Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Things Western Conf. teams need to do to compete...

...in light of the Shaq trade:

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/7772940/Will-rest-of-West-hop-on-the-trading-block?

I like Hill's take on trades Portland might need/want to make:

"...and even suggested young forward Travis Outlaw as part of the compensation package.

I don't think the Blazers are insane."

Bottom line:

"The only thing -- besides Oden -- Portland needs to reach elite status is experience."

Ahh... refreshing!  Like a nice fresca.

Experience
Couldn't have said it better myself as far as experience is concerned. Just get young players and let this team develop. No need for any chintzy trades.

agree
This team is great... already has what it takes to be a contender and a dynasty

Nice to see
a dose of reality regarding the Blazers from national media trade coverage.

I don't agree
and I hope KP doesn't either.
it doesn't mean that I want to do any of the trades proposed, but I think we need a PG.

I agree with the guy ...
but why does everyone always pooh-pooh Miller? I think he's a pretty darn good PG--always has been. Not much of an outside shooter, so I don't think he'd bring what we need to the team, but I think he could definitely help a lot of teams out there like Houston, Denver, Miami, etc.

Miller is awesome
I'd like Andre Miller on the Blazers, he's a solid PG. It just seems that his teams don't win, because he's the trade bait for team improvement. Poor guy.

I'd rather rip on Jason Williams.

James Jones for the block

I concur
If Miller were available for a reasonable price that would be a huge score for this team.

The article correctly notes the depth next year
What I hypothesize is that LA and Phoenix are worried about next year also. Although neither team has played against Portland we are not a secret any longer and the whole league is realizing how much we have improved and how much better next year. Isn't it ironic that Dallas with Dampier and Diop as mostly dead wood in the past might be ok because of them in the future?

For years we Portland fans worried about how we would defend Shaq. And right to worry because we never could. Now with Andrew Bynum and Greg Oden in the West the conference realizes they need to match Portland. LA added Pau to counter LMA. Phoenix added Shaq to move Amare to PF and counter Bynum and Oden. The Sonics are doing the wrong thing. If they move from Seattle they should be moving into the Eastern Conference because they have bean stalks to match up with giants in the West.

An interesting hypothesis...
...Just like a chess match. Looking ahead...watching the trends...

In the interest of shoring up for the future, I'm becoming an advocate of obtaining a quality veteran PG - our weakest link.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
