OT: Ime getting some love from Simmons

I'm a big Ime fan. I'm a big Simmons hater. But Simmons gave Ime two big complements in the following, so if I ever meet Bill Simmons, I'll say, "Mr. Simmons, I dislike your writing style, but you were right about Ime in March of 2008.  What are you drinking?"

That's not off topic
I still love Ime, and I check out his stat lines on a regular basis.
He's playing some good minutes lately.

Ime is the new Bowen
He's taking over down there in Spurs land.  I'm fine with us losing him (more minutes for Marty and Trouty), but I'll always root for Ime.  How could we not?

If we were just a few years older and established as a good team (like the Spurs), then Ime would be perfect for us.  Unfortunately for Ime, we're still developing and can't afford a non-major-piece soaking up minutes at a spot we gotta develop some dudes at.

Plus Ime isn't a dirty bee-yotch like Bowen.  Bowen might be nice off the court, but he's going to basketball hell for his misdeeds on the hardwood.

Simmons is fine, I just get annoyed with he makes bold declarations about a player when he obviously hasn't seen much of the player.  When he actually watches a player, he is usually right-- but I guess he strusts his snap judgements of a player or thinks he can tell who they are from the boxscore.  He is very, very often wrong at predicting what a player will become but he is good at analysing what the player can do once the player is established.

Yay for Ime!

I love Ime
I'm so happy he's getting some burn for a good team. I, personally, would have rather had him instead of Jones this season.

I disagree a bit with Mort
I think Ime might have made the difference in half a dozen games for us this year.  Think LeBron James makes it to the rim untouched for the game winner with Ime on him?

As much as I like James Jones, I'll take Ime's defense of Jones slightly better three point shooting.

I think we agree
With Ime, we likely might've won a few more games.  But I think the development of Martell and Outlaw outweighs the many positives Ime would give us.  With Ime on the team, he starts at SF and Martell is left picking up scraps.  Martell wouldn't have his mini-breakout season, or be forced to improve his defence on the billion good SFs in the league.  Martell's potential is high enough (and with his rookie deal ending next season, we gotta see what we got) to forsake the "veteran" (since Ime isn't really a vet) solidness Ime provided.

As far as Lebron goes, he was getting to that basket no matter who was guarding him.  There is no stopping him there.  All you can do is double and triple team him, Ime or no Ime.

I'm just glad Ime found a home with someone else, so we all don't feel guilty that KP didn't keep him.  I know KP said Ime's agent (some buddy of Ime) was playing hardball and priced Ime out of a deal, but that could just be overstated to make it okay to "have" to play the young guys at SF.

Hmm... aside from Lebron, I can't think of many wing players that KILLED us this season.  We've been killed by every single PG (I think Chris Quinn scored 47 on us), but not really hurt by whoever Martell or Jones would be guarding.  With Jones shooting during the streak, Martell's periodic hot nights (like when he beat Utah all by himself), perhaps we actually won MORE games than we would have with Ime.

Am I forgetting a big night by Paul Pierce or Vince Carter or something?  The more I think about it, the less I think we missed Ime... Hmmm...

I gotta be forgetting something.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
