I was surprised to see

That we are not that far out of the playoffs.  6 games?  We could do that.  There are lots of games left and we don't seem to be playing that bad.  We seem to be able to turn it up a notch to where it needs to be to win, but we have a hard time sustaining that level of play.  I know it is optimistic but what are the chances that we have one more little spurt in us to get us to the playoffs?

i doubt it's gonna happen
because the schedule's tough the rest of the season and the team just isn't beating anyone (although they're not playing lousy for 48 minutes). i still enjoy watching them but i'm looking at how different players develop.

like: if steve blake or jarrett jack has a good game i think that's nice but it's not really gonna lead them anywhere,

whereas if travis outlaw or lamarcus aldridge or (to a lesser extent) martell webster has a good game i feel like they're learning and will put what they're learning to use next year and beyond. especially when they show new things -- travis driving to the hoop and scoring or getting fouled -- or lamarcus working well in the low post and/or putting the ball on the floor and/or utilizing hooks.

there's plenty of interesting stuff to watch.

not gonna happen, man
but that's okay.

with how tight the west is at this stage, it's become more important than ever for teams to win. I mean, there's 5.5 games seperating 1-8, meaning if you slip up and lose a couple of games you could be out. With as many games against upper level western teams as we have left, our young team won't have a chance.

Bill Simmons is a moron.

6 games is A TON
When your competition never loses.  Houston is on a 13 game winning streak(they better not get to 14!), and they are 22 and 4 in 2008.

Golden state is in the 8th spot with Denver nipping at their heels.  If both these teams played .500 ball the rest of the way(not likely), they would finish 47-35, and 46-36 respectively.  If they play at their current pace, Golden State would finish 50-32, and Denver would finish 48-34.

For the blazers to get to 50-32, they would need to finish with a record of 21-4, and that would just be a tie.  If both Denver and Golden State slip and play .500 ball, we would still need to go 18-7 the rest of the way.  Is it mathematically possible? Sure. Is it reasonably possible? I say no...

oops
My point with Houston is they are 22-4 over the last two months and have barely climbed into the 7th playoff spot during that time, its really hard to gain ground in the west this year...

we're not making the playoffs
the wuestion is, is Sacramento going to catch up on us?
With the way we're playing and the schedule I think there's a good chance it happens.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
