You're not allowed to do that....
So with that I say: FIRST
Yeah I have no idea.
Come Out, Come Down, Face Out, Be Gone
Break down, build up again
Here she comes with a hand to lend
Get out of bed just to dive into the night
Torn lips and I feel uptight
Come out, Come down
Fade out,
Be Gone
WORD UP. STAY. FRESCO.
They had a small guard line up with Bayless, Rudy, and Roy
Nate was trying to get a last possession on the break.
Nate needs to give one heck of a half time speech tonight

use "imperfections" by skillet
You fall to your knees
You beg, you plead
Can i be somebody else for all the times i hate myself?
Your failures devour your heart in every hour
You’re drowning in your imperfection

Nate already has messed up pretty bad...
Not bringing Oden back…
Leaving Frye in that long (after his start)…
Trying to press this team early on….
Having players crash the offensive glass and giving up transition points…
Nate… GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME!

Cannot stand watching Kevin Garnett & Paul Pierce's faces play basketball.
I am dead serious. They are both ugly and more importantly, they WILL NOT SHUT UP. They are that annoying-ass guy on the playground who won’t shutup and is not THAT MUCH better than everyone else.
Yeah, the Celtics are good, get over it. Ahh, they piss me off. Sorry, I just had to sound off a little bit….
Even if we lose this game, they still have to visit the Rose Garden and then we’ll see who puts up and who shuts up.
I am pretty sure Kevin Garnett will NEVER shut up, but at least I can hope right?

don't usually comment durin games
but I just have to vent about how badly we’re getting screwed by the refs. yeah yeah, “the celtics are being more physical than us.” well that’s baloney how does a team manage to play more physically yet never be called for any fouls? and KG’s foul on roy was dirty. he should be suspeneded, but we all know there will be no repercussions. they’ll protect their “big 3.” the only consolation is that eventually we won’t even need the refs on ourisde cuz’ we’ll be dominating with SKILL. not with dirty plays or trash talk. props to anybody who reads this whole rant.

Same deal, Blazers being bullied
I don’t understand why someone doesn’t knock KG out, if I was as big as he was my fist would be down his throat.
The refs are pretty bad tonight too, although some of that is Boston being the aggressor. Hope Portland shows some fire the second half.
Blazer Fan
yeah then he can be suspended
so oden can play
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
whatever, who cares
I didnt really think Blazers would win anyways.
Its like LMA thinks that KG wont get in his head, so he shoots those jumpers quicker and plays some D, but he does not rebound. Our team is to young to understand everything, and not think what to do but know exactly what to do and do it on automatic.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

Man its not refs
Blazers dont have the BALLS to stand up to Celts. And as much as I dont like to admit that its true.
We dont have anybody that can create. So they collapse on Roy, and then have perfect rotations.
So thats why we need a point guard
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
It's hard to do that
When every touch gets you a call and anything short of a punch is let go for the other team
Every game
most of fans complain about the refs.
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
I disagree
the Celtics are a much better defensive team. Whenever we try and do what the Celtics do (getting physical), the refs give the Celts the call!
"Smile! You're on a poster!!" - Mike Rice

Ever since the C’s went on their run late in the 2nd half, the Blazers have looked tentative and rattled and frustrated….but not tough

i can count at least
10 points we were robbed of, and at least 5 calls against us, i seriously feel it would have made a difference, might not win us the game but it would have been more competitive and who knows what might have happened
THE BRIGHT SIDE
We were due for a “not ready for primetime game”, the type that keeps ya hungry.
A win woulda been way overblown as “arriving”, when we got a lot more work to do.
This loss should be expected… I just want us to not wilt like this. But, we got more work to do to become as good as we can be… and we ain’t even close to where we’re gonna be.
In other words
I’d rather a meltdown, look horrible losing game happen to the Celtics and not the Wizards.
Oh well
I’ve been invited to a sauna tonight and I thought I might have to skip it so I can watch the game. But looks like I’ll be going to the sauna in a few minutes. This game is lost to us.
Sorry folks. But a few commenters above were totally correct in saying that maybe this loss will do some good for us in the long run.

I love games like this in a way
we know exactly what we need, and exactly what we need to be. We’re not there yet, and we still have pieces that just aren’t here yet.
Blazers need to play all 48 minutes
how else they gonna get prepared for tougher teams and playoffs?
Am I alone at thinking
the Celtics are one broken ankle away from being a team full of Bowens?
If Oden fouls out
They will chant NANANANANA ….
he was supposed to be their guy…
"All our holes," says shooting guard Brandon Roy, a surprise All-Star last year in his second season, "are holes that Greg is going to plug."
A foul out?
Or more jeers?
I think Oden gets his share of jeers already, having him foul out doesn’t help on a night like this.
If he goes in, I’ll be happy though… he needs every minute he can get.

Let's be honest.
Yes, we all hate the Celtics. Yes, they are DBs. Yes, the refs are not giving us the benefit of the doubt. And yes, it’s frustrating to watch.
But the refs didn’t beat us. Neither did Nate’s decisions. The Celtics beat us. They played better defense, grabbed offensive boards at key times, and got under our skin so that we tried to take them one on one. And we played terrible transition D.
I was a little worried about this game with the way Brandon and some of these guys have been talking before (and during) the game, because you could tell they wanted to shove it right down the Cs’ throats. That’s not our game, though. One on one will not get you good looks against this D, and that’s what happened after the first quarter. This is a good example of why this team just needs time to play and learn.
I will say this though…it is VERY hard to play defense as well as Boston unless the refs let you get away with a lot of grabbing, bumping and leaning. We were definitely not given that slack tonight.

I will put points in your face...
exactly
I just wish Frye and Rudy would have shown up tonight, and the refs learn how to be impartial. Oden breathes on a guy and its a foul, Garnett and Perkins whack Roy and there’s no call
"Smile! You're on a poster!!" - Mike Rice
There were some questionable calls...
but we flat out didn’t bring it tonight. Chalk it up as a lesson learned (hopefully) and play tough rest of the game.
I will put points in your face...
I usually avoid game threads 'cause they're too much work to follow most of the time.
Yet, that notwithstanding, I’ve browsed this one tonight ‘cause I’m watching the game — as it’s thankfully on a national cable network — and am interested to see how the Portland Trail Blazers would perform against a legitimately elite ballclub.
Well, it’s obvious that the Trail Blazers have a long way to go before becoming a championship contender.
Aside from that, though, it’s annoying to read people whine about the officiating — which, in my objective opinion, has been fairly even tonight — as well as rag on one of the best analysts in the game, Jeff Van Gundy, rather than correctly place the blame on Nate McMillian’s inability to reign in the mid-range shooting fest, LaMarcus Aldridge’s overall ineptitude, the porous defense at every position except the pivot, et cetera.
Oh well, that’s just my observation.
Can't speak for Van Gundy, as I'm listening to Homer and Homely,
but yeh, other than a couple calls, reffing hasn’t been THAT bad. The game where the dood held Rudy’s jersey at the end was the only game this season I’ve really been upset about in terms of officiating. Tonight was bad, but it wasn’t horrific.
In any case, it’s clear our play is what lost us the game, not calls.
That is really hideous

goes to the Junk Yard Dog himself—Mr. Ruben Patterson.
One game we were up twenty and there was like 10 seconds left. We were dribbling out the clock and someone dished it to Ruben. As the other team walks off the court, Ruben drives in and jams it and then puts his mug right in the camera and is like YAH YAH I’M THE MAN! THE BIG HAIRY MAN!

Hence my comment
Jarryd – you get a cookie for a great effort – even the Nuke LaLoosh alley-oop attempt.
I liked what BRex did tonight. He didn’t show fear. The rest of the Blazers looked like frightened Girl Scouts out there.
I don't think it was a waste
We NEED these sort of games.
A win would be much mroe misleading about what we are… especially if the C’s just didn’t show up.
We ain;t winning the title this year, we need to keep growing… and this proves it to everyone. That’s a good thing.
With the exception of Bayless
Most of the Blazers looked pretty weak out there tonight. Maybe the road trip was catching up to them, but they are too good to be down by almost 30 points.
Who said anything about the title? I just want to put the hurt lock on Kevin ‘D.B.’ Garnett.
No, I would LOVE that
KG is so annoying…
BUT, I also like learning experiences, and this gave us a great one.
LA/Boston > Us. Knowing that, we work on what we need to work on.
How do you 'work on' fear?
We had no confidence out there and were afraid to take it to the hole. A rookie who has more splinters in his butt than anyone else on the team was the only one driving hard.
OK. Sergio had a couple of decent drives into traffic. Everyone else? Meh.
As long as we bounce back
Remembering that you are not where you need to be, and the hard work that entails (and renewed focus), should be a good thing.
I really didn’t think we were scared to start the game, not like in LA or last year against Boston.
We sucked, but didn’t look like scared kids. Just sucky kids.
Except for Shav

"When you want to win a game, you have to teach. When you lose a game, you have to learn." - Tom Landry
Point taken
Shav is so down in the rotation he needs to use a belt sander to towel off his butt after practice.
I mean, obviously I'd rather we win
But you KNOW everyone would be saying we’re an elite team after that win, and we ain’t.
We need to know what we still need to be, and that is tougher, and less jumpers, and more experience. A win woulda’ hid those facts, facts that would surely show up in the playoffs.
I’d always rather lose like this to the best and learn from it, than poof the bed against the Wiz or Thunder.

This team needs more strength down low. Outside of Greg “I can foul” Oden, and Joel, everyone is a softie. I would like to see someone who makes people afraid to go to the basket.
Might work as a free agent acquisition, but doubtful
Timbo liked him in the game yesterday :)
B-Rex for backup
Not in a trade, he costs just over $800,000
Next year he is a restricted free agent. So it comes down to who wants him more
B-Rex for backup
And
How about Bass with Outlaw or Frye’s minutes… as worth it as he seems?
How far below is he from the Maxiell’s and Milsaps? Better served just drafting one of those dudes, since there is a few each draft?
IS Bass a banger or am I just catching him at the right moments?
I think he is a banger but Millsap is better
Bass can dunk it, and he has a workable midrange shot out to maybe 10 or 12 feet. But the Mavs value him as a backup, so like I said he won’t be easy to get and Cuban cares at least as little about money and luxury tax as Allen.
B-Rex bandwagon begins
I seeeeee......
…..hmmmmm….
Well, there’s a PF hustlin’ bangin’ dude every single dang draft.
Not sure how one fits with Joel (Outlaw and Frye’s shooting, when they hit, does fit really well with Joel), and maybe Diogu is at least that good…
I guess I just want more toughness defensively with the 2nd unit, besides Joel. A tough PF could really help, and we know Diogu ain’t a defender.
18 points against the Lakers looks pretty good to me. And he has done it quite some time
Not my #1 choice, but he might be gettable

In September 2005, three months after the Wizards selected him with the 49th overall pick in the NBA draft Blatche was shot in an attempted carjacking that took place early one morning near his home in Alexandria. The bullet pierced his chest and arm, and he appeared in only 29 games as a rookie.
On August 2, 2007, Blatche was charged with sexual solicitation in the Logan Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. after allegedly soliciting sex from an undercover police officer. The solicitation charge was dropped after Blatche followed court orders and attended a day-long seminar for men who solicit prostitutes. 13
Blatche was arrested on June 4, 2008, in Virginia on charges of reckless driving and driving on a suspended license for the third time. Blatche was going 86 mph in a 70 mph zone in a Mercedes on Interstate 85. He was released on bond. 4

The celtics are the most irritating team in the NBA
I was actually rooting for an injury when they put their starters back in.
The only Celtics I don’t hate are Ray Allen and Leon Powe.

TIME TO DIE, TORONTO
We’re going to murder them and go home 4 and 1 on the trip.
4 and 1 is an awesome road trip, no matter who you be (unless you’re playing the Thunder for 5 games).
Boston is really good. I want the Blazers to play a great game next time they play, with intensity through
out the entire game. Bayless needs to get more minutes. I haven’t thought that just because of tonight. I have wanted to see him play way more for some time. I just knew he was not ready, no he seems a lot more adjusted and use to the system.
He actually took some shots tonights because we were down.
Nice to see him off the leash.
The Jinx Effect...a Mike Rice specialty.
Question for bball vets:
How much of our bad defense was us, and how much was things the Celtics were doing to our youngins?
My assessment
Bayless needs to be playing more. If he is at all part of our future. Besides roy he’s the only other guy who can consistantly drive to the basket. I also like his attitude. He might be cocky but I think some confidence is a good thing. Nate should of started him against Rondo since he’s the only guy fast enough to stay with him.
The refs need to start calling all the fouls that teams are getting on Greg. It’s a joke, especially that last one.
KP needs to make a trade to improve our defense. Too many soft offensive players at the same position.
KG is such an ass
Too bad the Detroit badboys are no longer around. His pencil neck would not last more than 2 min. in the game against them. Ah I want to hurt him so bad.

Why didnt Joel or Oden clock KG??
You can’t let him get that cheap shot on Roy and then act like its OK. The thing that annoys me about this game is that nobody came after KG after he almost injured our franchise player on a very dirty play. We need to respond big time to that and we didnt. Clock that SOB in the face with an Oden elbow.

…KG recognizes Bayless as a threat, psychologically. So he has to go in as the aggressor to establish the pecking order.
so why is our alpha always on the bench?
And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
He's a rook!
And Sergio has played well most nights. You certainly can’t argue against that fact…
It’s a numbers crunch, but Bayless will ultimately rise to the top over time if he really is that good.

Celtics ball movement was good at times, but that was usually opened up by poor rotations and our perimiter defense seemed to disregard the fact that Rondo is faster than any Blazer.

If he just a bit tougher on defense...
…and not so slow, and not prone to SO MANY DUMB MISTAKES (like, really really low BBIQ mistakes), his spread-the-floor jump shooting fits with Joel in the 2nd unit. As does Trout’s.
Right now, I prefer Trout at PF, and Frye fighting for minutes again.
I today compared Trouts upside to a less explosive Josh Smith with a much better outside shot

Even though he's smaller
I think he is a better PF than Frye, so I agree with ya.
Yeah, he’s like a poor man’s Gerald Wallace or Josh Smith, with a much better jumper and a lot less penetration with the ball.
I say he’s equal in rebounding to Frye, but the numbers might prove me wrong. He forgets to box people out all the time, and I’m not sure with Outlaw which problems are solveable with experience and which are just Outlaw being Outlaw and won’t go away… certainly a lot of his problems are of that nature.
As a 15-20 minute PF backup who gives the enemy match up problems and more minutes if he has it going, I think Outlaw gives us a lot more than Frye AND gives us more as a PF than as a SF, where he causes no match up problems.
Plus, playing him at PF means he doesn’t handle the ball at all, which he is horrible at, and puts him (be default) in rebounding position and he isn’t as likely to forget to jump as he is as a SF.
I don’t think Trout will ever, ever get the most out of his athleticism because he isn’t a very focused dude, nor a guy who works in the offseason, but he can do what he do and as long that’s what you expect and what you’re looking for he can really help you.
Just not a starter, nor a guy you can rely on.
I prefer him as a PF.
yeh no question
Outlaw > Frye
But it’s what gets us the most value. If we can move Outlaw for a BIG piece than I guess you gotta’ do it.
I dunno, I’m not a big trade guy myself, so I’m not going to worry about it too much.
That is really hideous
--jscot
I'd move either one and be ok with it
I feel more emotionally attached to Outlaw because of how long he has been a Blazer and because he’s such an innocent and nice kid, but scoring is the EASIEST thing to get in the NBA and it is pretty much all he does.
I would trade either in a move that helps us and have no problems with it.
Who gets the shaft once Marty is back?
I say it’ll be Frye. Outlaw moves back to PF, and plays less unless he has a similar bounce back like last season.
Verdict
It could have been worse tonight. A LOT worse.
Down the stretch, we made them put their starters back in to seal it. Moral victory there. Oh joy.
Seriously, though, they are the champs, and they showed why tonight. Hopefully, we can learn a lot from the film of this game. This should also be motivation for our guys not to get complacent, and, as Nate says, to “stay hungry”.
In the meantime, we’re still first the in NW division, and 2nd overall in the west. A win in Toronto gives us a 4-1 road trip, a winning road record on the season, and the hope of brighter days ahead. If our team can learn to play team defense the way Boston did tonight… (and to get back on transition D) Oh man, look out for the Blazers in the years ahead!
Write-in Rudy for All-Star 2009!
That's what I'm sayin'!
This loss was totally predictable, and we should hope we turn it into a positive by seeing what we need to be more like.

Played two great teams
And had two stink bombs. Let’s see how we fare against Cleveland. I will take us against the other 26 teams though. Just no legs whatsoever and you need those against great defensive teams. Plus no effort. When you see the Celtics just bust out on double teams and bust out on three point shooters and compare that to our effort it isn’t even a contest. That’s the only thing we should take from this game. Effort on defense.
"I saw him in the face" Sergio's quote on the latest alley-oop to Rudy.
can anyone please.....
give me a decent reason why when we cut the insurmountable lead to 11…..that we did not put out starters back in to try to seal the deal?….Boston did..with the lead..what gives?
i would call timeout at that moment..and say here we are guys..who wants to go in..who is willing to step up and take this freaking game to the mat? all-in, no bluffs, heads up ball?…….er..maybe he did and got no response.
Maybe punishment
They couldn’t get it done in the normal part of the game, the bench/scrubs brought us within screaming distance, let ’em do what they can do and not take them out and reward the starters for playing awful.
My take as well
Not punishment but a message – go hard or go back to the bench.

We weren’t winning this one, at that point, sorry to say. We had our best performing guys of the night out there (as Nate always does), and they just beat us. No shame in that. They’re the champs. Give them their props tonight.

dang at that point, as you say, we should have regrouped, 5 minutes should have been enough time to at least start competing again.
Keep working Greg, you're getting better and looking better. Everyone played bad.
Greg is slowing improving. Keeping the ball close to his body and pump faking. He blocked a very difficult to get shot by Ray ray that took a lot of hops to get to. I’m happy with Oden’s play so far.
Hey all
Anyone up for a quickie recap? I can tell from the grousing how the game went, but I’m curious about getting a little minutiae. I couldn’t watch tonight and checked the score before playing it off the dvr.
We kept it close...we were up 36-35 at one point
then things fell apart. Channing played terrible (and I mean TERRIBLE), Roy had some bad bounces, refs missed a few calls, and BOOM! We’re down big going into the half and we start out suckish. We end up going over 7 straight minutes without a point.

Garnett was being Garnett
Really grinding Big Baby up. So baby left the huddle and sat at the end of the bench and cried.

Garnett is a jerk off...there is no doubt.
….but a grown millionaire crying…. is just….laughable. Suck it up…
He stepped outside of some line that KG apparently drew
Didn’t like his effort or something. That’s what happens when you think outside the box in Boston :)
B-Rex bandwagon begins
I swear, I posted mine first! Nothing else was here!
and then I come back 20 minutes later and you’ve swiped it. Talk about ridiculous.
That is really hideous

Blazer's Edge - by Blazer fans, for Blazer fans
BBFFBF - Not quite as marketable as FUBU
It sucked hard
But it’s only one road game vs the defending champs. We’re obviously not there yet, but we’re on our way.
People call me the Bry man; I'm the stylish one of the group. I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater. You ladies play your cards right you just might get to meet the whole gang.
WTF!
I’ve calmed down now….was at the game…..we gave up with about 6 minutes remaining. OK, I understand Bayless, but WTF…..Frye is seriously in the game and were down by only 11 with 6 minutes left! Put Roy, Mr. 4th quarter, back in the game! He barely played the 4th! And LA was having the only decent game
