This fanpost will probably get me banned from BE
This is going to be one of those posts that will either light up, or fizzle with every one calling me an idiot.
Alright so in 2 years Kobe Bryant becomes a free agent. But this summer he also has the ability to terminate his contract and become an unrestricted free agent. Would you accept him as a Blazer? (ref: http://articles.latimes.com/2008/oct/24/sports/sp-kobe24)
There is reason to believe that Kobe would be interested in coming to Portland. He has praised Nate by saying:
“He’s one of the best coaches I’ve seen,”
(ref: www.kgw.com/sports/olympics/localnews/stories/kgw_081908_olympics_mcmillan_coach.)
He has stated that Brandon Roy is one of his favorite players in the league and he likes his game a lot . (ref: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSuTpK5-j3g)
He has always been a player who has had an obsessive desire with making himself better and being a championship team.
The Freedarko book makes the case that Kobe forced the issue with Shaq, because of Shaq becoming lazy and getting old, and Bryant was looking forward to the future where Shaq would be handicapping the team. (Others make the case that Bryant is a an attention hog, as well as a ball hog)
While the Blazers have not shown they are anywhere near a championship team yet, arguably they are better than the Lakers would be without Kobe. So I pose the question to you, would you accept a free agent signing of Kobe Bryant, or is your hatred too deep?

Actually, the post below this one probably gets that guy banned
I love it when people make an account just to troll.
On to your topic:
I’m not as down on Kobe as a lot of people around here, but I don’t think this works for a number of reasons.
1. Kobe and Roy wouldn’t mesh on the same unit.
2. Kobe has played in big market LA his whole career, I doubt he moves to Portland.
3. The Lakers are far more likely to win the title in the next few years. Why would he leave during their window?

i really don't like kobe
but i don’t know… maybe i could learn to love him… but really it is a moot point. if Darius plays in 10 games this season we will not have the cap space even if for some crazy reason he decided to opt of his contract right in the middle of the most promising L*ker years in recent memory.

Just Say No To Kobe
He plays the same position as our young star and is unlikely to move to the sf position. I think he would do well in Portland but it would no longer be Portland’s team it would be Kobe’s team and no one wants that. I would rather win no rings then one with Kobe.

I would rather beat kobe than cheer for him. it has so little chance of actually happening though that its not really worth getting into the logistics of what it would take to even attract his attention.

I'm not sure how I would react to that.
There is a chance that if Kobe played for the Blazers I would be able to get passed it. I don’t see it happening though. The Laker’s roster is built better for Kobe right now. If Kobe was on the Blazers I’m not sure we would actually be any better than the Lakers are right now.

I would only accept him
only if he is willing to take in less money than the L*kers would offer him.
If i was a GM, i would offer him about maybe 8-10 mil per year, 2 years contract. 2 because its easy to get out of, and because easy to trade after one season.

if koby had a contract for 10 mil for two years,
that would be the most valuable contract in the league, and would be bordering on being the most valuable contract in the history of the league.

I just can't get excited about cheering for a rapist.
No matter how wonderful his skills.
He’s a jerk although a bright and articulate one.
Fortunately he is much like Martell, Brandon and Rudy. He’s much more desireable, even just from a hoops perspective to some other GM.
I hope.

hardly a rapist
I don’t like the guy, but the Boulder thing was clearly slander, the lady was clearly promiscuous and was trying to take advantage of his fame and money. He is not a good guy by any means, a adulterer for sure but a rapist…I don’t believe. I don’t believe Cliff and Jerome were rapists either, yet they were accused after a game in Utah I believe.
by The Natural ala Mode on Dec 28, 2008 8:04 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
not a rapist?
and Bill O’Reilly didnt sexually harass that woman either. Its just that in each case both those guys threw out millions of dollars to the accusers rather then face a jury. Im not sure about this but in a court of law there has to be evidence of a crime, (well, I guess there’s OJ, but) so if Kobe didnt do anything criminal, why wouldnt he exhonerate himself in a court of law.
I’d tell you what I really think of Kobe but then I’d get banned and probably sued. No true Trail Blazer fan would even consider Kobe in red and black….ever.

i don't like Kobe
but if its easier to pay someone off and make it go away, then so be it. another reason he wouldn’t want to drag it out in court is that it would have taken significant time away from the team, and Kobe loves playing the game of basketball.

oh puh....lease
a prison sentence would have also significantly cut into his time with the team. Its also unlikely kobe would have as many doters watching tapes of his prison ball highlights. I forget how much kobe shelled out, but O’Reilly paid out $10 million, you got an excuse for him too? Lets see, he was afraid the trial would cut into the time polluting the airwaves with his yellow journalism.
A problem with our society is criminal offenses are allowed to be bought off by the super-rich, who can then maintain denials and allow the naive to continue to bask in their glory.

paying money was what he had to do because
of his stupid mistake. Sleeping with a wh@re who was out to get his money. It is much less expensive for him to pay off a liar than to try and go to court, lose endorsements and pay tons of legal fees. It was conceded by the D.A. that their was no case because no rape had occured, when they did the test they found other sperm in her, not Kobe’s. He is a jerk and should never be a Blazer, but he is not a rapist. Do you really believe Kobe would rape someone? He can have practically anyone he wants, so why force a desk clerk who is less attractive than his wife. She was out for money which is despicable and he was out to cheat on his wife also terrible, but no CRIME was commited.

There was a crime, but our law system makes rape a very difficult crime to try in court
A rape case almost always falls apart when the victim fails declines to cooperate. This is often the case because it is painful to have to relive these traumatic events in gory detail before an audience. Kobe committed a crime but was never convicted, but he is a rapist, as was Rueben Patterson. Crime against persons are very difficult to convict unless there were mutliple victims. The fact that he setttled a civil case after the criminal case was dropped shows his guilt.
No Kobe, no way no how. He’s a donkey (you know what I mean) and we can and will win without him as a Blazer.

The guy’s a jerk – have you forgotten a couple years back when he started flailing his arms out when he shot in an attempt to hit his defender in the face with an elbow? He’s respectful like Bruce Bowen is clean and Kevin Garnett is a mature competitor.
In a way, each of us has a Kobe Bryant to face. For some, shyness; for others, a lack of education might be their Kobe. For us, Kobe Bryant is a big, dangerous L*ker who wants to rip out the hearts of Blazer fans at every opportunity. I’d like to see Brandon and the rest of the team continue to grow in the next couple years to conquer their own personal Kobe Bryant, who also happens to be the actual Kobe Bryant.

The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.
