Information request-owner info
The other day I read a brief blurb about how attractive RLEC is because of his large expiring contract, and the 5.1 mil covered by insurance. While there have been numerous posts describing possible trading partners who might be dropping salary for 2010 or blowing up their rosters, I haven't seen an analysis of the different owners who might be looking to save money.
Specifically, I'm hoping that someone in the community who has better research skills than myself, might look into the financial situations of NBA owners, especially in light of the general economic troubles in the country. Additionally an analysis of how likely they are to make a trade to cut salary in light of their financialy situation would be very cool.

i think the usual suspects list of cheap teams looks something like…
atlanta, oklahoma city, memphis, phoenix, charlotte, milwaukee, clippers
some of those make more sense than others for RLEC.
before the season started at a meet and greet, KP mentioned atlanta as a hypothetical team that might have interest in RLEC. with their solid start that might be less likely now.
hope that helps. maybe others will add on.
Draft Kyle Singler.

talking with some guys at the Orlando blog
It sounds like their owner will do anything to stay under the luxury tax level, and they currently have some huge contracts on the books. So they’ve backed themselves against the wall and might be interested in RLEC.

Cap Space
The teams that currently have a combination of low cap space & a losing team wanting to make a move towards a high ticket 09 free agent. Those are the teams looking for RLEC.
I want Rajon Rondo

What is the issue with the insurance?
Insurance is usually for injuries and is predicated on how many games the player plays. What are the circumstances surrounding this 5.1 million in insurance.
Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

once raef misses 41 games the insurance kicks in and assuming he misses the rest of the season is $5 million

That information is a little dated
but a good starting point. However it only lists the principal owners, and not minority owners (if any). At least in the case of the Lakers, their minority owner (Philip Anschutz through his company Anschutz Entertainment Group) has a far higher net worth than Jerry Buss and has a net worth that begins to rival Paul Allens (well it is about 1/2)

All teams named by Ben would make sense. I think under financial aspects Charlotte Bobcats would be a good call
- Second largest banking hub in the US, hit heavily be the financial crisis → Less sponsoring money, less ticket sales
- Owner already downsized his organization before the season, e.g. releasing most people in marketing/event management
- Forbes ranking: Only 29th most valuable NBA team.
- Operating income: -$4.9 mil
- Owner bought them for ca. $300 mil, now worth ca. $284.
- Owner made his money with: Founder of BET. Net worth in excess of $1 billion. (Minority owners incl. MJ and Nelly)
- Season goal: Reaching the playoffs if anyhow possible (also to generate income).
- Roster: Too expensive. $45 mil. locked up among Okafor, Richardson, Wallace, Mohammed (!), Caroll (!!) until 2011
- Team needs: A center, to move Emeka Okafor back to his natural PF position.
- Why potentially attractive for us: SF Gerald Wallace, PG Raymond Felton
Another team that might be added to the list would be New Jersey (although they might already have made their move by sending Jefferson out). 26th in value, worst debt/value ration in the league. And big investments coming up to get ready for 2010 (move to Brooklyn, get LeBron).
In general, besides looking at the owners it could be interesting to look which teams have (long-term) contracts of overpaid “stars” that they might want to get rid of at a discount in terms of player value coming back. But the list could be fairly long :)

I like Felton and Wallace at the right price
but I wonder how good Felton can be. He’s not a great shooter. What do you think his upside is?
And Wallace is great, but that will hinder the development of Batum/Martell. What do you do with the logjam at SF with 3 prototypical SFs?

Ration
I always make that typo too. Well, good research! I am sort of in the camp of “let it expire” so we can pay our guys. I’m such a homer though that I just don’t want anyone pushed out. Hell, resign Raef!!!!

I love Paul Allen
He could quite literally buy the rest of the league.
