Awesome, Rec'd
I posted this yesterday. I ranked Roy as more clutch then Wade and Kobe. Some people questioned this order, do you mid if I cite this as some evidence?
smile, your on a poster
It appears (I think) that kobe is still quite a bit more clutch...
but I’m not really sure because although I appreciate the effort (and it may just be that I’m a moron), this is a very difficult graph to intepret. I’m not sure this type of graph illustrates your point as well as another one could. Awesome points though.
The Blazers as a whole are far more like my wife than like me in the sense of their physicality on defense.

There's a reason it's difficult to interpret
It’s because I wasn’t trying to come up with a comparison storyline. I was looking at relationships and found something interesting about Roy. Peole then wanted to see him compared to the best 2 guards in the game, which is not really a comparison that translates into a clear chart, but I wanted to use the same format as the other chart. The clarity issue is one of the reasons I used rollovers on the image page to isolate comparisons.
Taken individually, here’s what I see:
1. Wade is clutch. His team also has won more close games than they’ve lost, and most of the time his usage is high in those. He also has high usage numbers in games that are out of reach, which means he plays with intensity when they are losing.
2. Roy doesn’t. He shuts it down in the clear loses and the clear wins, but pours it on in the close games. And the Blazers have won all but one of the very close games
3. Kobe wants to bury people. His highest usage games are in the zone where his team wins by 10 to 20. His team is also a lot better, so his usage is all over the map based on whether he needs to kill it or not.
4. This is a small sample size. Very small. So small that individual game circumstances have as much to do with the point spreads as the player’s abilities. It would be interesting to see how the dots line up over a whole Roy career. I just think he’s too young to really show that kind of consistency yet.
