Rudy turned down big money?

http://www.elmundodeportivo.es/web/gen/20080325/noticia_53448375778.html

This article seems to say Rudy turned down 20 million Euros for three years from CSKA Moscow with a view on the horizon to play in the NBA.

I'm a little rusty on my espanol. Anyone care to translate (wink, wink to our friend in Spain)?

BTW ...
I never realized his official name was Rodolfo. That name is sweet! From here on I will only refer to the young Spaniard as Rodolfo.

you're basically right
CSKA Moscow offered him a big contract to stay in Europe but he turned it down.  Of course, everyone is speculating that he's heading to the Blazers.  However, his agent declined to comment as Rudy is still focused on winning for his current team.  At the end they even quoted Pritchard and Mike Barrett singing his praises and how Rudy's return will coincide with the return of Oden, etc.
Overall this is a very good sign for Blazers fans!

good ol' google translator
Running it through the translator also gets you this gem (towards the end):

With the recovery of pivot Greg Oden, a number of the latest draft, and Rudy strengthening a perimeter already very powerful, the goal of the Blazers is to pursue everything.

Forget "Rise With Us" -- our new slogan should be "Pursue Everything!"

I also like this one:
"In the end, DKV took the cat to water."

I have no idea what this means! Though it looks more like an expression rather than a weird translation, because "el gato al agua" is pretty close to that. Any Spaniards around want to explain this expression to us Americanites?

by bfan on Mar 25, 2008 1:39 PM PDT up reply actions

It is a saying to express when someone
obtain something that some more people is trying to obtain. Cats don´t like water, so the guy who achieve to carry the cat with him to the water is the guy who reach his goal against others. It can be aplied to a game, for example: The Blazers "se llevaron el gato al agua" in a game means they won the game.

Muchas gracias.
Maybe that's a common expression here also, but I've never heard it before ...

I believe you are thinking of the following:
"You can take a cat to water but you can't make him drown"

Of course, there's more than 1 way to drown a cat.

Pursue Everything
Perfect.  We should win every game.

Greg isn't going to play in summer league, and I don't know if Rudy will, with the Olympics this summer.

But after that, we pursue everything.  Everything.

We should not lose anything after Summer League until Summer League the following year.  That year, since we won't have that many draft picks, and since even our bench players will be all stars, we'll have a hard time fielding a team.

But we'll have an all-world team stashed in Europe, players so anxious to be associated with us that they'll personally buy out their European contracts just to play on our Summer League team.  All the best players in Europe will come over and win all the Summer League games.

Then, we will form a Trailblazers Euro team to play in Alfredo's home town, and they will rule Europe.

I haven't yet figured out how we are going to win the Eastern Conference as well as the West, but when we do, the Finals will be a matchup between our first and second string (since our bench will be better than everyone else's starters).  We are Pursuing Everything.

Most of the second units in NBA
could be the best teams in Europe and they would win against all Europe teams, once they develope and adapt to European competition (no more than one or two years). Only very few European teams can survive to that test and even that few are not very sure.

No, no, no
(I'm learning, that's bilingual, right?)

Our second unit will be the best in the >Eastern Conference<.  Our third unit will comprise two human victory cigars and three Development League all-stars.

But since we can only have 15 on our roster, we will have a FOURTH unit, and THEY will rule Europe.

Remember:  Pursue Everything.

Your are wrong for first time.
That words, "Sprechen Sie Deutsch?", are a cookney derivation of an old English saying: "Spread germ sift dog´s itch". You Know what I mean.

O/D
When Rudy has the ball, we shout "Rodolf-O!!!"

When Rudy is guarding the ball, "Rud-D!!!"

Maybe not.  Anyone know much about Rudy's D? (Thankfully, "The Matador" is already taken.)

Colonel Rondo and his second round armada?

If Boston is determine to rebuild and cut salary isn’t two mid lotto pics and the right salary filler decent. Maybe not enough but better than what most teams get in that situation. I would prefer that over the Chris Paul package.

I hope and figure that the Trail Blazers could have the best of both worlds. I’ve never seen a more bountiful 2nd round. Its conceivable that the team could deal both lotto picks and still find some nice players in the draft. Players like Orlando Johnson, Lucas Nogueira, Kevin Jones, Will Barton are 1st rounders in most drafts even if its just based on hype and potential. Then you have some possible gems in such a deep draft like Machado, a couple guys that I personally like from Georgetown-their center Henry Sims and forward Hollis Tompson. Both high upside players that I would love to watch in the summer league. If PA were to ever buy into or trade into late first or second round now is the time. Give me Freeland, Diebler and four second rounders in the summer league with Rondo coaching.
