rebounding
Are we really banking on Oden being the answer for our rebounding struggles? What if he gets two fouls in the first two and a half minutes like Pryzbilla did tonight, then what? As soon as Pryzbilla went out tonight, Dallas got 3 or 4 offensive boards in a single possession, and Mike Rice says, "that's what's going to happen without Pryzbilla.
Are you serious??
Are we really counting on one player to do all of our rebounding? I hope not. Do any of our bigs besides joel have a passion for getting a board? I wish.
To start the second quarter we start Raef in hopes of hitting the boards a little better. Really? We need to do that? Now, nothing against Raef, I know he stays in shape and plays hard, but when will we be able to count on our main guys stepping up and really hitting the boards without joel?
When we do get rebounds without Pryz in the game, it seems like it's never a solid grab, it's always someone slapping it out to someone...man I'd like to see some good solid block outs on a consistent basis from LA, Frye and Outlaw. Maybe our guys just need to get stronger...what do you think?

How about...
and is it to much to ask for 50% from the line?
What happens if Oden gets 2 quick fouls?
I know what your getting at, but I think Oden will be a huge help on the boards.
Aside from welcoming GO to the active roster, I'd like to see us add someone like a Ronny Turiaf to the roster. I have no idea how we'd do that given our current roster crunch, but he'll be a free agent this summer and he probably won't cost a lot. I think he'd fit in nicely.
Turiaf, Nick Collison and David Lee
That said, England Dan below has the point to remember. It isn't that Greg Oden is going to fix the problem by himself. There is also the trickle down effect. Additionally, some of our guys are going to get better. I've come 180 on Frye and think that he has the potential to average 14 - 15 per 48. That's in the Lee / Collison range.
(for comparison, Channing is averaging 12 this year, which is tied with Chris Bosh. Turiaf is at 9.7 and our own Joel is ranked 7th among centers at 16.1)
I'm putting my head in the sand
Rose Garden Ceiling
You all Know the story:
Beginning in 1508, Michelangelo spent four years painting the Sistine Chaple Ceiling. Michelangelo, who was known for a quick temper and rudeness, only showed the work in progress to the Pope, who was growing frustrated with the time to complete the project. "Buonarotti, when will it be finished? "Holiness, when I am finished."
"I live in Hell, and paint its pictures."
He may have lived in Hell to produce this masterpiece, but certainly gave us a glimpse of Heaven. There was a book, along with a movie, made about this endeavor. It was called, "The Agony and the Ecstasy."
This will be our Blazers life for the next years.
Oden will be better than Przybilla.

You are completely right bustabucket
To say that Oden will solve it all is a cop-out, because that is basically saying that the other players shouldn't have to work harder or change anything about what they are doing right now. Well, what they are doing right now isn't working. Rebounding and blocking out is a fundamental part of basketball. We prove night after night that we are not fundamentally sound in that area. Oden should get us no less than 10-12 boards a game. Is that going to solve all of our problems? Heck no.
A few people on BE have correctly made the observation that 1/2 of our offensive rebounding problems are the result of our lack of perimeter defense. Too many people are getting penetration on us. Our bigs try to contest those drives with a shot block attemp, leaving the person they were guarding wide open....for offensive rebounds.
I will go on record as saying that the people on here who think Oden will completely turn the table on our rebounding woes are mildly delusional. Perhaps during the offseason, we'll see some improvement by the other players on this team, and when Greg comes back, it will appear that way. However, if players and coaches don't take it on themselves to correct these deficiencies, we will see our Odens and Przybillas out with 2 quick fouls.
KP has done some great things so far...he must realize (if he hasn't already)that we have a lot of leaks in our boat and the boat is taking on water. Some of this is due to youth, but that can only be a valid excuse some of the time. We have seen what this team is capable of. We went on a 13 game win streak and our rebounding/second chance points still sucked!
Youth or not, I expect professionalism and attention to detail from the players and the coaches. There are going to be some growing pains along the way, but I have to believe that the sculpter (KP) isn't done molding the clay just yet.
