where was the rally cry???
We don't have a tough guy to rally the troops, period. We can rely on our skills to a point, but we need an emotional leader to instill fearlessness. I'm utterly convinced we need to trade Channing Frye for a fearless competitor to talk trash back to the Celtics and Shaq. We'll make the playoffs, but playoffs are not for wimps who cower under intimidating teams. Who? Who? We were down by 11 with four miinutes to go. We could have come back, but we just relied on lucky jump shots. We looked like absolutely pathetic little rabbits trapped in a corner by a wolf. There was no improvement from last year against the Celtics, we need just one missing link!

A guy like Rasheed would've looked nice out there tonight....

Why?
He’s just as soft as everybody else.

Greg Oden
Must be that guy. He cant right now, because he is not playing at the level to back up any talk, but make no mistake, down the road he will be that enforcer

not greg oden
He internalizes too much. He’ll be a great presence, but not a vocal leader on the court. Brandon is good in the locker room, but we need a bruiser who doesn’t take crap from anyone.

Excuse me! Hello? Is this thing on?
Jerryd Bayless was that guy. He came in during the fourth and bulled his way for a few baskets. The dude never gave up. Bayless defines tough. Sure he didn’t go against KG for 48 minutes, but he certainly wasn’t no softie out there. With the game on ice for the C’s, he came in and brought passion that no one else brought tonight.
+1 for Jerryd.
That is really hideous

I agree, but
Bayless did bring energy, but was he a vocal leader? No. Everyone was emotionally lost and went in their shell and did their own thing. Nobody brought the team back together to play with passion
by DevotedBlazer on Dec 5, 2008 8:53 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Bayless has the capacity to be that guy though
One look at his Bayless face tells you that.
A leader doesn’t have to be overly vocal. A lot of guys show their leadership with action. Words aren’t always necessary.

BAYLESS
its like people keep talking about toughness and just ignore the fact that bayless is that exact type of guy. Sure he isn’t 6-11 250 but he is a take no crap kind of guy and tonight if my eyes served me right KG got in his way and bayless walked right through him.

Arrant nonsense.
Roy’s brought this team back from the dead at least five times this year.
One loss. It’s one loss. Get a grip.

It's not just one loss
It’s the way we lost. This was like a playoff game. We can win a lot of games early in the season, but what about crunch time, when everyone is jockeying for playoff position.? Roy has a quiet passion, lead by example, but what usually happens with that, is that eveyone stands and watches him.
by DevotedBlazer on Dec 5, 2008 9:11 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
It is still one loss...
if the Blazers go out and beat Toronto and keep playing with confidence and mark the calendar for their next meeting with the Celtics. It isn’t like they lost to a bad team.
Shake the dust off, get up again and keep fighting. This was a bad loss and frustrating for the team and the fans…but it is still just one loss.

Its not about trash talk
Look Roy started trash talk and after that everything went down the hill. Boston knows if you start trash talk then you copy them and they are best with it, cuz they can back it up with smart D and intensity.

Whos talking about trash talk
Having a mean streak and not backing down doesn’t always translate into trash talk. In fact someone should tell the Celtics that. KG and Peirce are jerks and never stop running the mouths. they have no class and I don’t think they have to do that to be the way they are. I think they could do it though there physical play and with a little body language. (maybe just a well timed comment here and there) They do not need to be like that though and I can’t stand them. I would rather have no one tuff than them. Arrogant Jerks and I hope the Cavs or Lakers spank them in the playoffs. Preferably the Cavs cause taht means they didn’t even make the championship.

We don't need a vocal leader...we have Roy...
what we need is some time to improve on our Defense…which we have since last year and a fearless attitude…AND we need some time for this team to grow…can’t complain about 14-7.

by broyposse on Dec 5, 2008 9:44 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
It's really obvious now,
that we absolutely need a veteran player that knows how to prevail in these tough matchups. Except for Roy we have no other dependable scoring threat or veteran leader. Without that kind of player to complement Roy we may not even make the playoffs no matter how much great young talent is on the roster. Novitzki and Carmelo are not going to hand us the 7th or 8th spots.

Sorry,
but tonights performance is how we play in all the big games. This is really the character of our team. That character won’t change until KP makes changes to the roster. KP’s gonna trade for a great veteran player, that’s just how things are in the NBA. Tim Duncan had David Robinson to share the load; who do we have, Rudy, LA, GO, c’mon man!
by oregonslee on Dec 5, 2008 10:11 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
All the big games?
New Orleans, Detroit, Houston, Orlando, and San Antonio are five pretty nice wins to have at this point in the season. They have struggled with Phoenix, Boston, and LA. Three pretty tough hurdles for everyone in the league, not just Portland. You might be right that they need some veteran toughness, but the season is long and they can grow a lot this year.

I know alot of people don't like
hearing this, but I think the Lakers are the only team that is going to be able to take them out this year. And I pray K*BE tears their heart out! If there is anything worse than the L@kers winning the championship, it’s Boston for me. remeber when you were a kid, and in cartoons(X-Men, Tranformers, Ninja Turttles, ect.) the bad guys would join the good guys for only one episode to battle some “ultimate” evil? Well, this is what it feels like to me….

Second
If there’s one thing I hate more than Kobe it’s the entire Celtics organization. I’ll be a Faker fan come the Finals once more.
PS., Bayless is the tough guy we need. Just develop him slowly and trade Blake/Outlaw/RLEC for a steady vet and we’ll be beating teams like Boston in 2 years.

Bayless is tough. Pryz is tough. Blake is tough. Roy is tough. Dunno about Marty but I think he's probably tough.
LMA is not tough and Oden is not tough and Rudy is not tough and Sergio is not tough and Batum is not tough Frye is a milquetoast fluffer.
Frye needs to be gone.
Rex needs to play and that means Sergio needs to be gone.
This team needs a low post masher that can crash and bash. I want Bass from the Mavs. Somebody like that. There are others, but that guy is underutilized and consequently gettable.
It all seems pretty obvious, but the wheels turn slowly in the NBA.
