Blazers record is the same as last year after 30 games.

18-12 is the record that we had last year at the end of the 13 game winning streak.

And Oden, once again, is a rookie, so non-stop fast break basketball is like fast-forwarding a song while he's trying to learn the lyrics.

Interesting. At the least it means they're, what, more consistent than last year?

Am I the only one here?

I’m catching the game on Tivo because of the Mexican food.

Do you think Bosh will go off tonight?

Toronto doesn’t have a back up point guard. It would be a good night to let Bayless run wild. Insert the Jaws theme here and then have Sergio AND Blake panicking as they desperately swim towards shore as they try to save their minutes.

There was a nice interview done locally in the Raleigh News & Observer…and on their blog….he’s hanging tight ….staying sharp and patient….he cracks me up though….I keep trying to be an encouragement…He’s got a great perspective ……I haven’t read Quiks blogs…

Shav doesn’t pay attention to anything on the computer…prob not even reading local papers…press always had HUGE expectations and he tuned them out years ago…I’m his link to things alot…Ben had arranged to do an interview with him for the site here…I’m waiting…

So far I've been hooked up for 2 games this year

Orlando and this last game against Dallas. Yes, I’ve seen 2 of the 3 home losses. And both of those were just miserable Blazer showings to close the game.

Last year I only saw wins. My luck has turned.

I gotta say the most annoying part was the scattered booing at the end of that Dallas game. Really? That really chapped my hide. I’m not a fan of booing your own team unless they REALLY deserve it, and this was definitely not one of those cases.

to sum it up

Last year in the first 30 games Blazers were consistent. If the were loosing it was in streaks, and visa-versa. The last 52 games were inconsistent.
This year Blazers were inconsistent in the first 30 games. So lets hope the will be consistent in winning, cuz that what will get them in the playoffs.

Normal rotation unless (and until) someone shows chronic bad defense.

If so, then we see a JayBay shot at major minutes.
But not if everyone already in the rotation defends soundly.

That’s my guess, at least.

I think the biggest reason is to give Greg some easier competition temporarily

Something to get his confidence back up.

I’m not sure either way. The idea does have some merit.

Quick says Nate spent a half hour with Greg to talk to him about relaxing and not overthinking the game, and to go out and have fun. Maybe that’ll help tonight.

So, I promised a nasty halftime question

Let’s talk about a bad topic.

The coach took the team to task the last two days. Hard practices, heart to heart talks, threats of changes.

The team responded for about 6 game minutes, then lapsed right back into a reduced effort on defense, and more lethargic play.

So here’s the nasty question: Has the team started to tune Nate out?

Serious question. This is typically the point where that question comes up. Even if they come back in the second half.

i mean seriosly look at their starting line up
pg.i forgot his name the guy that rode the motorcycle or something
sg. jamal crawford
sf. steve jackson
pf.correy meggete
c.beidrins
Then they have bellenely, azabuky, watson, turiaf, and one of those skinny guys they have randonlph or the other guy and still they have the rook that dropped 37 on their bench. Thats a good team that would be much better if they were healthy and not riding motor scooters.

weird night without a bulk of the BE faithful

but a win’s a win.

i’ll be at the game tuesday, let’s pray for some semblance of cohesive basketball. it’d be nice to win, but i’m concerned.

michelle you look good tonight.. ANYTHING IS POSSIBAAAAAAAAAAL!

Greg Oden's Line

16 pts 10 reb (7 offensive) 2 blk (only credited with 1 for some reason) 1 TO and 2 fouls (3 called, but 1 was not even close to a foul)

he does all this in 28 mins. He would have easily had a 20 pt 10 reb game if he played 5 more mins and was fed the ball even ONCE in the 4th qtr.

The guy is trying to break out, and could use some help from Nate and the team, and especially the refs.

by hawkblogger on Dec 27, 2008 9:30 PM PST reply actions

I was ticked that he didn't touch the ball,

But I get that Roy and Aldridge were feeling it. Aldridge had like 12 points in the 4th quarter too.

Great game

by Oden. I wish he were that aggressive every night.

I also wish Portland could find a way to sign Bosh.

Canada already covers healthcare, so we’ll have to look at other perks. 401k matching?

Roy's hamstring

I hope this isnt a problem for the game vs Boston I hate boston I dont want to give them an advantage

by Miker Blazer on Dec 27, 2008 9:40 PM PST reply actions

You hate Boston?

I love Boston! I hear Garnett is swell! I like to think he and I could be friends some day.

Yes, I think our only shot at Boston is if Roy’s mid game is on. That would pressure their D. Otherwise we might suffocate.

Two days off.

Again, our days of rest should make this stretch so different than the first month and a half.

yeaim looking forward to a physical game

against the celtics, its about time we intimidate them instead of them trying to intimidate us.

a hard foul by oden or LMA on KG would do wonders i reckon

by Yawnie on Dec 27, 2008 9:46 PM PST reply actions

or bayless smacking KG in the JAW

that would do wonders.

damn straight

i reckon bayless would go toe to toe against KG and not back down, this is the kind of toughness we gotta get against veteran physical teams

BTW,

all that quick Hype for the exact same lineup? lol.

agreed. it's not great when travis is our answer to better defense

he’s a talented, but inconsistent, defender with inferior motivation. this team needs to learn good defense is not blocked shots and steals, it’s hands in shooter’s faces and tipped passes

How rad was that

Roy was headbutting raptor fingers. Was he biting? Did he get a fingernail? Is it weird to be biting someone elses fingernails on the clock?

fun night at the garden

great d in the 2nd half

good hustle for steals

and another superhuman Brandon 4th

The Raptors lobby the refs like a team full of Sloans. Every single foul is a reason to go out for coffee and talk it over with the zebras. Every stoppage is a discussion of no-calls. Jaysus. Never seen anything like it.

Soooo...Quick was....

Full of it? I mean….Serg played more, no J-bay, 38 min from LMA, 6 from Chan — less Travis although he was all over the place….no J-Bay shot in the arm….was there a shake-up visible….same guys – - different level of intensity…nice win…

by LetsBlaze on Dec 27, 2008 10:09 PM PST reply actions

i know...

i was a little confused at this. effin quick, first the “underwhelm comment” then the “i hate being around him comment?” now the “our whole lineup is gonna be shaken up” – I like quick…but come on.

I thought Jason Quick was referring to the fact that if things don't change

then a change will occur. As in upcoming games, not exactly the game today.

Hell, I coulda called that

Sure, my column would have been poorly worded with a lot of mispeligns, but I could have written that.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
