Rookies win
the team introductions. Horford was way better than Gay.

Too bad oden's hurt
I'll bet he wouldve liked playing with conley again

by OregonDuckworth on Feb 15, 2008 6:14 PM PST reply actions

I doubt roy has a very good game
not really an exhibition kind of player.  LMA should have a couple big dunks though

by OregonDuckworth on Feb 15, 2008 6:17 PM PST reply actions

If we don't win this game
We have no shot of making the playoffs.

by Mortimer on Feb 15, 2008 6:19 PM PST reply actions

Yeah!
Fire the coach and who should we trade?

by troutfan on Feb 15, 2008 6:20 PM PST up reply actions

Trade Rondo
I'm sick of his turnovers.

by Mortimer on Feb 15, 2008 6:22 PM PST up reply actions

Whoever is coaching the Sophs
Is just in love with him for no reason.

by Mortimer on Feb 15, 2008 6:24 PM PST up reply actions

I'm sure
His team oriented attitude is keeping him around. Couldn't be anything else

by troutfan on Feb 15, 2008 6:27 PM PST up reply actions

Roy tried to oop LMA
LMA made Roy look like a punk.

by Mortimer on Feb 15, 2008 6:21 PM PST reply actions

ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY FOR 3
This rook soph game will go down in history.

by Mortimer on Feb 15, 2008 6:26 PM PST reply actions

What I wanna see
Is Horford get a defensive rebound and run the fastbreak.  he can do it, he's got really good handles for a big, EXTREMELY good for a rookie.

by Mortimer on Feb 15, 2008 6:30 PM PST reply actions

NICE PASS CONLEY AHAHA
And some of us here want to trade for this joke?!?!?!  HAHAHA

by Mortimer on Feb 15, 2008 6:31 PM PST reply actions

WHOA
Roy dunks a halfcourt lob from Rondo.

by Mortimer on Feb 15, 2008 6:32 PM PST reply actions

Horford
Is gonna be so good.  He's gotta play PF though, the Hawks got him at C... and he can do it, but he'll dominate at PF.

by Mortimer on Feb 15, 2008 6:32 PM PST reply actions

No kidding
Roy is such a jerk it isn't even funny.

by Mortimer on Feb 15, 2008 6:34 PM PST up reply actions

Not me
I met him the other night and he talked to me for a few hours, was polite and all as we discussed basketball, politics, movies, and how he feels leading an NBA team in only his second season.

Then right around midnight, he's like "ok Morty, it was nice meeting you but I gotta get to bed.  Gimme a call later and we'll play nintendo".  I was like WHAT?!?!  You're leaving like THAT?

I used to be a big fan, but not anymore.  The goody goody attitude is such a fake, he couldn't wait to only spend 3 hours with me and get to bed.

Jerk-Bot.

I wonder
If people would think Farmar is good if he wasn't a Laker.

"First, though, Miles will have to pass the team's basic conditioning test, which consists of asking the players to run a series of baseline-to-baseline sprints. LaMarcus Aldridge holds the team record, passing the test in preseason camp with 15 seconds to spare."

by Mortimer on Feb 15, 2008 7:23 PM PST up reply actions

I saw part of it, thought it was kinda funny...
They had Steven A. Smith "coaching" one team and Terrell Owens was on his team playing pretty well.  Rick Bucher was the "commissioner," and Bill Walton "coaching" the other team, where Deion Sanders was playing ok.  Midway through the game, Steven A. Smith tries to trade someone on his team for Deion Sanders.  Bucher says, "OK."  Or maybe it was Bucher who came up with the trade idea.  Anyway, Sanders pulls a Devean George and says no.  Laughs all around.

Lots of love shown
for Roy and the Blazers tonight.  Cool.

Loved Roy's "You're hot right now, but I'm a legend" comment to LMA.

I'll be interested in a box score if they keep one - want to see Broy's assists and LMA's blocks.  He was one of the few playing defense.
I think both he and Brandon took the game a little more seriously than some of the others.

Is Gibson available?  :-)

End of game
Anyone else see at the end of the game when the players are congratulating each other , some guy in a red jersey flipped Aldridge off right in his face, and you can see him say *&^k you. I wonder what happened or if they were just kidding around. LaMarcus was smiling but he didn't really seem to even notice the guy. I watched it on Tivo like 50 times because I couldn't believe it. I hope LaMarcus uses that as fuel against whoever that was.

by mmopg1 on Feb 16, 2008 9:05 AM PST reply actions

Sean Williams is an a-hole
Did you see him do the ONLY hard foul of the entire game?  He did it to Brandon right as he was about to throw down a tomahawk.

by robrun2 on Feb 16, 2008 12:50 PM PST up reply actions

I'm posting way late...
The game is over. I'm glad Brandon and LA got to participate but I have to admit I hate the Rookie/Sophmore game.

I think the league needs to leave the format like a regular game. Right now the way it is played, encourages it to become simple a playground type exercise, and IMO it's becomes boring.

Have real time outs, regular quarters, standard rules apply and offer some prize money so winning might matter.

Right now it's a game where players seem more intent on flash, and no substance. I understand that nobody wants to be injured during a exhibition game but a little defense?

Because of Aldridge and Roys participation I watched the whole thing, but even the announcers sounded bored by the second half. I certainly was.

If you are going to call it a game, then I think the league and the players need to make it a game. To me the Rookie/Soph "game" is more of just an exhibition of court running, shooting and dunking. It's hardly played as a game.

"Mother Nature started this fight, I think it's about time we ended it!"

by Krang on Feb 16, 2008 11:11 AM PST reply actions

I think they called it a "challenge"
not a game.   I think it is intended to be a showcase, not a competition.

In the rookie contest last year.  Brandon didn't look at all like a candidate for ROY and David Lee was outstanding. But that was even more boring than this year's.

I thought our guys acquitted themselves quite nicely this year and again it was a "who's that?" who dominated and got the MVP. Good for Gibson - this may be his only chance for the record books.

I will watch next year because I'm sure GO will play.  But I'll not watch unless one of our guys was playing.  But that's true of the All-Star game too.

FWIW, I thought LeBron on the sidelines was kinda fun.  I wouldn't have minded if a Blazer was there showing off, rooting for our guys.  At least Blaze was there.

To me the funniest part was when Karl Malone reduced Barkley to the giggles.

"As of today, when Jones plays 15 minutes or more, Portland is 21-8, which is a 72% winning percentage" - Henry Abbott, February 12.

Found an article
that gives a little more info, including "We've got to come out and take this trip as a little business trip," Jordan Farmar said. "There's a financial incentive for winning the game, so we might as well look at it as a business opportunity, just come together and get it done."

Willis Reed to LMA : "The first think he told me was, 'If they don't pass you the ball, get in the paint and get every offensive rebound,'" Aldridge revealed. "   I'm sure he's heard THAT before.
