Seriously?
Ok, so I posted before about being classy and staying off of other teams blogs and gloating after a win. I think we can all agree it shows a lack of class and horribly misrepresents this team and its fans. I never mentioned anyone specific but kept it more as a generality. But after tonight, I am disgusted, and ready to call out names. Da34Shadow for some reason felt the need to go over to the celtics blog and post, "Who's barking now" and taunt Garnett. While I may agree, just think if laker fans came and posted FANPOSTS on our site about how roy is overrated or any other taunting. I just cant believe this stupidity. Taunting other teams for injuries or simply us beating them needs to stop. Do we need any more bad Karma???

we shouldn't even tolerate this anymore
i think anyone who represents blazer nation should hold themselves to a higher standard. i’m tired of people doing this on other blogs and when other teams do it to us. as a whole this is a classy group, and it’d suck to have a few people represent us in such a negative manner. i wouldnt have a problem with just banning them altogether. people have been given sufficient warnings already. if we are going “police” our players for what they do off the court, we should also “police” other fans so that they don’t act disrespectfully.

The best way to stop this is
to not do it.
Trying to ban people who don’t act, or talk or express themselves the way you would like is not really what these communities are about. I’m not saying that BE or any other sports blog is about making stupid posts like the ones referenced, but at some point will people around here just chill out and ignore this stuff? It’s like half of this blog is only concerned with how we are perceived by other teams’ fans. Anyone that’s spent time on this site knows that 99% of the content is DB-free, so let’s not all act like we’re everyone’s mom.
This is getting as old as the posts that prompted it in the first place.

well
by not doing anything at all then this site will probably go the way of Oregon Live. This site is only as good as it is bc Dave has done an awesome job at creating a positive community. BE has grown so much over the past year that I’m sure its a little overwhelming for even Dave to control.

I disagree
O-Live is a completely different entity. The fans have no control over the content on the blogs or news beats, and the forums are set up differently than the way a blog like this is organized.
While I agree that Dave sets a great example, and the rules for posting here keep things positive and clean, at the same time I’m just not into curbing people’s expression because it embarrasses you. You (or anyone else) might express opinions in plenty of ways that i don’t like (which does happen here all the time), but that doesn’t mean those people should be stopped from expressing themselves. What brings everyone to BE is a passion for the Blazers, not a desire to talk or act the same.

i was referring to the forums not the content of the blogs
If you look at the message boards and forums of other sites…like olive, iamatrailblazersfan, espn, you have a ton of people who just troll, attack others, and make below the belt comments. posting at those sites just aren’t as fun bc you don’t get the quality of posts you get here, you just get personal attacks there.

Oh and dont' EVEN get me started on the comment threads . . .
. . . for the political posts at washingtonpost.com!
Such good writing from their political team . . . and the comments are just the worst trolling imaginable.
Disgusting.

karma
the best reason to not gloat about beating the celtics is because they and not the blazers are the champs now and far more likely to be champs than us this year.. accept the win for what it is.. we played well..
i’m not embarrassed at all (police fans?! really? who the hell cares about dumb fans) by these actions though.. people need to stop taking this stuff so seriously.. trash talk is good for everyone as long as we are all grownups who realize we are talking about a game (not talking about practice)

if any of our guys got down and started barking at laker players
I think it would be ok for laker fans to bring it up here. I would say that the majority of the comments by blazer fans posted over there were positive or at least in the form of “kg is a jerk but you guys are a great team who are the defending champs and we’re all just happy to pull out a tough win”
kg IS a jerk, nothing new there. there was some negative stuff going on but mostly because their guys were pouring gasoline on it.
The Blazers as a whole are far more like my wife than like me in the sense of their physicality on defense.

I didn't catch the posted fan shot
but again, if our guys behaved like KG, I think we’d have to accept the idea that its gonna rub people the wrong way and on a fan site where people are free to express their thoughts and opinions, stuffs gonna come up.

I think I've erased like three comments so far
When’s the last time we got trolled in a post-game loss thread?
And how many times have Portland fans trolled other forums after big wins?
I fear the fans who “visit” other teams’ gameday threads really have given Portland fans a poor reputation. And they don’t even seem to care, because it’s all about “being fans” somehow, and it’s all fun to them.

thanks for the thread
i stopped going to espn boards because of so much trolling and just plain stupid prodding. i dont see other fans here often and when i do its usually real contributions.
with that said i think we have fanposts here that allow us to gloat and be crazy homer fans on our own site that should suffice.

Agreed.
There’s no point going over there to gloat. Every fanbase is full of homers, even the ones who claim they aren’t.
If Celtics fans want to claim is was LMA who was throwing the cheap shots and not Garnett let them, if they want to complain about one bad (although obvious) call, or lack of then let them despite the countless calls they got.
It’s their blog, leave them be. None of you would like it if after the loss this place was swarmed by Celtic fans rubbing it in. These places are meant to be for discussion, not idiot trolling and team/fanbase bashing.

Disappointed but not disgusted.
I think anybody who comes to this site (troll or otherwise) can see instantly that BE is a great place, and that we do a good job of policing our own, due to posts like this.
But I also have to say….
When KG barked like a dog, I posted on this site only, "what’s KG going to do next lift his leg".
I thought long and hard before I posted that comment even here – but that’s the way KG makes me feel – I don’t like him. I can see how KG can get under someone’s skin.
But generally speaking I agree with your post. We need to show the rest of the blog world why Blazers Edge is the best – it’s the best because we have a loyal and respectful fan base.
I got over it a long time ago, Da34Shadow needs to get over it.
If we want to go to some other site, we should critique, analyze, and discuss respectfully in the same manner we do here.
However: I say all this w/o having seen the actual post. One comment (even his) in a cetain context could be rude, irritating, annoying, while the same comment in another context might be humorous, or in harmony with the discussion, or even add to the dialogue.
In spirit I agree 100% with what you said and am disgusted with some of the garbage posted above on this thread.
And while I’m at it, what is the flag when you click on actions. Is that to highlight objectionalble comments? I’m still somewhat new.

I went over there and his whole fanpost was
Portland’s win against the C’s demonstrated one truth that I live by: Treat others with respect. For years, Garnett has played a brand of intense basketball that no one can rival. However, this year he has gotten a little too cocky. That barking incident with Bayless stands out in my mind because Garnett crossed the line of intensity and ventured into the area of insanity reserved soley for Rodman. Yes, the C’s feed off of his intesity, but stupid plays like that give opponents a reason to beat you like a rag doll. Simply put, Garnett has sacrificed a couple wins this year by his behavior. At some point, he needs to tone it down and revert to the championship player he should be.
I really didn’t find that offensive. I wouldn’t be ticked if someone did something similar to us after they beat us.

The guy has never posted there before
He signed up only to post that.
Garnett has sacrificed a couple wins this year by his behavior? Really? Which ones?
Really, what is the point of going somewhere else to post that, right after you’ve beat them? Isn’t it to rub it in their face?
Sorry, but I actually don’t think the Blazers wanted this anymore because of the KG barking thing. They wanted it because they got their rear ends kicked in Boston. The KG barking thing was classless and ugly, but going back and throwing it in their faces right after we beat them is only inflammatory.

Even though I wouldn’t go over there and post something like that…
I’m trying to cut a little slack here, maybe cause I’m still a little new here, or maybe ‘cause KG gets under my skin to the 10th degree, I don’t know. But I certainly can understand the way some feel about KG. KG’s on my hate list, he just rubs me the wrong way. There are a lot of totally arrogant players I don’t like, but they’re not on that list.
But yeah, I doubt if even Bayless was thinking about the barking dog. They were thinking about getting business done tonight…and they did.
When I read the intro to this post I thought the worst – I now feel obliged to back away from those feelings, maybe not completely, but certainly mostly.

I posted this twice before so I hate coming back for 3rds,
but my issue with KG is not the elbows in the heat of battle (the Blazers might be finally learning what it is to be tough). A lot of Boston’s greatness is that they’re tough, really tough, and KG brings it every night – he’s tough and he’s good, I don’t mind that at all.
It was last year when play was stopped, KG nonchalantly passing by Blake suddenly elbows him hard in the gut. Blake had no idea what was coming, had no idea he needed to protect himself.
It was totally sick in a bad way, and so far he’s done nothing since that to get off my hate list.
The barking like a dog at Bayless just proves he hasn’t changed.
But I did think he seemed a little more humble (if I can use that word) last night. And I give that credit to the hard-hitting ball the Blazers were playing.
