The Fate of the "Rise With Us" Sign

Has anyone heard about the fate of the "Rise WIth Us" sign that is hanging from the grain elevators between the Willlamette River and the Rose Garden.  I read Canzano's article in the Oregonian about it.  How bogus!!  There is a deadline to bring it down because it did not comply with some obscure city sign code.  (Something about it not being molded to the form of the structure it was hanging from...right?) For more info on the problem, I found these links:

http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf?/base/sports/120166352127540.xml&a mp;coll=7&thispage=2

  http://blog.oregonlive.com/playbooksandprofits/2008/01/blazers_rise_with_us_banner_vi.html

Wouldn't it be cool if a lot of people, no, a whole lot of people contacted city council members asking them to pass some sort of ordinance exception to the sign rule specifically allowing the Blazers to use this structure to hang this sign and others similary hung there in future???  Would we?  Here's a link that might be helpful should you feel so inclined.

Canzano today mentions Portland has ok'ed the sign
Had they not though, the Blazers should have agreed to pay the $100 and forked over $100 to charity to match.  Take a negative and turn it into a positive.  For a year, your cost is $72,000 - peanuts for an NBA franchise.  And you gain untold dollars worth of advertising and publicity.  A city like Portland would eat that up.

It sounds like...
...............the city already granted them a variance. I think it was in Canzano's piece today, or at the end of the game story. I saw it somewhere in there anyway.

So the poll is moot.

more important
is the "White Stage" (ie, Made in Oregon sign) on the west side of the river. I want to keep that way more than the grain silo sign, which seems to change every year or so.

I don't know if they are keeping the sign,
but here is the future of the building for you.  http://pdx.uoregon.edu/index.php?p=about/about  Quack quack boys and girls.

Can Someone Find Me a Link Or Something ?
I looked tonight and was unable to find anything about a variance being granted to keep the "Rise With Us" sign.  I saw that if it was taken down and then put back up, there would be another 30 day warning before fining.  But nothing about permission being given to leave it up.  Granted, it isn't yet 1am (like last night), so I don't have Friday's newspaper yet.  But, I've spent way too long searching on-line and found nothing.

Has anyone complained to city council yet?

linkage, don't know what Canzano's source is

Also, the city notified the Blazers that it has changed its mind, and will not force the franchise to remove its popular "Rise With Us" banner from the grain silo near the Rose Garden.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
