Blazersedge 1/3 Season Awards--Most Inspirational
Everybody and their grandma's cat does mid-season awards at the halfway point or All-Star break. We're being different and doing ours twice, once at the 1/3 mark and once at the 2/3 mark of the season. Voting will be open until Monday when the votes will be tabulated and winners declared.
Scroll up and down the page to see the various awards.
We want this to be legit and official so votes will be recorded in the comment section, made only by registered users. Explain all you want but vote CLEARLY and OBVIOUSLY or I won't bother reading your stuff and counting your vote. Don't make this hard on me by writing six paragraphs and ending with a schmozz vote for everybody.
This award is for the Most Inspirational player, judged by whatever criteria you see fit to employ. All players are eligible.
Register your vote in the comment section.

But, there should be a best cheerleader award for bench players and I would give that to Bayless.

The Kings have the best bench I’ve seen. There are easily 14 guys on this team good enough for every bench in the league. Now if we could only get some starters, I’d totally jizz in my pants.

I want him to win one of the awards, this one seems appropriate.
Plus I still have the image of him greeting Brandon (along with Nicky) after he made the shot against Houston.

Jerryd Bayless is the obvious choice
He has been sitting pine and he is STILL rooting like heck for his teammates night in and night out. He is still working his butt off in practice. He still has his Bayless face.
Easiest choice for me out of all the awards.
I think I can only add "The NBA, where caring for everybody but the fans happens". --amlmart1

although I wonder if I’m judging this as a fan too heavily. Obviously, Brandon’s game winner against Houston, his 52 point game and assorted late game heroics are all very inspirational to those watching, but I wonder if Przybila shutting down Shaq and Howard, or Batum earning a starting spot or Webster being tough and a good Samaritan through injury are all more inspirational.
Roy is just so steady and reserved that I wonder if he can be accurately labeled as ‘most inspirational’.

I think his attitude has been amazing! They say he is working hard in practice. Pushing sergio and blake and he is the Best Cheerleader on the bench. I love how excited he was when Brandon was tearing up the suns! All game he was giving high fives and chest bumps. He was probably just as tired as the people that actually played :)

Joel…
You work so hard. You know that if you get better they all have to get better. You know your new heir apparent replacement will have to get better, your chasing that hardware. And in case you might all get what your all looking for, an early congrats. Joel’s asking to work Overtime. He wants to still be playing in June don’t ya Joel. And the only way you can do it is if you lead by example. And that’s what you do, you inspire. Be it some spectacular blocked shot or some new nifty bank shot , your doing it all. You have an ever expanding array of assets to add to our arsenal.
Now if you could just could on being a threat behind that 3 point line…

To go from someone who wasn’t even expected to crack the rotation to a regular starter filling in for an injured player is impressive. Not only is he a rookie, but he at 19 has shown a lot for his age compared to other “veterans.”

Wow. I'll pick someone different.
Greg Oden.
The guy spent a full year recovering from MF surgery, mostly on his own, just on his power of will to come back.
He comes back, only to get hurt in his first game. He powers back weeks later, and immediately transforms the defense, while struggling to get in shape.
Even with all those factors, he’s already had a 20-10 game, and has shown glimpses of truly great play already.
All while every single member of the media overanalyzes his every move and complains about every little thing he does that they disagree with.
There’s really no wrong vote, because everyone is inspired by their own definition. But Greg’s hard work and dedication has been more inspiring than any other team members’ play or interviews.
And this is coming from someone who hangs off Brandon’s every play and his interviews.

I like that he stayed positive after he got his first injury. Kept working on his shot. Stayed with the team throughout the season.(Not like RLEC, who I haven’t heard from in months. Where is Raef by the way? )

Rudy was a star already in Europe. Nic came relatively out of nowhere and was penciled in for a year in Boise, instead he is helping the show.
If I didn’t have to vote for a single player, it really is the year of the “anti-Euro-bust”: Nic, Rudy, Marc Gasol, all play great this year. Get lost Andrea Bargnani, Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Darko Milicic & Co. Galinari, I don’t know you. I have had it with Italian prospects in the NBA and you don’t help my argument ;-)

He has brought fire and energy to this team.
I don’t remember the Blazers yelling and pumping themselves up a lot last year.
Rudy screaming after big threes has inspired a lot of emotion and confidence on this young Blazers team.

Pryz was definitely a close second for me, but let’s be honest here. A lot of people thought that the Roy we saw last year was the Roy we’d have for the career which was going to be ok. But dude has taken his game to another level recently. The thing is, and why I say he’s the most inspirational, is that this new level of play, or “The New Roy” as Roy put it himself, is no fluke. He’s made the jump and realized he CAN be a superstar, and that his team needs him to be. I am fully confident that he has just started scratching the surface, and would be willing to bet by the end of the season Roy will be considered and elite player along the lines of Kobe and Lebron. Mark my words! We are so lucky.

It is tough to choose one but I think he is not only the MVP but the glue guy holding it all together. When the MVP wants to win more than receive accolades, Joel can accept coming off the bench, Bayless can deal with 6 minutes a game, Rudy can be content to learn and grow instead of being the star, and Travis can accept his 6th man role.
Can you imagine this team with Stat-Bo as the veteran leader?

The obvious answer is Roy but I'm going with Rudy
There is one thing missing from Brandon’s game and it speaks directly to him message of staying humble and not showing anyone up…he just doesn’t dunk the ball. I’m not saying that he needs to be more “showy” but every once in a while he needs to get nasty and put one down. If nothing more than to just bring the crowd to its feet. This is why I voted for Rudy, he engages the crowd during the game. Either through his dunks or his antics after a big play. He seems to truly understand the importance of having the fans into the game and does what he can to keep them engaged.

Plays to the crowd when he hits big shots, and has a serious flair for the dramatic. When he gets going you can tell the team gets a lift. Obviously the same is true for Brandon, but superstars are supposed to do that. Rudy is more of the guy that can inspire a solid white team run.

the kid is playing with poise and purpose. You could argue for Roy, but Blake is the guy who has stepped his game up so many notches this year it is not even funny.

Joel. Has to be.
Almost every game I am amazed all over again at how hard he brings it. Roy is the guy everyone rally’s around but Joel is the other pillar in my opinion, leading by example with his toughness.

Martell Webster
Coming into this season, many prognosticators had Webster pegged for a breakout year. Despite those expectations and a constant series of setbacks due to injury, Webster has maintained a positive attitude and has supported his teammates from the bench. His demeanor sets an example for the younger players and demonstrates what a positive effect a team-first outlook can create. Helping stranded motorists is just gravy.

There’s a lot of folks (Batum, Joel, Blake) who you could point to for this one, but the fact that Sergio was almost on the way out at the end of last season and managed to turn it around to the point where people are looking forward to him taking the floor (alley-oop anyone?) makes him the winner of Most Inspirational.

Jerryd Bayless
Easiest award yet. He is the first one to practice and the last one to leave (says the Oregonian in the preseason). But he is still such a great teammate. He is always the first one off the bench to high five his teammates when a timeout is called and he is always in a good mood and smiling. I know if I was in his position I wouldn’t be too happy.

I am inspired to get up and shout “I did not just see that! I did not just see that! Whoa!” almost every game I watch him drive into the middle of the defense and finish with his left while the rest of his body is frickin’ sideways.

He’s playing the way I always thought he could.
Since we can vote for anybody on team, the I’d like to cast my vote for the entire team. It’s been inspirational watching this team play, in large part because of how they’ve played as a team. Therefore I think they deserve the award as a team.

The team goes how Brandon goes. He is the emotional leader day in and day out. Rudy is a close second because of the spark he brings but BRoy is most inspirational

Brandon Roy
I hate to vote for BR for everything but he has earned this one for sure! To hear Brandon casually talk about something that I have tried so hard to put a tangible phrase to for years speaks to his honesty and his true appreciation of what lies in front of him. We always hear about potential. It has gotten to the point where many of my friends are cautious to get excited about someone with “the dreaded P word.” Brandon understands how to turn potential into reality.
Brandon told us all the other day what he actually needs to get to the Kobe-LaBron level. He talked about how he can’t touch those guys on defense and how other guys are becoming afraid to touch him when he is being defended. I have long been frustrated by the call them as you see the name on the back of the jersey policy of NBA officiating. I have always wondered how a Portland Trailblazer would ever be able to garner enough respect from the officials to get the routine bailout calls that we have seen over the years when a true superstar is playing in a major market (Magic in LA, Larry in Boston, Ewing in NY, Michael in Chicago, Shaq everywhere). I can’t touch them on defense? They can’t touch me on defense? I can’t wait to see what the reaction of the NBA officials will be. The point is that he understands the difference in the officiating and doesn’t look at it as if he is being treated unfairly. He sees it as another obstacle that he is going to overcome on his mission to dominate and win championships.
Brandon Roy understood what he needed to learn in college to get himself ready for the NBA; he came back for his senior season.
Brandon Roy understood what he needed to do to help the trailblazers in his rookie season, he stood up to Zach Randolph and put the team before himself.
Brandon Roy understood what the trailblazers needed from him last year, he accepted the mantle of franchise player with humility, respect and determination to win.
Brandon Roy has inspired everybody this year by once again understanding exactly what he needs to add not only to his game but to the team mentality and game strategy on and off the court.
In closing I want to cite a comment from Nate. I read that he had said that in a game earlier this year he was upset at how the Blazers were playing and he was just about to rip into the team and try to get them going. He got up from the bench, but he heard Brandon saying something to another player who was on the bench. He heard Brandon calming the other player down and saying that although they had missed a few shots, things were going to be okay. Nate went and sat down and said to himself “well if Brandon says that its going to be okay, then alright its going to be okay.”
