Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

copy the lakers and the spurs

what the blazers need to do is have their own d-league team.  It's been a while since we've talked about this here, but i believe this is the most crucial step in our progress as a championship contender.  We got enough rookies and european players to fill half a team currently, and with the upcoming draft we could add a few more.  On top of that, imagine if we sent sergio down to get some clock.  He wouldn't have to go that far.  Lets put the team in beaverton, or gresham or wherever as long as it somewhere close to portland.  how bout mcroberts, how bout freeman, how bout the local guys like ime who can ball, just haven't developed into a man yet.  paul allens got enough money, oregons got enough fans.  all you who love this site and this team need to make noise about this.  The lakers and spurs have their own dleague teams,  we have some team in idaho that we share....seriously, what's going on with that.  Are we gonna stay a small time franchise or shouldn't we have the best that money can buy.  So what if it's a bad investment for paul allen, it's not our money....this is my rant, and thank god darius miles isn't really on our team.  And martell needs to get tough, nate mcmillan wishes jack were his son, and rudy f highlights are a joy to watch.

umm....
we do have a d league team that we share so what.  Don't forget we are a small market NBA team, what makes you think we can support a d league team?  Just because PA is rich, doesn't mean he will blow all his money.  I am pretty certain that leagues like the ACB (where Rudy is playing) are much better than NBA D-Leagues.  Mc Roberts already had a stint in the D-League.  He played fine there, yet everyone's main complaint with him was that he didn't seem to care while playing there.  Ime plays for the Spurs and has a chance at a championship.  For awhile he was actually a big contributer off he bench as well, so I doubt he would want to play for the D-League in the Metro area (plus he wouldn't be eligible anyways bc of age).

oh
I see.  I still dunno about a D league team regardless...PA has already thrown a ton of money at this team, I don't think its really fair to ask him to throw more money at them.  How many owners would have bought out a 30 million dollar contract?  If the team loses, then PA loses money...yet now we are winning and people complain that ticket prices will go up. If we had a d league team, I'm sure the money lost in the D-league would get passed over onto Blazer ticket prices.

The roster limit is still 15
whether PA owns a D-league team or not. And anyone not on a 15 man roster in the D-league is available for any team to sign to theirs. So our European players are not eligible because we have already drafted them. Am I wrong on this?

Its All about the MINUTES...
If we did have sole control of our own D-League team, we could have our guys playing whatever amount of MINUTES we need them to in order to improve.  McRoberts was barely getting any PT down there, so it could have been a detriment in attitude rather than progress on skills and confidence.

How many guys play in our rotation?  10... that leaves probably 2-4 guys that we could have running and playing in D-league during any given point, rather than chillin on the bench.

eligibility
only first or second year players can play in the d league.  Only Roy, LMA, Sergio, and Mc Roberts are eligible.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
