Bill Simmons 4 years ago

I just came across this.  This was a debate between Dwight Howard and Emeka Okafor as the number one draft pick.  Simmons should really re-look at his past comments before he picks on Aldridge and the Blazer fans.

Here is the quote:
"7:37 - The Magic are on the clock with the first pick. If they're smart, they take Emeka Okafor. If they're dumb, they take Howard. It's that simple."

Yeah I posted about this
In that trade thread with LMA and Rudy for Conley and  Mike Miller.

He gets a lot of stuff wrong. That's the bottom line.

Dwight Howard is now indisputably the best center in the league.

re-post
I even scanned that diary a couple of times before I posted this one...to make sure I was not bringing up old news.  I need new glasses.

Here you go
lol!

Well Bill Simmons was convinced Tyrus Thomas was better than LMA and that Emeka Okafur was better than Dwight Howard. Averaging 17 and 8 in basically your rookie year isn't impressive?

    Not just "better"...

He basically said the Magic were moronic maroons for taking Howard and he would be a bust.  I think Simmons can judge players decently when he actually watches them over time, but when he hasn't done his due diligence in watching a guy before judging him I'm surprised he still makes such bold claims... he's been burned so many times before and his haters love to throw it in his face.

The "Oden walks old" bit will go down as one of his worst lines, as well.

job?
This explains why he is a columnist and not a General Manager...of anything.

Yeah, he is that simple-minded.
Oh, sorry. Just joking. I even would like him if he would be here posting that garbage.

Also
In his "draft preview" he also wrote that it made no sense for us to trade Zbo and draft Oden. He said if we were smart, we'd trade down to #2 for Shard and the #2 and take Durant. Plus we already had 2 quality bigs in Aldridge and Zbo... sounds contradicting...

He's probably incompetant because...
He's basically acting like an expert on every team in the NBA and saying what they should or should not do.
It's probably impossible to be as well informed on 30 teams as it is to be a dedicated fan of 1 team.

As such I would never have the kind of ego or so called "expertise" to be as egregious as Bill Simmons is when claiming that "Blazer's fan are the most irrational fans in the NBA" when he clearly hasn't watched more than 5 games this year.

Thank You BS

Thanks
I took it out for the open thread and was too lazy to grab the old quote.  I also feel naked without a signature so I grabbed what was available.

Nice One
Our new signatures are way better than jscot's signature.  Maybe we should start a caste system based on signatures.  Trail Blazers related signatures at the top and no signatures at the bottom.  I am probably a mid-level Vaishya.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
