We must defend this house.  As you know, the Blazers are spending the bulk of December at home.  To date, the team is undefeated in the Rose Garden.

When does that streak snap?  Please enlighten me.  By voting. And commenting.

I can't help but homer out here.

If we can make it to 2009 without a home loss, I will be stunned, but, that doesn’t change the fact that I vote for it.

I all honesty:

The Magic, Suns, Nuggets and Celts present huge challenges, not to mention all those other teams that are gunning to spoil our record at home.

Think the Celtics will get us again. I almost went with the Magic since they are playing well, but they have a game tonight before facing us tomorrow. Should help us out. Pheonix is a potential loss too but I know the RG fans won’t let it happen

Portland did keep them from perfection at home. It was fairly early in the season though so it wasn’t too dramatic. We beat them pretty good too…by almost 20 I think.

Mavs

I can’t help it, they are my other teams and need some wins to make the playoffs :)

Hope the Suns are still in disarray when they come to Portland, otherwise that could be it since we didn’t match up good with them so far.

I also voted Mavs...

Two reasons really. First, I think we’ll have sufficient motivation to really lay one on the Suns, and second, we don’t seem to have fared very well on big national games this year. Granted, those have been away games against good teams. But this playing on Christmas Day thing gives me a bad vibe.

All in all, the Mavs feel the most like a “Trap” game to me.

by Y5k on Dec 8, 2008 1:33 PM PST up reply actions

I'm very concerned about Orlando

They are 6-2 on the road. They will feel like they owe us one. Dwight will have his first game against Greg, so will be ultra-motivated. Greg may psyche out. Going for us — for us, it is our first game back, but they have a back to back, and it’s a late one for them because they are at Staples. Sure, they should beat the Clippers easily, but it is still a very late night by the time they get to Portland. So, while I’m nervous about it, I think we have a better chance to win it than to lose it.

Next big danger game is Phoenix. They have two days off before hand. But we’ll be home, and have the day before off, and I think we’ll get them.

I’m guessing it will be Denver, Dallas, or Toronto. All games we should be able to win, but all of them games we will lose if we have an off night. I’m guessing one of those will be an off night, but I can’t possibly tell which it will be.

Totally going to blow our minds and lose in a blowout to the Clippers.

The crowd will boo, and the mercurial fans will say all of the following: Nate should be fired; Aldridge should be traded; Oden will never amount to anything; Brandon Roy should stop hogging the ball; Steve Blake is the worst point guard ever; Travis is a disaster; Sergio will never fit with this team; Rudy has been way over-hyped; Bayless and Ike are our only hope; And Channing Frye should just be cut despite not playing even in garbage time.

Our fans may be mercurial, but they are predictable.

Im thinking that it is one of the bookend games

We could lose either tomorrow’s game, or the end of the month. I think every game, except maybe that Celtics game is winnable, I just don’t know if we are gonna do it. Of course, if we are the 4th best team in the nation, like everyone seems to think, then we ought to win every game except the Celtics. We’ll see though. There’s a reason we play the games.

by usdblazerfan on Dec 8, 2008 1:46 PM PST reply actions

Totally going to be Denver

It’s our only back-to-back on this homestand, and even though we’ll be at home, it doesn’t look good for us. Denver is a solid team. That said, I think we’ll take the first one in Denver.

If we can make it out of December undefeated at home, though, I could see a Celtics-like 40-1 home record this year.

by notjames116 on Dec 8, 2008 1:54 PM PST reply actions

I voted no home losses in December

I don’t really believe its going to happen that way, but I think we’re better than Orlando- I don’t see us losing to LAC or Sac. We’re not losing to Phoenix again, I couldn’t vote for the Denver game because I’ll be at the game (my first this season), and I figured if I got that far I might as well vote for 8-0.

Realistically, I think we’ll go 6-2 at home this season. Ranking the games in order of most likely for Portland to lose: Boston, Denver, Orlando, Dallas, Phoenix, Toronto, Sacramento, LA Clippers.

I’ve got really really good tickets, but its for the clippers game. Hopefully they win, and I kind of hope as well that it’s not a good game. I have a hunch our first loss will be the result

of playing poorly and much more about our mistakes than what the other team does. That said – it’s very hard to point to a specific game. It could happen at any time :(. If that scenerio doesnt play out before Boston – the Celts have a really good chance of winning @ the RG (revelation i know :).

I didn't vote because I don't know

They have the potential to lose to any of the good teams, because good teams seem to lose at least one game to an inferior opponent. The Blazers are a bit of both roles depending on the opponent, so it is just too hard to speculate.

Some of these home games feel like away games...

Orlando after one day rest from a long 5 day trip.
Fly out to Utah one day after, then back home for a back to back against the LAC.
Denver away then back home against Denver on a back to back…

Seriously, for us to have this record (undefeated at home) while being handed the worst schedule in history is pretty amazing.

I can see the league scheduler wearing an Celtic’s Ainge jersey or a L*akers K*be jersey while making Portland’s schedule.

Suns

I’m really hoping that we roll through the new year undefeated at home. I voted for Phoenix. After re-watching both games @ Phoenix, we just do not match up well with them. Shaq & Amare are a tough matchup for us. Although we did well against Toronto’s twin towers, the Phoenix version is much more physical and as we know (see Boston) the Zers don’t perform well when bullied. Throw in the mis-match with Nash / Blake and we just can’t stop them unless they are really cold from the field or Greg breaks out and gets his first triple double (15 / 15 / 10 blocks).

Again, I’ll be cheering my HEART out for all the upcoming home games (Section 310).

Go Zers.

Ya, he really is something to watch. Athletically, at his size, there probaby hasn't been anyone like him.

The Magic don’t really match up well with us, and I think going into the game, we have a better chance at this one than we did that Raptor game at the end of the road trip even. Their scoring from Dwight is drastically docked because of our superior defensive play at the C. And the other place to hurt us, at the point, just doesn’t work, because they have no one to do the hurting. Hedo is nice, and I believe I saw someone somewhere say that Lewis has the most 3’s of anyone, but who’s supposed to create for them? Batum can cover Lewis pretty well, and Hedo isn’t going to be you on his own. Offensively… they just can’t stop the sheer quantity of scorers we have. I don’t want to jinx it, but we’re looking good for tomorrow.

I have a bad feeling about the Magic game.

Big surprise that my thinking is similar to jscot’s.

But I’m also thinking that following tonight’s game, we sweep the remainder of our home games in Dec. We get our first win against the Suns and suprise Boston buy beating the hell out of them. (I’m talking about bruises, not the score. I want Celtic blood on the court. Whether we win by a point or by double digits matters less than letting Boston know they run their mouths at their own risk against Portland from here on out.)

Don´t worry. Big win. Almost blow-out.

What will be the future of our Blazers. Just a few seasons ago, the Blazers were going to be the OKC of the NBA but injuries to Roy and Oden crippled our dreams of a young championship contender for years and years.

Colonel Rondo and his second round armada?

If Boston is determine to rebuild and cut salary isn’t two mid lotto pics and the right salary filler decent. Maybe not enough but better than what most teams get in that situation. I would prefer that over the Chris Paul package.

I hope and figure that the Trail Blazers could have the best of both worlds. I’ve never seen a more bountiful 2nd round. Its conceivable that the team could deal both lotto picks and still find some nice players in the draft. Players like Orlando Johnson, Lucas Nogueira, Kevin Jones, Will Barton are 1st rounders in most drafts even if its just based on hype and potential. Then you have some possible gems in such a deep draft like Machado, a couple guys that I personally like from Georgetown-their center Henry Sims and forward Hollis Tompson. Both high upside players that I would love to watch in the summer league. If PA were to ever buy into or trade into late first or second round now is the time. Give me Freeland, Diebler and four second rounders in the summer league with Rondo coaching.
