I WAS ON HOLY GROUND TONIGHT!! -- UPDATED W/ PICTURES!
I went to the game tonight in DC and had a fabulous time. I'll first write about my thoughts on the game, then I'll tell y'all about something special that happened afterwards.
Game:
Rudy is the real deal. He hustled for all 4 quarters tonight. His energy fueled the win tonight. He had one spectacular put-back that is a "must-see" on highlights - the whole arena was in awe.
Brandon Roy is Brandon Roy. You got to love his consistency. In the fourth quarter, the Blazers had not scored any points for about 4 minutes. They looked lethargic, tired, and ready to go home. Enter Brandon Roy. He rattled off 9 points in a few minutes and put this game on his back. Without Roy or Rudy tonight, we would've been toasted.
Greg Oden. I was impressed with the big fella. You can tell the potential is there. He certainly looks better and better each game. He had a few amazing dunks that were worth the price of admission. This guy is phenomenal, even at this point. He had one block bigger than any building in Portland. It was huge. His put back off a Steve Blake miss tasted like a Loss Abbey Yellow Bus - mmmm, so nice.
Aldridge looked good. I liked his effort on defense more than anything else. He had a few clutch plays towards the end. He seems to set-up Roy fairly well. I think he's sometimes uncertain whether to pass or shoot, which messes a bit with the offensive flow. At the end, we he finally decided to dunk, we were all happy.
Rest of the team - nothing new to comment here - most guys looked pretty tired and this showed on the defensive end... The one player who stood out the most was Outlaw. Other than that, Pryzbilla hustled a lot which helped at times. He was injured for a moment but thankfully came back. Sergio got away with 1 travel, but then in the same possession, was called for a 2nd travel.
Our defense tonight was horrible. I'm sorry, but as much as I love these guys, there was little team defense. This could be due to the fatigue factor, but guys weren't switching, nobody seemed to be talking, and the weakside was left open a lot. The Wizards stayed in this game because our defense was so bad.
All in all, a gutsy win on a back-to-back. One can noticeably tell that these guys look awfully tired right now and I think this shows on the defensive effort. I'm not sure why Nate doesn't go deeper into the bench in a game like tonight. I'm happy they have tomorrow to rest before Friday's game at Boston. Sleep well Blazers, because it's gonna be a war on Friday.
Afterwards:
So my wife and I sat near Monty William's extended family during the game, and they gave us VIP- passes for after the game to meet players in the hallway!!! It was great. I litterally felt like a little kid getting ready for my first disney ride.
I'll post pictures at some point. All the players were very nice and kind. It's sort've hard to criticize them when you actually meet them because they're such friendly people. Both Nate McMillan and Mike Barrett were the easiet to talk with - I asked both about whether they "had heard of Blazers Edge" and both said "Yes" and smiled!!! I told Rudy he is the greatest Spaniard to ever play the game and he gave me a hug! Greg Oden is hands down polite. He was posing for multiple pictures with people. My wife thinks Aldridge is Hot, and I told this to LA after they had a picture together and he looked at her and smiled !!! Webster is straight up legit - very cool person. Batum just smiles. I don't know how much English he knows yet - seems humble. Steve Blake is like "office Joe." You wouldn't recognize him at all as NBA player. Outlaw dresses in style, but doesn't have much to say.... all in all, a great team that seems to really enjoy each other... I could write more about each player, but I'm going to retire for the night. If this wasn't Holy Ground, I'm not sure what is.
It's a great day to be a Blazer!!!
P.s. I enjoyed watching this team more "away" than at "home" in the Rose Garden. There's something special about seeing the few Blazer fans in the crowd during the game and talking with the players afterwards... they seem much more down to earth when not at home. The "blaze" seems more bright in dark "away" arenas. If you're able, I'd encourage to go to an away game to see this perspective - you'll enjoy it!!

Now, with pictures... Enjoy! -- Ben

Awesomeness
I bet Rudy smelled of rich mohogany. He’s kind of a big deal.
The reason Nate smiled when you asked him about the Edge is that he’s secretly the guy who proposed the Marbury trade and got banned by Dave for proposing boogerish ideas. Nate never was a good personnel guy. He’s still trying to swing a deal to get Green back from the ACB.

Nate would tell LMA
to grab her with both hands.
Oden would be instructed to go after her, hold her over his head, and not bring her down without throwing her out to Blake on the run.
Joel wouldn’t have to be told anything. He would run through everybody to get her, and eat her alive.

When I’ve seen the Blazers play in LA, I’m also always surprised by how many Portland fans there are.
When I went to the Clippers pre-season game against us, it felt like there were more Portland fans than Clipper fans… and the Clipper fans I met wanted to talk Blazers, not Clippers.
Great story, I’m glad you got to meet everyone! I am jealous and might murder you and eat your brain so I get to have your memories as my own. I gave you fair warning so legally I can’t get in trouble for it.

Awesome....
I was in Boston 3 years ago to see Randolph and company lose big time… that was the night S. Telfair was caught with a gun on the plane… tomorrow should be much different…
Funny thing is that somehow I got VIP passes to that game too… I think wearing a blazer jersey and cheering hard makes a person stand out… that’s when I first met Nate and Telfair… Telfair was a flat out punk to talk to…

Blazer jersey in Boston...
Last year my Blazer jersey and incessant cheering just got me a LOT of snide and downright rude remarks. I was sitting up in the nosebleeds so I’m probably lucky nobody threw anything. I’ll probably tone it down a little this year – but I’ll still be there in Blazer gear. Hopefully the the Blazer bandwagon has spread a little further and there will be a few more Portland fans in Boston for this one.

last year
Last year at the home game against the Celtics, I stood up and told a bunch of obnoxious C’s fans to sit down and shut the hell up. I kinda thought I might have been starting a fight that I wasn’t going to win… but to my amazement, they actually just sat down and shut the hell up.
I hate Boston fans. Grr. They just really got under my skin. Not my proudest moment.

Important reflections on the pictures
1. We can rack up one for Greg in the smile statistics, right?
2. Bayless is smiling.
3. Roy has on a Bayless face.
4. Travis has some kind of cable growing out of the side of his head. Perhaps this is a new coaching technique to allow them to communicate with him. “Travis, not THAT shot.” “Rebound! Rebound!”
5. Nothing personal, dude, but, um, your wife looks better than you do. By quite a bit.

we both had red blazer jerseys on…. but my wife had a white shirt on underneath the jersey, and i believe on camera the woman had a black shirt underneath, so it might not have been us – unsure

did you get to see Roy?
I wonder why if not…
Aside from that, this is a dream come true. My brother works in seattle at a restaurant commonly visited by the pros, mostly seahawks now, but sonics in the past too. Anyways, he has seen BRoy in there a few times, keep telling him to just have a blazers hat on hand so he can score the autograph. Hasn’t happened yet..
You are one lucky SOB, as Sabonis4ever put it.
"The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life,(of the Blazers), (of KP's madness), of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity." - Albert Einstein

Yes,
Roy was there, but he didn’t speak with anyone… I think he was intentionally ignoring fans to get to the bus…. he did smile once when some of us chanted “MVP”, but I think he was just exhausted…. he had a pretty slick Blazer cap on, which I tried looking for on the team website, but couldn’t find it… the guy dresses in style

awesome story ...BUT
you gotta work on your pose brotha! i think the team is cracking up because you got the “i think the camera is too close to my face” look in each shot…
other than that, big ups for supporting us at the opposing arena!!!

I was at the game too!
It was a pretty fun game, though I was more interested in cheering the Blazers on than anything else. I am so jealous you got to meet all the players! All I got was a high five from Martell and Brandon (I was sitting near the visitor’s tunnel) and a media guide thrown at me from the producer of the Wheels and Antonio Harvey show. We should organize a DC blazers viewing club if you’re down. PS Wizards fans are non-existent. I will be going to another game just to watch some basketball in person.
Oden=2009 ROY
