Biggest Win of the Season?

The Blazers showed some real grit and determination out on the court tonight.  They didn't back down from the physical defending champs and won a close game without Brandon Roy.  We started 3 rookies, played completely new lineups including what will (IMO) soon become a fan favorite:  Oden and Przybilla at the same time.

The Houson win was spectacular.  Beating teams like the Spurs, Hornets and Magic tell you that this team can hang with the elites, but a win like this is a playoff caliber win.

Dave has spoken about great teams shutting down our Plan A, well our plan A wasn't even in uniform tonight and we got the win.  This will be a huge confidence booster.  We already know Brandon Roy can take over in the 4th quarter and win games, but now everyone else on that team knows that they can win in different ways.  Big props to everyone on that court tonight.

Sergio with some clutch freethrows, he went up to the line and sunk those like he's been hitting them for years.

Oden giving us back to back solid performances.  And did anyone see him getting fired up out there?  And laughing about the 6 men on the court call?  I love seeing that emotion from him.  This could be a turning point for him.  Also, consider that just yesterday he rolled an ankle in practice and got x-rays.  To go from maybe missing the game with yet another injury to putting up a solid stat line with GREAT effort is just amazing.

Outlaw had some really nice offensive boards.  He wasn't just settling for his one dribble jumper.  He attacted the rim.  I can live with the occasional bad play if Travis plays with that kind of energy and if he attacks the rim like that.

Blake was dynamite on offense.  He just wouldn't let us fall behind early in the game.  Blake for 3!!!!!!

I know there's a lot more, but I think we all just need a place to talk about this great win.

By far

this was the highlight of the young year. Unbelievable win, GO, LMA, Blake, all of them were huge tonight. I saw a fire in GO that hadn’t been there yet, the Celtics were SCARED of the big man in the middle. Blake kept the team in the game in the first half, Aldridge closed the show, and B Rex will kill you if you look at him funny. Unreal

before the second half on the blazers network

it showed everyone’s reaction to fielding 6 men, and they were all displaying the funniest grins, like 6 dudes in a row, even Nate! With that coy finger beckoning Oden, about to bust out laughing, coach monty, even Paul Pierce. I almost fell off my barstool.

Is Brandon Roy Patrick Ewing?

Yeah and beat them at their own game!

I loved how physical the zers were tonight, it was exactly what they needed to do. I’m not advocating them playing cheap, and as much as I’d like to see kg get popped in the grill, I wouldn’t want it to happen from one of our players(I’m okay with the incidental contact ala rudy though!)This game was by far the biggest roller coaster to watch, considering the first quarters incredibly low score. I was struggling to watch it and was very worried that this was going to be a huge setback to the recently fragile psyche of this young team. But I am so glad I forced myself to watch. Being an optimist pays off. This game was won with pure grit and maturity, and I think it is going to be a huge boost to this team. The blazers beat the c’s, the refs, and all the doubters who have been dogging this team. But even more importantly they beat their own self-doubt and learned that it doesn’t matter who is on the court. It’s still basketball. And they know how to play!!!!!!!!

Set a new standard for himself in the last two games. His chat with Nate has seemed effective. I love his new attitude and the fire! It’s G.O. time!!

yes

the last two have been so fun to watch because of oden, and our defensive presence. Maybe the Mavs loss on Chirstmas was what this team needed (in addition to resting brandon, who deserves it for being on 95 percent of the time)?

how did Martell "give it right back to KG"?

Martell wasn’t even on the court. Do you mean in terms of trash talking? I didn’t know Martell was flapping his gums. But if he was good on him. And I’m glad we put a stop to the KG gum flapping just by winning this game. That dude is such a gum flapper he oughta sell dentures in the off season.

The question we should really ponder is not why al-Zeidi could be so impolite as to throw his shoes at Bush, but why the dozens of other shoes in the room remained on people's feet, why no foot odor ever purifies the air at a White House press conference, why a man who throws his shoes at our president is more popular than our president himself.

How is it possible for this team ...

to keep surprising us? I’m sure tons of us were hoping for a win tonight, but I doubt any of us expected this. Just when I thought I had this team figured out, they show me something new. And I LOVE the way we won down the stretch. We got a bucket EVERY time we needed one. Once we got down to the final couple of minutes, I half-expected us to wilt under pressure, but we kept our heads up. Amazing win. This is one of thost wins that will keep me satisfied for a couple weeks, even if we drop a couple of the toughies we have coming up.

agreed

i was ready to accept a moral victory and waited for us to choke…i know they are just free throws, but sergios free throws under pressure were so money…esp with Rudy missing two earlier tonight. no one really played “perfect” ball but everyone contributed one way or another. trouts dunk over garnett behind the baseline where he contorted his body like a yoga guru was effing awesome.

the refs are being a little less critical

I think he’s getting less ticky-tack fouls called and being able to develop a rhythm. That’s all he’s needed. Time on the court. BTW I can’t wait to hear the msp tomorrow. They were back on the haterade this morning, and now they’ll have to eat crow again!!!!! If there’s one good thing about Oden’s recent spate of lame calls I think that it has really made him pay attention, and adjust to nba ball. His arms are straight up a lot more in the last couple games, and he is gaining confidence. His story is long from being written and we are all going to witness his coming of age. He will be a destroyer!!!!!

MSP is annoying...

Gavin Dawson is the same guy that said after Brandon’s Rookie of the Year season that what we saw that year WAS HIS CEILING…

I know he’s a huge blazer fan but to pretend and use the overuse line of “I’m just giving you the honest truth that GO will just be a good player and after 20 games, we know what we know…”

Sounds like Colin Jr.

Seriously Gavin, be a real fan and don’t pretend you are giving us "honest’ opinion when it’s your producer telling you what to do.

i also am in the same boat

that didn’t think brandon’s ceiling would be this high. i didn’t think he’d be an all star in year 2, or a pseudo superstar in year 3, maybe he can be a bonafide superstar in year 4.

yeah agree...

but hearing them say, “you just don’t want to hear the honest truth…”

that statement is so overused by radio personalities that it’s basically a lie..especially knowing how much a fan Gavin is…

No way you can call any rookie of the year, that their ROY campaign is a ceiling…much less say GO after 20 games is what we should expect since he should be 95% back from MF surgery…

it’s so absurd don’t you think? making the statement “i’m just giving you the truth about his ceiling and you don’t want to listen and in denial” That’s just flat out dishonest esp if you don’t believe in your own opinions.

for me

theres nothing wrong with them thinking that if they truly feel that way…but if they are called out on it later and deny it or say (no this is what i said…) then i sorta have a problem with it. they are just doing their job…and that is to generate interest and conversation on the air. by getting you to talk about the show or topic they are doing their job.

Dave knows waaaaaay more about the intricacies of basketball, and i trust his filter(ie. charictor) waaay more then any of the other sources posible. Dave also has the best suporting cast in Ben(this has been a breakout year for the young blogger) and arguably the most knowledgable comunity in basketball. This is it. everything else is second rate as far as im concerned. sure Ben(Dave) duznt get the same exzakt access to the team as some of the others, but anything meaningful is covered right hear, by Dave, Ben, or the comunity in general. That's been my prediction as well

I don’t think I’ve said it out loud at Blazers Edge, but I tell my friends and family that all the time— this Blazers team, with Roy/Oden/LMA/Rudy/Bayless/Batum/etc, will challenge the 72 win season seriously and if healthy break it.

It’s way early, but we’re good and just scratching the surface.

Ya gotta have a LOT go your way to get there, but I think we got the talent and the clutchness to do it. We just need time.

Not to make TOO bold of a prediction for your favorite team even if your heart SCREAMS it to be true, because then your team will know it doesn’t have to work for your approval and they can get the milk for free.

Or something like that.

Once we’re properly married and in the playoffs for a few years and Oden is Oden and he and LMA and Roy know each other like the back of their hand, THEN I’ll allow them to know of my yearning in my soul for 73 wins.

Lots of "IFs" involved, my friend...

IF the Blazers can land a back up 4 (through the draft or through trade or through free agency) who if not David Lee can do the things David Lee can do — which is rebound like a beastie and score the ball low…

IF Brandon Roy can stay healthy…

IF Greg Oden can progress from his limited offensive skill-set…

IF LMA can learn that the key to everything is getting himself low and turning difficult 18 foot sorts into easy 4 footers…

If Marty can come back healthy and return to form with having a Walton foot for the rest of his life…

IF Rex turns out to be what we think he could be not something else…

IF Nic learns to get aggressive and hungry on the offensive end and stops playing “shy”…

IF nobody gets too greedy or acts too stupidly after they are wildly rich…

IF these guys can ever figure out how to run a fast break properly 5 times out of 5 instead of 1 time out of 5…

IF Nate stops trying to overthink things and reinvent the wheel against teams trying to compensate for their own inadequacies by going small against Portland…

There are about 25 more IFs, I’m sure. You get the point…

On offense, one would set a screen, and the other would stay in post position. On defense, they could clear either Oden or Pryzbilla out of the middle, but not both. And when one of them went out on a shooter, the other was able to stay home for the board. I was lovin’ it. Hope they both stay out of foul trouble more often.

I don't think they have snow in the summer in Minnesota

But they had a political convention there last summer.

The question we should really ponder is not why al-Zeidi could be so impolite as to throw his shoes at Bush, but why the dozens of other shoes in the room remained on people's feet, why no foot odor ever purifies the air at a White House press conference, why a man who throws his shoes at our president is more popular than our president himself.

doesnt matter the defense is what that lineup is most useful with and on offense the

2 guards and Travis can all shoot Cant leave Oden or Przy alone down low it’s very effective not all the time but especially when Nate did that it was perfect timing.

Greg is quick like a cat.

We’ve only just begun to see the real Oden. I remember seeing his last few college games – he was raw then too. In one game a hard double-team came on him under the basket, he leaned toward the basket kind of splitting the double-team reached out over the end line and flipped a pass to a wide open 3-point shooter, it was a thing of beauty.

Then all preseason I had to listen to Mike Barrett (even tho I like the guy), a whole bunch of other commentators, a whole lot of blogging, on whether GO could pass.
Did you see those passes tonight, and how about that riffle shot which he received that just stuck to those soft hands.

I’ve been telling everybody ‘round the lunch table – this guy has the tools – you gotta be patient.

Bayless...

Didn’t score much, had some turnovers, had some shots rim out…

But I love love love what I see. Kid’s got a gear very few guys have. Maybe a handful of guys in the league get to the rim that quick from a standstill. Even less of those guys have those kinda hops and that sorta strength.

His EDGE is something the team really needs out there. Roy’s the superstar, but he’s not that kind of leader. Bayless’s intensity is contagious. Naturally reserved guys like LMA and Greg FEED off that.

He let out a roar after dropping that dime to LMA on the break that shook my television…

You know how the crowd gets the team pumped up and that energy translates to wins? Teammates getting other guys pumped up can have the same effect. Gotta find him some minutes.

Y'all overrate "edge," "energy," "intensity," and all that jazz.

From Jerryd Bayless, I still see a guy who’s stylisitically incapable of playing point guard.

In my book, four turnovers in just over 16 minutes of playing time isn’t something to brush to the wayside. Rather, it’s further proof to me that Bayless is nothing more than a diminutive shooting guard who, sadly for him, will have a strenuous time finding his place in a league wherein size is of the utmost importance.

by AK1984 on Dec 31, 2008 12:17 AM PST up reply actions

Oh, that's a good point. I should've gone into further detail with that remark.

My point was that a lack of size is problematic when someone plays out of position.

The NBA is a difficult place for combo guards, which aptly describes Jerryd Bayless.

by AK1984 on Dec 31, 2008 12:30 AM PST up reply actions

are you sure?

Jerryd may never be a true point, but thats not why we drafted him. His role was never to be a distributor. He is a combo guard yes, but his strengths on paper were to compliment Brandon’s deficiencies (guarding quicker pgs mainly). There have been a ton of combo guards with good success in the NBA…Barbosa, Ellis, Terry, Arenas, AI?

Honor Terry Porter

by Philthyanimal on Dec 31, 2008 12:35 AM PST up reply actions

The lesson isn't "no rings"

The lesson is “don’t make them the focal point of your everything”, even if they are as talented as AI and Arenas (at least pre-lotsa-injuries).

You aren’t likely to win with a shoot-first combo guard as your best player, which I heartily agree with. The reason why having a guy like that COULD work for the Blazers is because he WON’T be the focal point— the more time tested “proven” Championship caliber sort of players like the Traditional Big Man (Oden) and Multi-talented Wing Scorer/Playmaker (Roy) will be the focal points.

And then you add the “good, but not gonna win a championship on their own” type guys like LMA and Bayless, and they’re the straw the breaks the camel’s hymen.

I still think Bayless will be Monta with a brain.

are incredible.

meaning, that I don’t believe them.

The way you have Bayless completely figured out, after 60 minutes of playing time all season, coming in 3-minute dosages, is laughable.

Meanwhile, Outlaw was the one player on the team who played any kind of defense on Pierce, and his dunk in KG’s grill was an inspirational thing of beauty.

One play isn't indicative of a player's overall performance over a long ...

period of time, although I’m sure you’ve heard of this concept called small sample size.

Throughout Travis Outlaw’s 316-game career, he has an extensive track record of “putrid defense, fear of crashing the glass, and lack of an inside game,” while Jerryd Bayless’ performance both in college and thus far in the NBA shows that he’s a ball hogging, turnover prone shooting guard who plays mediocre defense.

ok, having not seen any of his post since he "returned"...

i’m guessing Oden is no where near as good as half of us claim and never will be. Period.

Houston is still the best team in the history of the world (they’re just injured). Book it.

Its FACT that Steve Blake is not capable of runnning a championship team.

and…. Travis Outlaw and Martell Webster are both scrubs and will NEVER amount to anything.

Now I don’t believe any of these things, so don’t read this and think i’m going all AK47 on the Blazers.

I suddenly became aware of something I missed in that "negativity" post

and even though I like to see my buddy Shav play the 4 for ya, sometimesTrav at the 4 work’s for the Blazers… in short bursts and only if he shows the fire we now seen he can in gettin some putback points and moves to the rim

This is a team of many potential faces…we need to stop thinking in squads but instead how to exploit matchups…

and each of these players – - read PEOPLE – - are works in process…just like us all I would hope…

Y'know, that's actually one way of "looking at the big picture."

In the grand scheme of things, Jerryd Bayless isn’t a point guard. Bayless didn’t even play point guard against the Boston Celtics last night; he was Rudy Fernandez’s backup at shooting guard.

by AK1984 on Dec 31, 2008 12:20 AM PST up reply actions

true...

but i’m not arguing if he’s a point guard…just give him time to play. it’s like measuring Oden after 20 games and a year off from MF surgery.

i still have a lot of concerns that you pointed out, but wanted to avoid it for one day of celebration.

Keep B-Rex's turnovers in perspective...

First extended playing time of the season, playing at home in front of an amped up crowd against the defending champions and still currently a top 3 team in the league, a team who is still tops in all of the NBA in steals and forcing turnovers.

All things considered, 4 turnovers is bad, but not necessarily indicative of a trend.

He didn't say

“pass first”. We don’t want him to be a pure PG. We want a scoring threat who brings the ball up court, plays the 2 on offense when Roy is running the offense, can play Brandon’s role when Rudy comes in for Roy, and who can defend opposing PGs.

Tony Parker with better defense. OK, maybe he’ll never be anywhere near the offensive threat that Parker is, but similar style on offense.

i guess combo guard

would have been the more accurate term then. 2 on offense 1 on defense.

Honor Terry Porter

by Philthyanimal on Jan 1, 2009 11:58 AM PST up reply actions

Combo on offense

1 on defense.

Roy is neither a true PG or SG on offense, he’s a play-making SG. Blake, while a true PG in many respects, often plays like a 2 on offense — a spot up shooter, not the typical role of a true PG. But not always, often he runs the point, too.

Bayless should be able to learn to do that as well as Blake. And while he may make a few more mistakes than Steve for several years, and may take a while to be (in fact, may never be) as good a 3 point shot as Blake has become, he brings athleticism and the ability to drive to the hoop that Blake lacks. When that opening is there, Blake might spot up and nail the open J, but Bayless might take it right to the hoop and dunk it/draw fouls/dish to a big man when the D rotates, etc.

He’ll not really be a true 2 or true 1 on offense, there will be elements of both in his game. Because that is the ideal player to play next to Roy, and they are building his game from the ground up to become that.

honestly you could be right

I think down the stretch we would have not necessarily been better off if the team moved into total Roy against the world mode. We needed to focus on points in the paint and such. I think we got a lot more hustle out the guys trying to win one for their fallen leader.

It was an improbable win as it was.. part of the celtics defense revolves around taking number one options away but the blazers really shared the scoring more.. where a couple of guys had to pick up that slack – especially because Rudy was also limited offensively. We established a great big presence and sometimes Roy’s biggest strengths make it tougher to utilize the bigs down the stretch.

Please don't hate me but..

Isn’t that an attention grabbing way to start…?

Anyway, it drove me crazy at times early in the season when Roy iso’s were all the 4th quarter had to offer…when the team stood around and watched …‘cause other teams knew that the whole O was let’s see Brandon go…1 on 5? sometimes it felt that way…It has been slowly improving, AND yes sometimes Brandon is UNSTOPPABLE…18 in the 4th against Toronto? But on the same token, where was the double team?

But I always wondered why we wouldn’t let the rest of the team just continue to play? I mean if Roy feels like breaking out…whenever…have at it!! Any of the 48 minutes are fine… But we would sometimes lose momentum and leads because it was “Roys 4th quarter”..

Now demonstrating that this whole team can play, will Brandon play less minutes — better yet should he — to continue development of everyone else, to allow him to go all out for the minutes he is on the floor, to avoid some injury potential and to preserve some extra energy for the playoffs…?

I would say the same for LMA – -

No, it isn't the biggest win of the season.

Yet, that notwithstanding, tonight’s game showed that stud pivotmen like Greg Oden will always have a larger impact on the game of basketball over power soft forwards like LaMarcus Aldridge and defensively mediocre, isolation happy wing players like Brandon Roy. As much as I like Roy, my objective viewpoint is that if the Trail Blazers are to ever win a NBA title with this core it’ll be on the back of Oden.

On a side note, Steve Blake deserves kudos for playing astonishingly well against one of the NBA’s supreme perimeter defenders, Rajon Rondo, which is a hell of an accomplishment.

by AK1984 on Dec 30, 2008 11:31 PM PST reply actions

is already having a huge impact on the team’s performance. His win score numbers are excellent.

by Cablinasian on Dec 30, 2008 11:33 PM PST up reply actions

I'm more fond of PER than Win Score, but it's clear as day either way that Greg Oden is the man.

Greg Oden’s ability to score efficiently down low (58.6% iFG), draw fouls (23% of field-goal attempts draw a foul), crash the boards (20.2 Rebound Rate), and block shots (4.8 Block Percentage) are all amazing atributes. Once Oden is 100% healthy and has fully acclimated himself to the NBA lifestyle, he’ll becomed a forced to be reckoned with each and every game.

he got down low, toed up with garnet, ect. aldridge duznt rotate well on defence, and kan be streaky, and has the majority of his shots coming from 18 feet, but he duz contribute alot. hes continuing to develope his game in the paint, maybee not as fast as some would like, but its undeniable that its happening, and he contributes a lot with smart passing, and forces a ton of turnovers. you simply can not dribble near him with out running the risk of getting the ball poked away. hes making his presence felt. ill take a finese player, with greg in the lineup, espeshully one thats making improvements in the areas that hes catching critasizm for.

OK, I'm stupid enough to bite on this baited hook

If this isn’t the biggest win of the season so far, which one was?

The only ones that come close are at Orlando and at Detroit. Detroit might be better, because they are a veteran team that gives people the kind of smackdown that we gave them, and we did it on the road. But they are (and were) still trying to adjust to the Billups/AI trade. And we were only missing Martell, not Martell and Roy.

Orlando? Perhaps. But they hadn’t dominated us early the way Boston had, and we had Brandon (but not Greg) for the Orlando game.

The S.A. and Phoenix wins at home were big because we hadn’t beaten them in forever. But we had Brandon in those games.

And if we lose this one, we are 4-6 in our last 10. The win keeps us tied for 4th, a loss would have put us 8th and only half a game ahead of Utah.

A loss means that this stretch of really tough home games has actually hurt us in the standings, while the win means we’re pretty close to where we were win it started.

I’ve convinced myself, this is the biggest win of the season. It doesn’t make us championship contenders or anything, but it’s one in the W column that most people expected to go the other way, especially with Brandon out. I’ll take it.

If you can't convince them, confuse them -- Harry Truman, U.S. President

In a sense, the Houston win was bigger, and maybe New Orleans...

In that they could have more impact on the Blazers’ playoff hopes/seeding. Any win against the other teams ranked 2-9 in the WC is really of equal importance right now.

As far as being impressive or giving this team a confidence boost, it’s laughable for anyone to suggest any other win was better than this one.

Trade him!

In theory… 0-1 with Roy, 1-0 without him against Boston. They’re the defending champs. Solve for X, and you get TRADE ROY!!!

ROSE GARDEN CROWD

I gotta give props to the crowd tonight.. I’ve only missed 4 games the last two seasons and I really liked the vibe tonight, the best crowd since lakers last season. Brandon was out the crowd stepped up. A few boston fans in the garden tonight and they got checked. We had a few chumps sitting above us and we played them like some fools. I almost got kicked out twice. I don’t like to mess with people but celtics and lakers are fair game. Fair warning – 315 is blazers only.

More Celtics fans in the Rose Garden than any other team.(except maybe lakers)

They all got shut up tonight. 331 is Blazers only too. We started the Oden chant.

i vote win over the suns because they are in the same conference

but this win was a fan favorite because of the dislike for the celtics.

that would be bigger, IMO.

Celitcs Blog-- whining about officials

apparently the 6 man score was a major factor in the Celtics loss according to their rundown. Poor guys, makes me remember the dejected look on that one fans face when they lost out on the Oden lottery.

What I still cant fathom is how Lamarcus gets a technical foul when Garnett elbows him in the head.

it’s a double T. Well-earned, and well worth it.

I must've missed that

I saw KG surreptiously slide by Lamarcus after the play and bring his arms up elbowing Lamarcus. I didnt see Lamarcus respond physically, not that it didnt happen, I just didnt see it.

Well Im sure Comcast is going to replay the game so I’ll pay closer attention.

Without the six-man thing

The score would’ve been 38-44, and even a chance for 40-44 or even 41-44. Yeah, it really cost them the game…

I was there, and it was glorious!

The point when I realized the Blazers had a VERY good shot at winning was in the late 3rd quarter (I believe), when LMA yelled at Bayless to get out of his area on the left block, demanded the ball, and hit a jumper. I realized that LMA had gotten over his nerves and was confident and assertive. And I could see that the Celtics were beginning to wear down. I don’t care how good you are; the last game of a road trip on the opposite coast is tough.

The other pivotal moment for me was when Oden and Przy were on the floor together. Back in Boston, the Celtics had physically overpowered the Blazers with the Big Baby/ Perkins combo. This time, Nate had something up his sleeve: he countered with his own beefy twin towers. Because neither of those Celtics bigs is a perimeter threat, the move worked like a charm.

I think the Celtics are NOT used to having their “power” lineup get pushed around! The crowd was absolutely giddy at seeing Joel and Greg out there together and you could feel the balance of power in the game shift. Wow!

There is no question in my mind.

We didn’t win this game by being hot, or by running on them. We just beat Boston in a half-court game by out-muscling them, and WITHOUT Brandon Roy. That’s bigger than any of our other contests where we hit some excellent shots to beat good teams – by far.

In K.P. I trust.

I voted Yes...

I voted yes, and it’s not like me to vote yes in a poll like this. I generally avoid applying absolutes to a game or player. But I do think this was the biggest win so far this season. The Houston game was perhaps more amazing, but this game was bigger. Oden applied himself and showed what he can bring now and hopefully in the future. Aldridge played big the whole game when we needed it. Even players that struggled, continued to hustle and it seemed eventually almost everyone contributed a play or moment that was important. We were playing the Celtics without Roy, for most of the game Rudy struggled. On paper you’d think that would translate into a loss. Everyone stepped up. I especially think it was a great game for Oden and Aldridge. Blake was key and I can’t forget him either. But in terms of what a win against a quality team that has had our number, on a night when our best player was not available means, I think it translates into the biggest win thus far of the season.

I do honestly believe

that this game has released our two headed beast in the post. Oden and Aldridge dominated this game with some outside firepower by Blake and some surprising drives by Outlaw. I will be the first to admit that I was screaming for Outlaw to be pulled in the 4th only to watch him elevate and dunk over KG on a baseline cut with the good look from GO. All in all I’m calling that this is the break through game we’ve all been waiting for. Oden and LMA have now arrived and I expect them to be forces going forward. They have stepped out from the increasingly large shadow cast by emerging Superstar Brandon Roy. They are now gathering in their own basketball light-filled glory and can begin to take their rightful place among the leagues best.

celtics slump

First of all, the blazers are overrated. Greg Oden averages 4 fouls and 14 minutes a game, Brandon Roy is definitely not a legitimate NBA All-Star. Steve Blake is playing out of his mind compared to the kind of player that he really is and will eventually realize that. Basically, the blazers rely solely on 3 pointers and that is not going to get a team very far. The Celtics have lost four of of six games, so this win was nothing special. The Blazers may squeak into the playoffs this year if they are lucky.
