Nate has to go. His coaching is atrocous. He played the same players from midway through the 3rd Quarter and then it's as if he can't see when they run out of gas at the end. Sergio never plays despite playing the best point on the team most of the time... and that includes when Roy is running the show. Why is Sergio not playing, my guess is that he takes away from Roy being the focal point and, well, Roy is Nates boy. And he should, Roy is the heart of this team, but not at the expense of the team. Rudy brings energy and attack mode and gets Rudy involved and both those guys get everyone on the court involved. How is this a bad thing?

And Nate seems like he's just clueless on what to do with and about Oden. Maybe Oden's depression is bringing down Nate... I don't know but something is wrong and Oden can't play basketball very well anymore.

In my opinion this is a lost season if Nate is going to continue to coach like this. But unless there is a serious losing streak he will get the year but my honest basketball opinion is that Nate has to go for this team to thrive and win championships. Sad, cause I've always been a fan of Nates.

Is Nate making bad coaching decistions? If so what are you seeing? Are calls for Nates proverbial head reactionary and premature? Opinions peaple!?!

if you feel bad about nate’s coaching just take a look at a warrior game and witness don nelson’s coaching. you’ll feel much better about your coach and team, trust me haha.

I agree that Nate made some dumb decisions during this game, but...

it doesn’t mean we should fire him! Why can’t we simply point out what we think is a problem and then discuss it with out the fire him or trade them stuff?

the reason it is difficult to do as you suggest

sportsfans can’t be as equanimous about events when the team loses, especially when the team loses in a less than noble fashion (as I would say the Blazers did tonight)

that’s why we find such vituperation and “fire him” kind of language after a miserable loss like this one.

Nic is starting and "gaining experience" and "learning the league" -- but he's not in their mucking up the finishes...

…………………………… Tell me why Oden gets different treatment? He is NOT the best Center on this team, period. His offensive increase over Pryz’s is EXTREMELY minimal and his defensive liability over Pryz is QUITE significant.

Plain and simple favoritism — not the “Nate meritocracy” some people strangely think exists on this team.

Oden gets different treatment because

whether we agree with it or not (personally, I do), the Blazers front office believes that Oden, Aldridge, and Roy are our Big 3. Plain and simple.

unfair treatment

i know its sorta unfair to show favortism but nic is in there cuz martell is hurt pretty much…greg although he hasnt shown it so far, hes expected to be this teams “savior.” at least thats how he was marketed. a lot of our publicity (good or bad) has been about greg over the last few years…had we not drafted greg we would not have seen so many nationally televised games last year.

we just needed weakside help. Frye could have been at the 5, that didn’t matter as much as our lack of communication it seems.

Did you watch Rudy on defense?

Simply put, we got outhustled and outmuscled again.

I used to abhor the thought back in the day of the Shareef for Nene trade, especially since it was after his surgery. Now, not so much.

Josh Howard gets tossed, we get momentum, have the players, and it’s on Nate? No way man. I appreciate the vigor and passion, but it is misdirected as far as I’m concerned.

Aside from the refs calling this game CYO style, our perimeter/secondary fast break defense let us down. If I see Jet open for another three or Bass roaming the lane with no opposition, I will scream like a little girl. Well, I do anyway, but that’s beside the point.

We look tired, and with good reason. We have been beaten up and played through the battles with better than expected results. We could really use a healthy Martell in the rotation. Not that players have been overplayed, but with Oden and Batum getting a nice trial by fire, I think we could really use another veteran to play with fire.

That said, I do think we need to play Sergio and Rudy together for longer stints, but when long rebounds happen with regularity and Dirk gets to whine like a female dog and get fouls, well these games happen. No worries BEdgers, Merry Christmas and don’t let this foul up the midnight egg nog.

Is this a joke post?

Who would you replace him with? Do you have a specific coach in mind? I’m thinking it’s probably a really bad idea to change coaches on a young team is already playing above their heads. The team is 18-12 without a single consistent perimeter defender. That is nothing short of a miracle. The coaching staff has done wonders with what they have. They have a starting center who is roughly halfway through his recovery time after coming off major knee surgery. They have 25 jump shooters and one guy who can take it to the rim consistently. They have a roster filled mostly jump shooters. I think they are doing pretty good with what they’ve got.

Joel is having a career year. Blake is having a career year. Sergio is having a career year. Roy is having a career year. The team is winning. Leave it alone.

While I'm not convinced that Nate should be fired

Tom Thibodeau would be my first choice as a replacement coach—he’s got an excellent resume of producing great defensive teams. It’s certainly not Doc Rivers who’s responsible for Boston’s defense.

by wepto on Dec 25, 2008 11:44 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I like Doc,

but he had some help with Ray, Kevin “The Mouth of the South” Garnett, and Paul P. Winning always makes a coach look great. Pat Riley, one of the greats, quit the Heat when they started losing. Tom Thibodeau would be interesting though! However, Nates not going anywhere this year.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

by OCBlazerFan1 on Dec 26, 2008 8:35 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Good choice

I was thinking of Thibodeau as well, but as an assistant, not to replace Nate

McMillian needs better assistants. There is no salary cap on how much Paul Allen can pay for assistant coaches or how many the team can have. I don’t think Nate is going anywhere, his resume (coached Olympic team, etc) speaks for itself. But better assistants, including a big man coach for Oden? Now we’re talking. Pay them “whatever it takes” to get them to Portland, PA!

by two4larue on Dec 26, 2008 9:44 AM PST up reply actions   1 recs

Exactly!

Why haven’t we got a big man coach yet? Howard has Ewing, Bynum has Kareem. I like Mo Lucas coaching him for now, but can we get a former TRUE dominant center to coach him? Has anyone heard if this has been discussed by the staff?

by dario argento on Dec 26, 2008 12:48 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

This is one of my main frustrations

Lucas is the man, but he’s a PF. We really need someone to mentor him in the ways of the monster center.

by Timmay! on Dec 26, 2008 1:39 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

The list is a short one

Walton is busy and wasn’t a back-to-the-basket center anyway

Sabonis ilves out in the Lithuanian woods and is not coming back

My suggestion last month was Karl Malone. Sure, he was a PF but he knows all the post moves and the veteran tricks

by two4larue on Dec 26, 2008 2:49 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah I almost suggested the Mailman in another thread.

He’s a PF, but a more modern PF than Lucas. His specialty is the pick and roll, an area in which the Blazers are suspect (on both offense and defense). He has a minimum expectation of hard-nosed play (to the borderline of dirty).

If we can’t get a legit center to help Oden, Malone may be the best alternative out there.

It’s so hard to say how much Lucas is helping Oden. He may be doing wonders, or may be part of the problem. From the outside, it’s impossible to speculate. I’m admittedly a little concerned though.

I knew there would be that reaction

I hate Malone like the rest of you guys.

But if my choice is to have a player (Greg) who’s way short of his potential, or making peace with a player (Malone) I intensely dislike, I’ll make peace with that player.

I have a feeling Malone is like Danny Ainge. We’ll despise him until he’s helping our players.

by Timmay! on Dec 27, 2008 1:02 AM PST up reply actions   1 recs

Obviously, not many people read Casey's interview on KP

Losing like this is definitely not just the coaches’ fault, as hard as it is to admit. There was barely any hustle and heart for our players in the 4th to the point that our bigs were getting outhustled and outrebounded by a 5’9" PG. We can definitely blame those things to our coaches, but the one’s executing at the floor are also largely to blame. The lazy perimeter and pick-and-roll defense, anyone?

Besides, what happens when we fire Nate, the person who has actually helped this extremely young team grow to the way it is right now? Who will replace him, seriously?

but these are some pretty good comments.
This team has changed. And it seems that the more aggressive Roy is part of that. The rest of the team will have to adjust, just like we all will.

by parkinglotj on Dec 26, 2008 12:21 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I rec'ed your post because...

You mention in your first paragraph that:

We’ve gone away from 2 separate units…which has gotten a lot of criticism bc it doesn’t work in general in the NBA, but for us it has worked.

This is exactly correct. it worked for us precisely because we had so much depth that it was possible to put 2 separate units on the floor. Keeping those units separate for the most part allowed those units to develop their own chemistry/style which due to its large consistent composition of players meant they were better playing together.

Now we have these strange substitution patterns that make sense only to Nate, and leaves the rest of us at best guessing what he is trying to do, and at worst leaves us confused and frustrated.

I also wanted to react to this:

We have a crowded bench and everyone wants a bigger role, but morale will surely drop if Nate doesn’t hold everyone to the same standards. As much as this is "Roy’s" team, I wish it was like last year when someone new could step up at any given minute. Lately, if Roy isn’t on…there goes our chances.

The only way to help with the crowded bench that want a bigger role is going back to 2 units or trading players. Holding all players to a common standard of performance will help with morale. Also not immediately yanking ANY player for making 1 or 2 mistakes while otherwise performing well will also help with morale. But if ANYONE is simply not playing well in any way for several minutes straight they should be yanked and brought back later. This includes BRoy! On the other hand if someone IS playing really well then we should make the most of that fact until that player indicates that they are tired and need a rest.

How's Coaching Legend Larry Brown doing in Charlotte?

To me, the players look young. They get confused, out of position, and we get burned on defense and in transition.

One important point I’d like to make: I like Rudy and am glad we have him. He does exciting things but then so did Billy Ray Bates. His defense costs us points. He is consistently burned in transition. He is not that useful as a help defender. Even on offense, he cannot create his own shot. It is a cliche, but one it seems true in his case. When the defense is set against him, he throws up some very Travisesque uglies. Again, I am very glad we have him. He is Manu Ginobilli, but then Manu is a different player now than he was his first two years in the league. I am excited about the kind of player Ruday can become.

Rudy is a rookie, no matter his age. So are Oden and Batum. San Antonio is mixing in some young players into their regular rotations and being successful but who else? Atlanta, maybe, New Orleans, kind of. I give Nate all kinds of credit for doing what he is doing with this young bunch.

I was elated with last year’s .500 finish. I am even more amazed with the success so far this year, with so many new players and actually less experience in the regular rotation than last year’s team. Thanks for helping me remember how much I like this team and the coaching staff.

First of all, Nate and the management have done wonders for this team. Nate is doing a great job right now, and oden is just in a big mess and he’ll recover over time.

Second of all we have the youngest team in the nba! (minus Lafrentz).. We are going to have many close losses like tonight thats apart of all the learning we’ll go through together, but i do understand why you could be irritated right now i was too after the loss, but oh well.

I'll do nothing more than post a couple of comments from Mr. Blazersaurus'

post from last year and let you guys draw conclusions.

4. Blake: What you see is what you get. He’s solid. He’s one of the few guys on the squad who doesn’t look like he’ll get better segnificantally. If he hits a few more of his open three point shots, his points with me jump up, as would our win total.
15. Nate: Mr. Sonic is a good couch. I’m not sure he’s a great one. He seems to lack imagination for me at times. But despite that, he might be the best couch for this team. His offense suddenly seemed unstoppable during the streak. It seems to require a healthy, deadly shooter to make it work. Now that we’re adding even more weapons next year and then it’s look out league. And they say the players love him. Heck that alone might be worth more than imagination. Still, I’m not worried, if he doesn’t win a lease one ring in 3 years, 4 tops, you can be sure we’ll have someone else at the reigns.
18. Oden. Lots of you, maybe most of you on this sight, are reserved and cautious about how long you think it’ll take for us to be legit contenders for the crown. Greg Oden instantly makes us contenders. He is going to, or has the real potential to be the greatest center………wait for it……. EVER!. I’m not saying we will win it but I won’t be all that shocked if we did. And if I was on when of them sports shows and they asked me to prognosticate on who’s going to win it… I’d say Portland. I’m not saying it now no, I’m just saying if I was one, you know, on one of those shows.

Worst part is that I always used to spell Coach as Couch

Took some heat for it and learned my lesson… for now.

I like Blake. I am a fan of him and think he is a solid starter for this team but Sergio brings great energy and penetration and gets everyone involved. Blake should play half the point guard minutes and Sergio and Roy and eventually Bayless should get the rest. But Blake should not being staying in the game until his legs stop working or substituting in for a guy playing great basketball which happens all the time.

I used to think Nate was a good coach who simply coached by numbers a little more than I would like to see. Now I think Nate is over his head. The mistakes that I am seeing most games are not mistakes in retrospect but mistakes that are obvious and go against basic coaching 101. Which is funny cause on one hand I’m saying he’s not imaginative enough and then I’m saying he needs to at least adhere to the basics. You know like legs get tired and watch the game and react to what’s happening and don’t throw in the towel when there is a chance to win the game et all.

Oden is too big a subject for me to deal with. I think Nate and the gang may be overwelmed by it too.

by Blazersaurus on Dec 27, 2008 3:56 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Wow, that game sucked!

I do have some specific in-game criticism of our coaching.

Can someone please explain to me why, at the exact moment when Dirk picks up his 4th foul early in the third that we stop driving on him? Seems to me we should be driving on him more. Plus Travis was having success with it. Uhhhhmmmmm….

Where is Joel Pryzbilla in the fourth quarter? We got killed on the glass. I know that had a lot to do with the high picks and guard play, but GO was looking horribly lost out there and the game is on the line. So you finally put Joel back in with around 4 minutes left. And then take him out 20 seconds later never to return?

I have been complaining about our guards willingness/ability to fight through a screen for months now. If Sergio can do it, why can’t Blake? Perhaps more to the point, if Sergio can do it, why doesn’t he play more?

I have to say, The Blazers are a frustrating team to be a fan of! The fundamentals are so poor. After watching PHoenix, San Antonio and Boston earlier, it was almost like watching the junior varsity play the late game.

So that’s my venti!

I got really frustrated and was the first one asking to fire Nate.

OK, maybe Nate is not the only problem, and probably there is no better coach out there right now (I don’t agree to this). But I think that we all see that Nate has some responsibility in this game, and IMO is not the only game he has been totally off.
He doesn’t react and adapt to the games, never, and he only trust a bunch of players… the more the games are close, the less the players rotate. We looked tired and uneffective yesterday in the 4th Q… (and in other games), look at the minutes Roy, Blake and Travis played…

FINALLY

Somebody else that sees through the media’s “kiss ass” antics of Nate!! What the hell was he doing subbing out Sergio 2 mins into the 4th when he was very efficient. Another signature of Nate: If it works, ignore it. Hint for Nate: Just look at what JJ Barea did.

And why did he sub Vanilla Gorilla… a huge reason you won the last game vs. Denver (no thanks to Nate b/c he was gonna play Oden but he got a foul every play). Oden’s first play in was a travel and then (gulp) getting beat by Brandon Bass…

I applaud you Blazersaurus!!

so truth is banned now Philthy

I have watched Outlaw closely in his years here. I have seen the guy has a good heart no doubt about it. However as was displayed in Quick’s articles this summer and other interviews or lack thereof was a real lack of intelligence. If he had gone to college maybe this would have helped some :(

your point of view is respected

here, I am not trying to be rude just give an honest a opinion. I am not saying he is a bleeping idiot, I am saying that his intelligence is not that of his teammates like Roy. I could be wrong that is my opinion and a reason why I don’t think he fits with our team. If we can judge people on character why not intelligence?

by The Natural ala Mode on Dec 29, 2008 1:45 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

think of it this way

If you were hiring someone to do a job, would you not consider their intelligence? I work in b2b sales and with out quick wit and logical thinking I wouldn’t stand a chance. I would have never gotten my job w/out intelligence. I might be able to get a job at McDonalds or something with lowered intelligence but not a job where I am expected to use my mind to accomplish a goal. In Basketball you need smarts to be successful. I have played against some older gentleman that absolutely took my younger team to school, because they played smarter. They weren’t more athletic or talented, just smarter. This is a fair criteria to judge a Blazer on. Don’t you think?

by The Natural ala Mode on Dec 29, 2008 4:42 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

all i am saying is

we hold ourselves to a higher standard here at BE. i think the whole travis/intelligence angle is kind of tired right now after TiH’s 600+ comment post. you are welcome to have whatever opinion you want…but i just think we are better than the typical fan in general that we wouldn’t have to attack a persons intelligence. the blazers aren’t just a team in Portland…they are Portland’s team. I wouldn’t insult their intelligence the way I wouldn’t talk bad about my family or my children when I have them. That’s not to give them a free pass to do whatever they want tho. I will question them when they make bad decisions, but I’m not going to cross that line and go below the belt either.

As I've said on several previous occassions --

 — Kevin Pritchard is a fortunate man to have so many basketball experts available here at BE to call upon when he finally realizes what a poor coach McMillan is.

Yep, it never fails to amaze me the level of expertise that pours forth from BE when it comes to analyzing and assessing what it takes to coach and win in the NBA.

I bet some of you could even tell us how to turn around the economy, win the war in Afghanistan, bring peace and prosperity to Dafar and eradicate malaria.

hakkaa päälle !

by timg56 on Dec 26, 2008 10:31 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

I can do that

1. Win the war in Afghanistan. Tell Pakistan if they don’t sort out their side of the border, we’ll nuke it. Carry through if needed. Use incendiaries on the poppy fields so the Taliban can’t sell drugs to fund their war. Game over.

2. Peace and prosperity to Darfur. Tell Omar Hassan al-Bashir he’s a dead man if this doesn’t end. Carry through if necessary. Declare a de-militarized zone around Darfur 20 miles deep. Move anyone who lives there out, compensating them heavily. Bomb everything that moves in that zone for six months. For every unprovoked attack by the Janjaweed, carry out punitive bombing on the Abbala tribes, ensuring that the Abbala casualties are 10 times as high as the Janjaweed inflicted. Game over.

3. Turn around the economy. Institute a one year moratorium on all sales taxes. This will give incentive for those who have surplus money to spend it on luxury items during that year (since the moratorium will expire), which will generate jobs, etc. Slash Social Security and other employment taxes by 2/3 of current levels for three years (reduces the cost of employing people, which will prevent some layoffs and encourage new hiring). Drill for oil everywhere it exists in U.S. territory and territorial waters, start today (new jobs, keeps oil cost down). Eliminate 95% of all environmental regulations (reduces costs to employers, which will save some jobs). Pass legislation greatly limiting punitive damages (reduces insurance costs to employers, which will save some jobs). Triple alcohol and tabacco taxes to lower consumption and the resulting expensive health care, spending the extra revenue on infrastructure. Institute the death penalty by hanging (cheap) for all premeditated murders, rape, and incest, all appeals to be heard within six months, and use the funds saved on housing prisoners to spend on infrastructure.

4. Eradicate malaria. Set out mosquito traps world-wide. Spray DDT in a 15 mile radius around every location where a malaria-carrying mosquito is found.

NOTE: I do not say any of these things SHOULD be done. But they would accomplish the goals you set out — at a cost which your people are unwilling to pay (and so are ours). None of the problems you mentioned are unsolvable, if there is the will to do it, and it is worth the cost.

I have to clarify one thing....

The Taliban are the only regime in Afghanistan to ever eliminate the opium trade. Two years after we invaded it was back in record levels! If you talk to Afghanis, and not the Pentagon’s talking heads over at the NYTimes, they will tell you that the return of the opium trade is the main change that has occurred since the American invasion. That, and a deteriorating infrastructure (electricity, water, schools, etc.)

Incidentally, that is the same poppy trade that has funded various CIA escapades through the years. Make no mistake about it. Americans are not only the world’s biggest consumers of hard drugs, we are the world’s biggest profiteers of their trade!

Jscot, you’re one of my favorite posters and I know you were joking, but had to correct your facts/suppositions on this one…

by Blazin' on Dec 28, 2008 1:58 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Actually

I knew the Taliban had fought against (they never eliminated) the opium trade, and that it has come back strong. But I have also read that they are now using profits from it to finance their efforts. I don’t remember where I read that, though, so it may be mistaken, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

The Koran basically says “all’s fair in war”, so even if the Taliban are opposed to it on moral principles, that would not stop them from using it to help them fight a war.

That was just a side issue, anyway. Not that a nuke is the answer, but if you sort out what’s happening on the Pakistan side of the border, Afghanistan becomes much, much easier.

3 would also have side effects

All of those environmental things you would be getting rid of, would also get rid of all of the environmental enforcement jobs, and those people who make the equipment that controls emissions would all of a sudden not have a market for their goods.

You can only drill for oil in places where it would be economically viable. And these fringe places where oil is protected, are only economically viable when barrels of oil cost a lot (Like shale etc.).

The gov’t goes into deficit spending even more trying to run the country without taxes, and infrastructure couldn’t be paid simply with tripling alcohol taxes (the health care thing wouldn’t be helpful in the short term). They could just come to Oregon right now to avoid sales taxes, but they don’t, so I can’t imagine the sales tax is a large barrier to buying stuff.

Jaws were hitting the floor as Greg repeatedly attempted to tear the rim off the backboard...

by TheOdenator on Dec 26, 2008 2:59 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

In most states

if you are a resident and buy a large ticket item out of state, you’ll have to pay the sales tax if you bring it into the state. Can’t believe it is a foreigner telling you that.

Sales tax isn’t a large barrier. But if you are going to buy a helicopter or a yacht sometime in the next couple of years, you would buy it in the year when there is no sales tax, which would help stimulate the economy when it is really needed. This might have been the only suggestion in the whole post which is really viable and might actually help.

Deficit spending? The government has been going into deficit spending anyway, and if something drastic isn’t done to create jobs, the deficit spending is going to be immensely worse. You choose your deficit spending — either the government spends money on welfare/unemployment benefits for people out of work, or it spends money on creating jobs (infrastructure, hopefully, rather than more paper pushers), or it spends money by reducing taxes in a targeted way to create more private sector jobs. One of those three is going to happen. Actually, given the new people you’ve elected, I’m willing to bet the first two will happen — more welfare/unemployment benefits AND more government spending to try and create jobs, but NOT encouraging the creation of private sector jobs. And that is certainly what we’ll be doing over here.

Oh, and oil? It was artificially high, and now is artificially low. If you don’t start drilling some of your oil before long, it’s going to shoot up again. Oil companies know this, and would invest now for that future day. You can’t wait until it is high to start drilling, or you won’t have it when you need it. You’re possibly right about shale, but not about off-shore and Alaska. They would invest now, creating jobs. Oh, and since your government would be selling leases to the oil companies, that would give you more money to help with the other problems.

community policing

is what makes this site as good as it is. your right in that sites like these are only good when there are good debates, but you have to realize when people make personal attacks against other posters or below the belt comments, the debate doesnt really go anywhere. daves and bens insight as well as the quality of posters here make this place what it is. i dont think i can even read the convos on most other forums, but this one had me reading every single topic and post last year. now that this site has gotten big in such a short amount of time, a lot of the newcomers are outnumbering the veterans and are not assimilating to the culture here. its still a great place to be compared to other forums tho. if you check out the other communities about the blazers or other SBN sites you’ll see why this one stands out above the others.

long time reader

I have been reading BE for at least 3 years, I was here before Ben or Dave took over. I appreciate your opinion I just don’t agree that this is a personal attack. I am of the opinion that Intelligence plays a large role in a players success in the NBA. If I don’t think a particular player measures up to that standard I don’t see why it has to be a personal attack. I like TO the person, he is a great guy humble as all get out. My wife played Air Hockey against him once even! I just feel that he doesn’t fit for the reasons I have already made clear and intelligence lies at the core of the issue. This is a business and teams are made up of individuals who bring certain qualities; shooting, post moves, rebounding, defense, handles etc. I realize that you can grow attached to players but regardless each has their strengths and limitations. Outlaws athletic ability is boundless, he can stroke it when he gets going, his dunks can be breath taking but he is hampered by his low BBIQ. Ultimately intelligence is what wins basketball games and I want us to win a tone of rings. This is not a slight on his character or attack it is a simple observation over time of observing my favorite team. When Outlaw goes I will be sad because I like him as a person but I will be happy he has moved on as a fan.

well

if you don’t think or intended it to be a personal attack then fine…i just think it is…and it seemed like a bunch of other people did as well in the TO and bbiq thread. intelligence is important in any aspect of life and while it can help a lot in basketball, there have been people with questionable intelligence that have had good careers. shaq comes to mind first. i don’t know how actually intelligent barkley or walton are, but they say some things that baffle my mind pretty regularly.

Share information. Read / learn more about your team (or whatever subject ....

… the site is about). Enter into intelligent discussion and exchange.

Hypothesizing, is fine when it is backed up by rigourous thought. When it is not, it often sounds like mindless chatter (see many of the trade suggestions that get posted).

Questioning falls pretty far down on the list of reasons for a site to exist, unless the original purpose of the site was to call a topic into question.

What I am referring to above is the tendency of some to constantly critize McMillan’s coaching, when they have zero experience doing what he does. Who here would accept having some yahoo off the street come to their place of work and tell them how to do their job?

Nate McMillan has a pretty good track record. By most accounts he has the Blazers performing above the level of expectations. The number of wins has improved every season and he’s currently on track for another 8 – 10 win increase. His record in close and OT games is outstanding, one of the best in the league. He demands hard work and accountability – traits that are not usually obvious when watching a game on tv, but are far more important to winning than substitution patterns in any particular contest. He was selected as an assistent to the US National team, out of how many hundreds of candidates?

Nate McMillan has earned what he has. The yahoos who like to show off their basketball expertise by calling into question Nate’s coaching abilities or even his “fit” in Portland, have not. All they really have proven is they most likely have their head up their butts.

The United States should be getting more than half it’s electrical generation from nuclear power.
