Do the Blazers have the best logo in the NBA?

i was perusing the available gear on NBA.com and it had a list of all the team logos.

considering the blazers have had the pinwheel logo for many, many years, i would consider it to be the best logo in the NBA.

i say this because although i dont know the history of the logo, i know it was present from when the team first played in 1970, and it has stood the test of time while still looking modern to this day.

The Design of the Trailblazers’ Logo

Harry Glickman’s cousin, Frank Glickman, of Boston, Massachusetts, designed the original logo, consisting of a straight up and down pinwheel with black on the top and red on the bottom. It’s meaning is simple: a modern graphic interpretation of the game of basketball, five players from one side playing against five players from another.

I like the Bull, Blazer, Knick, and old SA logos...

Hate the Thunder, L*ker, Clipper, and Nets for some reason.

Hornets were bad, now they cleaned it up a bit

I also don’t like the way Toronto designed the good raptor idea

Oh, Thunder is out of competition of course. Horribly generic logo

Dude c'mon

the thunder is by FAR the worst in the history of the league

I still don’t recognize that team as a member of the NBA.

Gotta

be the Blazers logo. Alot of things about this team are debatable but not this. Blazers logo’s only real challenge in my mind is the heat cause I love the flaming basketball hoop I mean thats just cool. Our logo looks like some crazy magical symbol and looks powerful. I say Blazers logo FTW.

Best logo? Hmmmmmm.....

For classic sake, I like the Knicks and the Bulls as well as the Blazers. I think the Bulls might be the best for just representing the name. I mean, what the hell is a knickerbocker anyway? Didn’t they change the name because of the obscurity. Blazers are second on coolest logos for me, behind the Bulls.
And FYI, the five halves of the pinwheel on either side I believe are supposed to represent the five players on each team, and the center is supposed to represent the unity and beauty the ten players competing.

oh wow i didnt know that

i guess if i googled hard enough i could find it, but thanks for clarifying!

actually i secretly like the celtics logo as well, but i wont be saying that around here :)

I was going to say it is very Zen looking

and cool looking at the same time. Then you just sinched it (if true), it’s very Zen and a great basketball LOGO.

Blazers logo

I’m not 100% on this, but someone told me long ago that the blazers logo signifies 5 on offense-5 on defense. I’ve stuck with that theory ever since. I like it…

Its a pinwheel

Its a pinwheel, like the pinwheels on wheels of the western wagons Trailblazers used coming here to Oregon. Nothing more complicated than that.

The NBA does not have very good logos IMHO. Most of them are so superficial.

by Balian on Dec 22, 2008 3:26 PM PST reply actions

superficial?

Aren’t all logos superficial? Otherwise they would show up on X-Rays

That 70's show:
Kelso: Red! I guess ur wondering why I'm going through your stuff. See, I needed to borrow your saw...because I need to chop down a tree...because there's something stuck in it...an animal...a rabbit...and I would like to return that rabbit to the wild so it can lay its eggs!

Red: Kelso, rabbits don't..............how the hell did a rabbit get up a tree?

Kelso: uhhhhhh Eric threw it up there.

Red: Eric threw a rabbit up a tree?

Kelso: Yeah, he's a sadistic bastard.

Yes

Superficial like in what you see is what you get. They are not like the FedEx logo or like in the NFL, the Atlanta Falcons. Have you ever noticed the Falcon on their helmets formed a “F” too?

by Balian on Dec 22, 2008 3:39 PM PST up reply actions

That's not being superficial..

that’s just being ‘not witty’.

most NBA logos are too cartoony

most of the typography is pretty terrible as well.

by matthewcc on Dec 22, 2008 3:33 PM PST reply actions

Naturally I have bias

But I think the Bulls logo is the best. Hasn’t changed in years, the uniforms have not gone through any major changes either (though they are shinier now). Blazers logo/uniform are high up because of their uniqueness, love the Knicks logo. I also think the Hornets current logo is also one of the cooler ones.

Best logo in pro sports

Blazer pinwheel is a classic. I believe that it is the best logo in sports by far. And the only one I would ever think about getting tattooed on. It is unique, elegant and classy.

by BlazerD on Dec 22, 2008 5:35 PM PST reply actions

Logo Definition

The team’s colors are red, white, black, and silver, which was added in 2002.9 The team’s “pinwheel” logo, originally designed by the cousin of former Blazer executive Harry Glickman, is a graphic interpretation of two five-on-five basketball teams lined up against each other. One side of the pinwheel is rendered in red; the other side is rendered in a monochrome color (black, silver, or white). The logo has gone from a vertical alignment to a slanted one over time.8

The new Nuggets logo is sweet.

Saw it for the first time tonight, loved it! For some reason I could only see it on NBA.com’s homepage where all of the scores are shown. Simple, elegant, and it really pops.

The Chicago Bulls logo is the best

and I kinda’ like the rockets’ new logo as well…

i would like the rockets logo

if they weren’t so obviously trying to appeal to china. I mean they came out with the new one at the same time the drafted yao ming and their jersey just looks like the Chinese flag imo.

i hate the suns, king and nets logos. also i hate the nets jersey’s too(why would u want to wear grey?)

i kinda like the raptors but mainly just for the name(dinosuars are always a plus for me)
also like the cav’s, warriors and the bulls/knicks are classics

but the pin wheel is the best.

I'm surprised by how few NBA logos I like.

I just tried thinking of them, one at a time, going through the entire league.
And to my surprise, aside from Portland, I just never had a reaction of, “Niiiiiiiiiice”.

(I particularly hate the Heat “logo”: the word “HEAT” in block capitals,
with a little flame thingy on the top left corner of the ‘H’.)

The NBA is just way behind the other major sports (NHL included) for good logos.

You know what? Surprisingly, I like the Clippers' logo.

The fact that it’s the Clippers makes it hard to consider as “good”, but it is.
Very classic-pinstripey in an old-school-baseball kinda way.
