Kidd Trade Official
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3253107
Great deal for the Mavs. I think Harris will be a very good player for the Nets, but Kidd's a first-ballot HOF PG with Finals experience and a lot of gas still in the tank. I've thought for a long time that a Dirk-led team would never win anything significant, and this trade is gonna give Dallas a new leader come playoff time. They're more dangerous now than the new-look L*kers.

Is Kidd better than Nash?
I haven't heard anyone mention this yet, here or elsewhere, though it seems everyone loves or hates the trade. Isn't this team just like the team they once had, just with less young assets? I just don't see how this finally puts them over the top.
I love watching other teams make the same mistake that our team made 10 years ago, bringing in old, expensive players to try to win it all. Good luck staying competitive, Dallas!

That team had him too, as well as...
That team might have had a chance. This team doesn't. They're doomed. They blew it.

I agree...
Kidd is feeling TIME crunching down on his career, they have vets who want to win the big dance... much like Boston, but I don't think they are near as good as Boston. They will compete, but I doubt they have enough for the trophy.

awful trade for the Mavs

at least it's better than earlier deal
I think Harris is the third best young point guard after Chris Paul and Deron Williams. He's a good defender and one of the fastest players in the league. I don't this leapfrogs them over any of the other teams in the west and they also lost a good defensive big man. Can you really see Dampier guarding Duncan, Yao, Stoudomire, Shaq, and Bynum without getting in foul trouble for three straight playoff series?

The mavs made a big mistake
Dirks a pretty good player, Howard, and Harris is a pretty good core. You back that up with a REAL shooting guard and maybe 2 solid defensive centers they are right back in the mix.
Even if Dirk will be like 32 or whatever, he'll still be better than 85% of the 4s in this league.
Instead of retooling for a future run with some older players they threw down the gauntlet in a year where their move isn't even relevant. They should have waited till next year or the year after when Phoenix is gone and San Antonio is out of the picture.
I hope when this time comes, the Blazers will make smart moves for the future instead of this desperation all or nothing gamble.
