Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Celtics

PrintOK...my game day rituals are complete. I have worn nothing with Boston colors in it. I have praised every red light I've run into and cursed the green. I have worked out as hard as I possibly can and not even thought of giving up for one second while exercising. The butterflies are going in my stomach. I have a laser-eyed focus. All other thoughts are banished. I am prepared. As we speak the coaches are huddled with the team in the depths of the arena, giving the team their last-minute rundown. Let's hope they're prepared too.
This is the biggest game the Blazers have played since opening night. Enjoy the game and the conversation!

I know the world champs are a tough pill to swallow but I have a really good feeling about this one

yup
the thing that is hard is there is a lot of hype around it. which plays way into boston’s favor. But that’s the beauty of it. The Blazers desperately need this kind of experience.

I have always loved Garnett, and I still do. Especially with all the recent Lebron controversy. Garnett’s experience in Minnie shows loyalty, which is all a fan could ask for.
Oh yeah… and he is awesome. There is not one team in the NBA wouldn’t get better with him. He has a big personality, but a jerk? I don’t see it.

Tends to predict victories… plus with how the clean up goes.
I wish I was kidding.
Today went well, it was a professional walk. I think it will be a very tough game, and if we wilt in the toughness and pressure of the Celtics, let’s try not to go overboard. We weren’t supposed to be 14 and 6, and we ain’t ‘sposed to be a championship contender. Losing to the Celtics at home (which everyone does) doesn’t change what we are— a very, very good young team with the brightest future in the league.
The Pacers are the only team to beat the Lakers AND Celtics, and they aren’t gonna do anything. A win will be FANTASTIC, but not the end all be all either. Just a good one, and we still got a lot of work left.
Win or lose, we got work to do.
I think it’ll be a great game with many fascinating story lines for the average fan, and I hope we show up when the lights are on against a top team, and we don’t have a repeat of LA opening night.
And if we do… well, we knew we had work to do. No matter what, we got a lotta games left.

Watch the fan...He brought up that "reporters" think he is soft. Aldridge was saying he doesn't
care what people think and that he is all about winning. Good response in my opinion. It was insulting.

I don’t get the channel, I live in LA. I get League Pass and am watching the ESPN pre-game show.
(The game is on ESPN tonight, in 11 minutes).

I really never liked Big Suke and the other guy, their interviews were prrreeeeetttty bad. I only listened on their podcasts when it was a basketball themed podcast, but I ain’t listened for a long time.

Trying to setup my post game frame of mind
For the most part, I’ve been inuring myself to the unpleasant sentiment that Blazers are going to be beat this game, and probably beat badly. Preparing myself for the disappointment, and the acceptance, that we’ve still got a long way to go.
Still there’s a small part of me that is hoping, (nay wishing) that we make a fight of it. You know maybe KG throws a dirty move at someone on the Blazers and Greg Oden takes objection — a sleeping giant awakens. Seeing Greg turn into a monster would be well worth the price of a loss. Wouldn’t even mind if a fight breaks out and a Blazer gets ejected. We could still hold our heads up high.
Ah well, game time. Lets see what materializes.

BUT, he has earned it. He’s awesome and we’d love him if he was a Blazer.
The most annoying to me is Kendrick Perkins, who acts like a big man now that his team is good. He leads the league in T’s also… he’s not nearly good enough to have such a big mouth.

Oden will get nervous but at the same time he NEEDS to go through these moments… get them over with.
I don’t like delaying it, since he’ll always be nervous at important debuts. Once these moments are normalized for him, he’ll prolly be better.

outstanding so far
finding open shots, being aggressive inside (Roy dunk was a big statement!), but oh the DEFENSE! Oden on Perkins was awesome, and LaMarcus had a great sequence too. 5 TO already for Boston.
My only worry was they’d come out flat and play from behind the whole game. They may yet fall behind, but not from the jump. They look great so far.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.
We should complain more
Gaming the refs is what good teams do.
But no amount of gaming the refs woulda’ made up for how badly we finished that quarter.

and like 3 of those were in the penalty, so they got 5 or 6 points out of it.. refs are hurting us.
also these espn announcers are annoying.

I'm sorry but
Oden getting only 6 minutes when its against this tough Celtics team is total garbage. Cmon Nate… also leaving Frye in after that terrible start. Also, trying to put on a press versus this team.

Nate saved Oden’s fouls, He had 2, woulda’ got a 3rd almost surely.
Now he’s got 4 to use in the second half. It might turn into a smart move if the rest of the team stays in the game.

I’d like to check the rule book on that one. What is wrong with a player leaving his feet and then putting the ball on the floor, and then going back up for a shot?
Rules experts, please tell us. Was that a travel?

but the refs did and it was a 5 point swing against us, makes a big difference
