Brandon and Greg are Questionable for Tomorrow
From the team:
Brandon Roy (right hamstring strain) and Greg Oden (left ankle sprain) are both game-time decisions and listed as questionable for Boston.
Brandon was stretching his hamstring during and after the game against Toronto but said it felt fine and was only slightly irritating him during the game when he would make cuts.
I don't think Brandon misses this game.
Update: Freeman says Greg is getting x-rays tonight.
-- Ben (benjamin.golliver@gmail.com)
Update: We have news that Oden's X-Rays have turned out negative, though he is still considered questionable for the Celtics game tomorrow.

Greg injured his right ankle during our first game?
He just need a few more to cover all his body parts and he’ll be good to go.

Nevermind, it's in the updated link that Ben posted.
“Oden, who had his best performance in weeks against Toronto, is an even bigger mystery. The rookie center injured his left ankle near the end of Monday’s practice when he tangled with a teammate underneath the basket.”

Yep.
They happen all the time, and every player will get them.
As long as the x-rays come back ok, he’ll probably take a game or two off, and be right back into it.
In fact, if the x-rays are ok, it’s likely he could play tonight if necessary. (if there were a game) Precautions are good.
by Timmay! on Dec 29, 2008 2:54 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I don't buy that.
Frequent injuries are window into something deeper. Greg has structural alignment problems. If his body were entirely healthy the injuries would not be as frequent. Frequent, “freak” accidents are no coincidence. Unless the Blazers find out how to treat this properly, one of his ankles will break in the future, not just strain.
The knee problem alone is a sign he has abnormal grinding or pressure in that area of his body.
"Both Anthony Carter and Jameer Nelson were downright jubilant in the Magic locker room postgame. Carter said to no one in particular, "Brandon Roy, that man is unstoppable, it's like he's playing NBA Live" and Nelson was cracking on his teammates for not being able to guard Brandon. The kinds of jokes you can make when you win."

Why would they take x-rays if they didn't think it could be possibly broken...hmmm
Sounds more serious than day-to-day. Maybe not broken, but bad enough sprain to take x-ray precautions. Or it could nothing. Speculate away….Blazer fans should be pros at this now.

sprained ankles
are hard to differentiate from broken ankles. You’ve got a ton of small bones in your ankle (just like your wrist) that can break, but don’t hurt a ton.

Can't we activate Raef to do that?
Throw the RLEC out there! He was a former Celtic! Then we can send Jerryd out there to take out do the same to Rondo.
This would show a great willingness by the guys deep on the bench to do what’s good for the team. Nate could give them a game ball or something.

Greg Oden Injured as interpreted by the Oregonian.
Greg Oden was found to have a sprained ankle today, and the team refuses to comment on which player dealt this egregious blow. The Oregonian’s own beat writer Joe Freeman has through research and ingenuity found the source of these troubling developments.
"Well you know I was just sitting here thinking, and I was like, you know, who has the motive? And I was like I totally know who did this, Shav Randolph! Think about it, he isn’t getting much playing time right now, and who does have to take out? Greg Oden! I mean, wow, my mind was blown, but you know it totally makes sense."
Freeman then continued his hazy rant:
"And then I like called up Channing Frye, because you totally know he’s next. And with Channing and Greg out of the way, who are they going to look to? Randolph! Oh man, that Randolph is one totally crafty dude."

(Image edited by the Oregonian staff)
The Oregonian has previously brought to the attention of the Portland Trail Blazers Freeman’s suspicions of Jerryd Bayless being replaced by his evil twin on the court. And has repeatedly submitted these two photos as evidence of the switch:

Seriously
the Oregonian is getting out of hand.
" Greg Oden’s ankle seems depressed lately. It’s not having nearly as much fun as it did in college which is is clearly evident by the way it caries itself on the court. When I passed by Nate on my way to the locker room he gave me this funny look that Ieads me to believe he is unhappy with the attitude Oden’s ankle has had all season. When I asked Nate about it later in the parking lot he denied he was unhappy with the ankle, but then he did this weird thing with his eyebrows that pretty much confirmed all my previous suspicions. I also noticed that Nate has switched from drinking Gatorade to Vitamin Water which makes me think a rotation change is definitely coming." -Jason Quick

Two-step plan to make KG and his crew cower
This seems like bad news. But let’s look on the bright side. There’s an obvious one-two punch here:
1) Start the Shav for Greg
2) Start B-Rex for Roy
The Celtics will not know what hit them.
Let’s quit beating around the bush: everyone knows Shav and B-Rex are the two best dressed bench guys in the league. KG respects anyone who rocks the sweater/tie look more often than he does, and he especially respects the plaid blazer/patterned t-shirt look, which is close in some circles to being called, simply, “the Shav.”
It’s a little known fact that KG was barking at B-Rex to show that he’s subservient to a better dresser (i.e., to demonstrate publicly that B-Rex is his "master"). Also, the reason Big Baby was crying on the bench is that KG was berating him for continuing to shop at the plus size store rather than springing for a personal tailor like the one B-Rex and Shav use.
So basically, starting B-Rex and the Shav would create chaos, bewilderment and dismay in the Celtics’ locker room. Their collective reaction would probably be something like this:

Q: Is Greg favoring his knee?
Frye: He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors.

Jumping to conclusions
An “inside source” tells us that Oden was passing one of the rites of rookie initiation, going one-on-one with Lance Uppercut. Oden was trying to back Lance down in the post to get up a shot over him and Lance used his incredible thigh and forearm strength to push Oden way outside the paint. Oden took exception and tried a spin move with his elbow cocked and a little too high. Uppercut, having broken in every rookie since Kevin Gamble back in ‘87-’88, saw the cheap shot coming from a mile away and smoothly ducked out of the way. Oden couldn’t stop the spin at that point and crumpled down in a heap, clutching his ankle. When trainer Jay Jensen ran over to assess the situation Oden grabbed his clipboard and hurled it, frisbee-style, at Uppercut. Lance ducked this too but the clipboard sailed onward and hit Jerryd Bayless upside the head. Then it was on. When Bayless charged the crippled Oden, Greg employed the time-honored “he started it” defense. Jerryd, being a rookie, bought it and set out after Uppercut. Knowing that he’d be in trouble with management if he laid up two rookies on the same day Lance did the only thing he could: he ran. As he sprinted down the hallway Shavlik grabbed him, saying, “Quick, in here!” Jason Quick said, “What?” Randolph replied, “Nothing…I meant quickLY, in here!” Quick was heard to mutter, “That was a disappointing, underwhelming experience.” That was just before he was blindsided by Bayless, now barreling down the hall at full speed. Shavlik pulled Lance into the locker room and straight into his locker, where both of them hid. Unfortunately they were in the lower part of the locker and Shav’s cell phone was in the upper part on a shelf, so they couldn’t call for rescue. There they remain to this moment, fearing flying clipboards and charging Baylesses. I imagine we’ll hear from them by tomorrow morning if not sooner. Shav had the spicy chili nachos at Taco Bell for lunch.

I'm in two minds
Part of me thinks we should rest them, this is not really a winnable game and they could both do with the break from the grinding.
The other part wants to have a full strength team to go at them hard with. Show them we won’t always be pushed around and that there bullying isn’t tollerated. Make it a close game and I wouldn’t particularily mind if they lose.
by BeloHorizante on Dec 29, 2008 6:36 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
I think we can´t win if our second unit doesn´t play one of its best games. We can´t beat Boston if our first unit get tired.
Good opportunity to trust the second unit with not too much to lose. If they play great our first unit can beat Boston in the fourth quarter. In the worst case, Roy have some rest and we play Bayless again in development mode. The games we should win aren´t against LA and Boston but NO and Detroit.

About Roy
Anybody notice how much he’s getting hacked and knocked to the ground? It comes with being the star, but he’s getting to be like an NFL quarterback — flat on his back every other play. I admire how tough he is getting up from that and doing it again. One more reason Roy is amazing.

Oden can not miss this game. It will be a big disappointment.
This is a set back though because Oden was scared to dunk in traffic before because he didn’t want to get hurt. Now he will probably start going up weak in the paint. He needs to start dunking and flailing his arms like Shaq does.
There is a reason no one touches Shaq in the paint. He established that if you touch him or try to block him you might lose your teeth. Oden dunks but the defenders aren’t afraid. He needs to start hurting some guys so they don’t try and strip him or crowd him.
