Boozer opting out. Will be a Free agent next season
"I'm opting out. No matter what, I'm going to get a raise regardless," Boozer told ESPN.com. "I am going to opt out, I don't see why I wouldn't, I think it's a very good business decision for me and my family, but I'd also like to see what happens with the Jazz and stay here."

It will be very interesting to see what the Jazz do
If I were them, I’d take a long hard look at simply letting Boozer walk, while making sure to match any offer thrown at restricted free agent Paul Millsap.
Boozer’s an intriguing player. Like LMA, his D is bad, but he’s a much better rebounder and much more efficient scorer. I’m not sure Boozer is worth the massive contract he’s likely to receive, however. His situation will certainly be an interesting one to follow.

"Like LMA, his D is bad"?????????
LMA was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year his sophomore season at Texas.
I really don’t think LMA is a poor defender, he’s simply not yet at his full potential, on either end of the court. No way we go .500 last year if LMA’s “D is bad”. Care to extrapolate on that some more?

I was floored
by the LA bad “D” comment as well. No other 7 footer in the league can cover perimeter players as well as Aldridge. On top of that he has very active hands deflecting and blocking balls every game. I would say his defensive REBOUNDING is crap but overall he is an amazing defensive talent and that is what separates him from a player like Channing or Zach.

Bad D?
LMA’s stats go something like this….6" 11" 245lbs runns like a deer, averages 17pts 7rebs 1.3blcks and 1stl per game. Go to NBA.com and look at PFs in the league. Not very many doing what LMA does. The capper is he has a long way to go before reaching his true potential. Please qualify your remarks in the future, thank you.

watch LMA play D
He’ll make the occasional spectacular play, but he can’t stop anybody 1v1. Did you see Zbo torch him for 38?

Zach is an amazing scorer
I was at the game and Lamarcus was guarding Zach maybe 1/4 of the time. LA was guarding Camby a large percentage of the time either way it was off screen and roll with missmatches and help defense. He slows down guys like Chris Bosh, Rasheed, Booze all the time.

I'm telling you
watch LMA play 1v1 D against any decent scorer. He can’t stop anyone. LMA does do a good job getting deflections and is very good defending the perimeter for a big man. Stop someone 1v1 in the post? No can do.

No no JK. It's just a coincidence
that teams with elite PFs are the hardest teams for us to beat. It’s just bad luck that opposing PFs have great nights against us all the time. Big 12 DPOY must mean he’s a great defender in the bigs, stands to reason right?

I didn't see
Amare score on him once in the post last night. He fouled him once and sent him to the line. Besides the foul, he was able to shut him down or force them to pick and roll then post. When they did that he bothered steve nash enough that it had to be abandoned entirely. JP got crapped on by Amare, huge SC highlight, did you see that? JP must be a terrible post defender…wait he’s not? Premier forwards are premier for a reason they get it done night in night out. LA does a great job of limiting that. LA is a fantastic defender and was drafted for his defense. He will get better as well.

We need a power forward
like we need a hole in our head.
If the impact player we covet isn’t a PG or SF than why bother? BRoy, LMA and G.O. have the 2/4/5 covered for the next decade.
I don't normally do this, but I felt compelled to tell you something. You have an absolutely breath-taking... heiney. I mean, that thing's good. I wanna be friends with it

Say goodbye
to any chance Portland had of landing Millsap. Somebody (Miami?) is going to overpay Boozer, and Utah will hold on to Millsap

Between Beasley and Boozer
opposing forwards are going to put up a TON of points on the Heat if he signs there (although those two can fill it as well)

Likely to me too.
Miami could make a pitch for him. Wouldn’t be all that far fetched as I learned Boozer has a home there.

You're probably right.
We should definitely throw money at Milsap. Boozer is going to demand Max money, or close to it. We’ve already seen how he stuck it to Cleveland. I think there is a fair amount of a chance that Boozer doesn’t stay in Utah. If Utah is going to keep Milsap, we may as well make them pay big for it. If somehow, we end up with Boozer, I’m ok with that. He is the polished inside post presence we are missing. As much as I like LMA, and I really really do, I’d be happy with Boozer. That scenario would allow us to trade LMA and/or some other assets and get a nice PG, SF, or draft pick in return.

Regarding Carlos Boozer, I can only see him signing with one of three teams this off-season.
1. Miami Heat
There’s no need to explain the reasoning behind that possibility, since it’s been beaten to death.
2. Chicago Bulls
The Chicago Bulls desperately need a jolt of low-post scoring, which is Boozer’s forte. Yet, if the Bulls want to have a realistic shot at signing Boozer this off-season, then John Paxson must definitely cut some future salary from the organization’s books. A trade whereby Larry Hughes is dealt to the New York Knicks for Malik Rose and Jared Jeffries would accomplish that — since Rose has an expiring contract, while Hughes is set to earn $13,655,268 next season — as well as give the Knicks an extra $6,883,800 in future cap space come the summer of 2010 due to shedding Jeffries’ contract.
3. Utah Jazz
It’s still possible that Boozer will ultimately re-sign with the Utah Jazz, although I doubt that he’ll do it.
by AK1984 on Dec 18, 2008 1:25 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
even jazz fans
believe boozer is leaving. Even their marketing reps believe he’s leaving (at least the guy I talked to in Utah at the convention center.)
Greg Oden, where posters happen.

The Miami Heat will need to cut some salary from its books this off-season to pay Carlos Boozer a ...
maximum-level salary; thus, I envision a sign-‘n’-trade between that franchise and the Utah Jazz wherein Udonis Haslem — who’d become redundant due to Boozer’s arrival in South Beach — is dealt westward.

Good
Anything that weakens a division rival is a good thing. But if the Jazz finds “another Millsap” in the 2nd round I will scream
Jerry Sloan, you are not Joe Pa…retire already so Utah can hire an inferior coach who won’t teach his players to play old-school Chicago Bulls (’70s) “hack at everything that moves and dare the refs to make every call while the hometown fans are yelling at them” defense

Luke Walton
LA Lakers trade:
Lamar Odom

That makes absolutely no sense for any of those teams.
1. The Utah Jazz got screwed over in the deal like a 13-year-old girl from the FLDS Church.
2. Carlos Boozer doesn’t have a skill set that meshes with Phil Jackson’s Triangle Offense.
3. The Toronto Raptors are left with Hassan Adams at shooting guard and no depth on its bench.

The team formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics is on pace to draft the second-coming ...
of Carlos Boozer, with that being Blake Griffin. Unsurprisingly, Griffin’s drawback is also defense.

Boozer won’t be trading on any verbal agreements this time! GM’s are going to get that [stuff] in writing!
by AndrewD on Dec 17, 2008 11:24 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
If he isn't traded
and not re-signed by Utah, this is good for us on two counts. First, it weakens Utah’s depth. Second, it means that someone with cap space will be signing him, which means one less competitor with cap space for whoever KP is targeting.

PF is th new C
in the east. KG, Brand, Bosh, Okafor, Sheed etc. Only Howard and maybe big Z as respectable C’s. Maybe Horford…
In the west, we have too many freakin good bigs, Cs and PFs, Duncan, Amare, Dirk, Oden, Shaq, Yao, Gasol 1 (and Gasol 2 ain’t too bad), LMA, Boozer, Okur, Chandler, Kaman, Camby, Millsap, Randolph, etc…

*shrug*
If I had the choice of getting paid millions in Salt Lake City or millions in Miami or wherever, I’d choose the “miami or wherever” too. Don’t see any reason to call this greedy — what, you all don’t make choices about your employment based on your salary?

People get so wrapped up in the idea of loyalty when it comes to sports, they forget that the players are human too and want the same things we want, regardless of the salary differential.

why not give the fanshots some love with this little announcement re: Boozer?
You got something against fanshots dude? Is a fanshot an insufficiently narcissistic format for you?
The perfect is the enemy of the good.
According to James Kunstler, who writes a well-respected if slightly profane financial blog whose title I cannot repeat here, "The Republicans must be clearly identified as the party that wrecked America... it's hard to imagine the American people giving the clean-up task to the very group that created the mess -- no matter how many cute little faces Sarah Palin can make on TV."

My prediction of why I thought the Blazers would win the division, in part because the Jazz would have some problems dealing with Boozer. This just might be the start of it.

Jazz at home
That’s a tough win to come by. I was amazed when the TB’s got over last December, thanks to Marty getting hot from behind the arc
The combination of Jerry Sloan “hack everything that moves in the paint” and the bush-league home fans whining about every call intimidates the refs. (After all, you can’t foul out the entire Utah roster by halftime, can you?)
To get a win in SLC, you’ve gotta shoot the lights out and hope the Jazz don’t get 50 FTs to beat you, going down the stretch, anyway

Garnett
Just more evidence Garnett is a dog…
Millsap scored 32 points as Kevin Garnett, according to one Jazz player, kept calling over to teammate Kendrick Perkins: “You take him, Perk.”
From that ESPN article.
We need somebody of Millsap’s calibar, though not necessarily his position, who makes Garnett wimp out and let a lesser teammate get embarrassed to save his own reputation.
