Gameday Open Thread: Clippers vs. Blazers

Here we go...the first half of a home-and-away.  Will we be able to overcome Maggette and Thornton?  Will Cuttino Mobley bomb us out of existence.  Or will the mighty awesomeness of the awesome and mighty Roy-Aldridge duo plus the occasaional competence of our bench be enough to push us over the top?

Register all of your pre-, in-, and post-game thoughts right here.

--Dave (blazersub@yahoo.com)

P.S.  The Jersey Contest form for this game is  here.  Don't forget that tomorrow's game will not be a part of the contest but Monday's will be!

P.P.S.  There's a Gameday Thread a little bit below for the NCAA Tournament if you want to chat about today's college games as well.

P.P.P.S.  Don't forget to check out the brilliant and even more brilliant ClipsNation to see how the other half lives.

Speaking of that, I wanted to make this weekend a little extra fun so I wrote ClipperSteve proposing an extra bet on the side.  Seeing as how so many of you are good at writing new lyrics to old songs I figured we should wager that the losing team's blog would have to re-write a song about the winning team and/or its blog.  This is provided one team or the other sweeps the weekend, of course.  However I have since reconsidered, figuring it might not be fair to wager on back-to-back wins for a team that has lost 13 of 15.  Also I wrote ClipperSteve late and I don't know if he's willing.  So here is my proposal: I say we unilaterally make the offer.  If the Clips can win both games we at Blazersedge will come up with a nifty song for them.  If you want to get really cocky we could say if the Clippers win either game we will do so...though I'm not sure we're at the point to be able to do that yet.

So what say you?  Should we offer to serenade our brethren if they vanquish us?  And should one or two games be the criterion?  Let me know.

Update: OK...I've heard from ClipperSteve and the wager is on! They will compose a song for us if we sweep, but being a gentleman (and following your instructions) I put us up for the "Sweep or Serenade" option. If we lose even one of the two games we pay off. If you'd like to come up with some practice songs in the meantime, feel free. The thread is open.

Sweep or Serenade.

We wanna win bad, they shouldn't want to win, we gotta want it more and take these victories.  Anything less, and we legally deserve to make new lyrics praising the Los Angeles Clippers based upon the tune of old famous songs.  We'll get in trouble with the Basketball Gods and the cops if we don't. :-(

It's been forever since we had a game, I was worried the season was over! :-(

If the Clippers didn't have their numerous injuries, the West could theoritically have 12 decent to good teams (including the Kings).  Damn.

We're rested, tested, and big breasted.  Time to not be bested!

How about using a hated L*kers tune
to rewrite? I don't have one in mind and am not qualified to write more than two words in a row for a song.

I agree that we sweep or serenade. These guys need something besides ping pong balls to keep them tuned! We have been there.... too recently.

In other news
Did anyone listen to the latest Quick Chat? I just listened to a podcast of the program and heard that Greg Oden's left (healthy) knee is experiencing tendonitis. Quick says it's to be expected because they've been working so hard on the right knee that the left knee has to catch up. They aren't concerned. Hmmmmmm. Here's the link.
http://blog.oregonlive.com/blazers/2008/03/quick_podcast_with_oden_update.html

by annthefan on Mar 21, 2008 5:21 AM PDT reply actions

I haven't listened yet
But I can remind peoples that tendinitis is super-duper common in basketball athletes, and really shouldn't be a worry.  It's proof Oden is working hard, after all.

This is the sort of thing that shows we might be given too much info sometimes, because tendinitis really isn't a big deal at all but by reporting it some will see it as another injury or get overly worried about it.  I would imagine every player on our roster (aside from the invincible Von Wafer) has some degree of tendinitis.

If Oden has gotten huge and buff after only ONE year off, imagine how he'd look like with TWO years off?!  I say we just nip this tendinitis problem in the bud and micro the left knee too.  Then he'll have two Robot Strong knees and he'll become the Odenible Hulk!

It's all about the future guys.  If we all agree we probably won't win the title next season, maybe we shelve Oden until the playoffs of the year we might win it?

Just an idea (albiet a brilliant one).

But are we messing with karma by coming up with songs before tipoff?

by Corvid on Mar 21, 2008 3:30 PM PDT reply actions

My wife tends to be unhappy
when she finds me messing with Karma. Oh, you mean the Hindu concept of Karma. The plus side of believing in Karma is that you, and only you are really responsible for what happens to you. Unfortunately, that is also the downside. What happens to everyone else is their responsibility, and not necessarily mine. Leaving others to pay off their own karmic debt is considered more noble in India than adding to it by helping them. I can't blame them, since it is tied to their belief system. And those who believe in it seem to be okay with it, so more power to them. I personally just don't think it is all that helpful for our society as a whole in its purest form. But that is just me. Feel free to tenderly embrace Karma and invite her out for drinks the next time you see her. Er, it.
