Blazers record is the same as last year after 30 games.

18-12 is the record that we had last year at the end of the 13 game winning streak.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

Interesting. At the least it means they're, what, more consistent than last year?

Am I the only one here?

I’m catching the game on Tivo because of the Mexican food.

Do you think Bosh will go off tonight?

Toronto doesn’t have a back up point guard. It would be a good night to let Bayless run wild. Insert the Jaws theme here and then have Sergio AND Blake panicking as they desperately swim towards shore as they try to save their minutes.

There was a nice interview done locally in the Raleigh News & Observer…and on their blog….he’s hanging tight ….staying sharp and patient….he cracks me up though….I keep trying to be an encouragement…He’s got a great perspective ……I haven’t read Quiks blogs…

Shav doesn’t pay attention to anything on the computer…prob not even reading local papers…press always had HUGE expectations and he tuned them out years ago…I’m his link to things alot…Ben had arranged to do an interview with him for the site here…I’m waiting…

So far I've been hooked up for 2 games this year

Orlando and this last game against Dallas. Yes, I’ve seen 2 of the 3 home losses. And both of those were just miserable Blazer showings to close the game.

Last year I only saw wins. My luck has turned.

I gotta say the most annoying part was the scattered booing at the end of that Dallas game. Really? That really chapped my hide. I’m not a fan of booing your own team unless they REALLY deserve it, and this was definitely not one of those cases.

to sum it up

Last year in the first 30 games Blazers were consistent. If the were loosing it was in streaks, and visa-versa. The last 52 games were inconsistent.
This year Blazers were inconsistent in the first 30 games. So lets hope the will be consistent in winning, cuz that what will get them in the playoffs.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

What's the conventional thinking around here?

Is Nate going to try a new rotation tonight, or is he giving it a few games before he makes a decision?

Normal rotation unless (and until) someone shows chronic bad defense.

If so, then we see a JayBay shot at major minutes.
But not if everyone already in the rotation defends soundly.

That’s my guess, at least.

I think the biggest reason is to give Greg some easier competition temporarily

Something to get his confidence back up.

I’m not sure either way. The idea does have some merit.

Quick says Nate spent a half hour with Greg to talk to him about relaxing and not overthinking the game, and to go out and have fun. Maybe that’ll help tonight.

So, I promised a nasty halftime question

Let’s talk about a bad topic.

The coach took the team to task the last two days. Hard practices, heart to heart talks, threats of changes.

The team responded for about 6 game minutes, then lapsed right back into a reduced effort on defense, and more lethargic play.

So here’s the nasty question: Has the team started to tune Nate out?

Serious question. This is typically the point where that question comes up. Even if they come back in the second half.

For one thing

Like RipNation says below the Raptors have been shooting hte lights out. And it’s not necessarily for lack of D. The thing is, when the other team hits shots when you’re playing good D it’s hard to sustain.

Well, we've got 5 struggling games prior to this

(where happily they won some while playing poorly)

I’m not convinced either. But this is the kind of place where it’s probably time to at least broach the topic… and I don’t want to make a big fanpost out of it or anything. :)

it was the 2nd unit mostly

plus, 3 or so shots just rimmed in and out, and Toronto’s lights out. It happens.

Blazers are playing ok defense

The Raptors were just shooting lights out. Some of it were due to not getting back in transition. Odds say the Raptors shooting will cool down.

only at times

There were about three trips in a row that were just sad. And I count those O-reebs as bad defense too.

Oden is playing

his best game of the year and I’m loving it. Putting their front court in foul trouble and giving us high percentage shots in the paint. When you feed Oden consistently good things happen. Same with LMA. Blazers need to remember they have a post game. Toronto will coll off in the second half and if we keep pounding it in the post we will make a comeback!

I agree

not all his good plays in this game show in the stats. Keeping balls alive, knocking them to other Blazers even if its not technically a rebound.

I totally Agree.

All he needs is to have a block party or two and he will really have showed us the all around effort we have been craving!

cool half court shot by Trout at the end of the first half

The true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of a never ending love . Not the love we think of in desiring or possessing someone else, but rather the conscious unconditional love which seeks only the perfection of its object and is, at the deepest level, the underlying and uniting force of the Universe.

Utah missing a bunch of star players and doesn't miss a step

That’s why I respect Sloan. Players can step up, but playing well without star players requires coaching.

by Timmay! on Dec 27, 2008 8:13 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I don't really like the guy but...

I’d love to steal Sloan. I think he’d be great with our players. I know he seems to encourage dirty play, but I think the players could control that.

If Nate was hired by another team, of course.

I know, that's really controversial

But I have an appreciation for a coach whose team plays well without their stars.

Look at every game Portland plays without Roy… it’s like watching a JV team. They all look confused.

Yeah Sloan

may be the diritiest coach in the NBA but he is definitely one of the best on fundamentals and play design.

Then recently he said he was working hard to control how many fouls his players were committing. I was left perplexed.
