Does Anyone Else HATE the New Oregon Live format?

Sorry if this is a repeat... but man! I hate the new Oregon Life format. It's the least navigable thing I've ever seen. It's like they did a web design based on sites from the early nineties. What gives?

I was already getting virtually all my Blazers information from this site... now I'm just about all the way committed. Has anyone else complained about that or am I all alone here?

Yes it sucks plenty
It was pretty darn good the way it was.

They should have paid Casey a cool mill to keep him over there.

I absolutely agree
So very annoying. I think they already tried a set up like  this a couple years back but I don't think it lasted as long as it has this time. Hopefully someone comes to there senses and changes it back to a managable site

sigh
As a web-designer, it annoys me that newspaper corps try to adopt the mantra of turning a webpage into a newspaper clone.

Guess what? IT AIN'T [sorry Dave, I said ain't, deal with it].

Make it a website, not a damn piece of paper!

I agree as well...

much harder to find the content I want to read.

Two years ago
I regularly read Oregon Live, Truehoop, Hoopsworld, and Hoopshype.  I found Blazers Thoughts and had a new favorite Blazers banter site. Last year, I read less O-live and hoopshype and more Blazersedge after Dave's transition.  This season, I primarily go to Blazersedge, occasionally go to Truehoop and rarely lokk at any of the others site I mentioned.

This is mostly due to the quality of discussion at Blazersedge.  Plus I trust that I will see ever bit of Blazers news in a diary very shortly after it is posted somewhere.  This allows me to spend less time scouring the web for Blazers banter.

And yes, O-live is just ugly, slow and not as good as Dave.

The criticisms are valid
but once you know where the links are you want to click it's not much different functionally than any other site. I'm just irritated that they changed it all. Whatever happened to, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"?  Make it better or leave it alone.

by MiledAnimal on Mar 13, 2008 10:34 AM PDT reply actions

My Biggest Beef..
..was actually implemented shortly before the redesign.  When I go to the blogs, I like to just be able to print (or scroll through) the new stories in one go.  Now, if I want all of a story, I've got to click on the "continue reading the entry..." link at the bottom of the teaser.  With the old format of the whole story followed by all of the next (like Blazers Edge) I can just look at the print preview and print the new pages I need in one go instead of clicking on each story.

Good... "user error" aside...
... I'm glad I'm not alone. I thought for a minute I had just gotten too old to keep up with the way things are supposed to work.

I am with you
I also do not like the new format and would like to see it back to the way it was.

Yup.
Bad layout - bad navigation (right-hand, WTF?), bad bad bad bad bad.

by DonkeyShins on Mar 13, 2008 11:25 AM PDT reply actions

I liked it better before...
but the worst site is definitely USAtoday.com.

That is just terrible.

Bill Simmons is smarter than I thought.

Me too me too
I know I can find the stuff just fine still (Just gotta scroll down to see the Blog and Quick's blog links), but it's annoying and it's harder to just look really quickly at the front page and see if anything new has happened.  You have to actually LOOK and double check crap just to see if anyone has died or something.  I don't like it at all.

If they don't change it back, I'll live.  But it's a dumb setup.  The content and everything has been GREAT, but this redesign is dirty booty sticks.

All me want is ease of navigation and ease of access to info.  The old site you could LOOK, and see if there was new news to read.  Now I gotta do more work and I am too important for this nonsense.

Its hard to describe how the new format makes me feel, as that Spirit Mtn casino commercial keeps going thru my head....

If it dosen't look
like that, uh, junk, on the O-Live site, Dave - we'll be cool.

But frankly Dave, I think you could shut down BE, start sending smoke signals from Idaho and everyone here would get binoculars...

Just make it like TrueHoop
used to be before ESPN bought it. That was as close to a perfect site as I've ever seen. Simple but elegant, well-organized, and easy to read. Best of all, you could read lots of Blazer items without complaints from Laker fans and other fools.

by MiledAnimal on Mar 13, 2008 4:41 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm already working on some complaints
I just hope to get the first diary in the new format and go off topic so no one will actually complain about the new format.

It is HORRIBLE
It looks cheap and disjointed.  It is hard to navigate and it looks like blog.  In fact, you can't tell what is a blog and what is a newspaper article.  It is a jumbled mess.  It was fine before, there was no need to change it.  Thankfully we have Dave and this site where we can get our information.

by Blazer22 on Mar 13, 2008 3:52 PM PDT reply actions

I hate that I was prompted to enter my zip again
For some reason.  In fact, I simply refused to log in at all.  You can find everything here (or Truehoop) that you can find on O-Live ...and more.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
