ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?
how did brandon roy NOT get named western conference player of the week?!?!
http://www.nba.com/2008/news/12/22/122208players.week/index.html
seriously?! I know Roy only had 2 games this week but:
v.s. Sac- 29 poitns, 5 assists. Blazers win 109-77
v.s. Phx- 52 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds. Blazers win 124-119
Sure, Chris Paul did break the record of consecutive games with a steal, but when you look at how Brandon Roy first led Portland to a must-win over Sacramenton, then completely TAKES OVER against Phoenix and scores 52 points?! This is compeltely ridiculous!

I will gladly not care about this THAT much
And take a win over Denver, in Denver, as a consolation prize.
Roy was great, he had just won a best player of the week award, and he only had 2 games. It’s cool! Paul was great too!
There just wasn’t enough games to really win the award, and besides— everyone saw that game and saw how awesome he is. That’s worth more than any weekly award.

now i see the light!
that is very true, and who knows? maybe this is a little extra motivation for Roy tonight! hey Mortimer, I heard a rumor that the Blazers (and Nuggets) might not be able to make it back for the game Tuesday night… can you confirm this or is it all lies?
Because people are into stupid achievements
Chris Paul is a great player but I don’t care about his ‘accomplishment’ at all.
Blazer Fan
for the same reason...
that Shaq doing a ho-hum rebound putback made the top ten plays of the month for November – because there was a record/milestone involved.
The NBA is silly stupid about stuff like that, and it looks ridiculous IMHO every time they do it.
Rule #1 of nitpicking is to get it right.
Even though...
105 games with a steal is pretty ridiculous…

agreed
but what does it have to do with being player of the week?
If some guy goes 106 games with a steal, but scores 3.2 pts per game that week, does that make him player of the week? Of course not. You have to seperate the two things. The award isn’t “Player of the week who also happened to break an NBA record this week”

Ok, none of you can get excited about
Roy’s most points in 5 Blazer games record
or when Roy scores more than Mighty Mouse in a game
or when Roy gets the most number of FTs made in a game
or when Roy get the highest 4th quarter scoring average in Blazer history
The NBA/ESPN do tend to overvalue low level records and milestones, but c’mon guys, it’s just 2 (very, very) nice games. In the case of Chris Paul, I actually think that’s a pretty good record. It shows serious consistency and hustle.
"It’s a good ol’ fashioned Rip City beat down!"
Individual recognition and awards are nice,
but this is a team. They all understand the importance of wins of awards.
It is up to the fans to recognize the same.

the timeline might not be right
but brandon’s 52 might have been devalued some by jamal crawford scoring 50 a couple nights later.

Also that Barkley´s quote "My grandmother would drop 45 on them"...
Sergio + Rudy = 16
Sergio + Bayless = 16
Batum 8+8=16
are you insulting my beloved Dallas Mavericks?
I think I can only add "The NBA, where caring for everybody but the fans happens". --amlmart1
I´m a sword for hire, a killer, and I will insult whoever I want (Blazers must be tough, you know).
If you demand an apology, come to Spain and let me know here. The only question left seems to be whether you will meet your end by the steel in an ambush in a dark alley in Spain or in car crash going to the airport by a snowed road in Oregon.

I'd need a recent photo of you ...
.. so I knew who to look for.
Or more accurately, to give to my spotter, so he knew who to look for.
But if I’m coming over to Spain to see you, it will be with a quarter case worth of NW wines for you to try against the local labels. I love Spanish wines, both red and white.
hakkaa päälle !
Snipers are not usually welcome among the old Spanish swordsmen, we like to kill and die face to face, but if you can bear the local wines I´ll make an exception with you and we´ll drink wine to death.
Por ella.

Por la más bella.
Por la botella.

As someone who fenced in college ...
… I’ve come to appreciate the efficiency of 182 grains of copper jacketed projectile traveling at 1200 fps.
But I will ascede to your superior wisdom and accept a contest to the death by means of wine consumption. If fact I am committed enough to put in the 20 – 30 years it might take.
