy
I heard once of a group of teenagers who tried that stunt a few years ago.  A couple of them were in a speeding car, and their buddy attempted to jump it as it was oming towards him.  He mistimed the jump, went to the hospital, and eventually died.  I think he was 16 years old.  True story.

I don't think Kobe Bryant is a good role model.
