Family in Portland for Christmas
After our tour of the Eastern Conference, in which we won 4 of 5 games, we returned to Portland to play against Orlando. They say in the NBA that the first game home after a road trip is dangerous, almost like another road game. And it’s true that we were passed the bill (Ed: Our closest expression would probably be: "It took its toll on us.")
At best, we were too confident, or better yet, it was the exhaustion after so much travel. Or, even better, it was only bad luck, because Turkoglu hit a three at the last second, which can happen from time to time. After that, we went to Utah, (always a tough court), and also lost, and without time to rest or think much (we got home at 2AM), we played the next day at home against the Clippers. Total: 3 games in 4 days. But, as has also been said here, one has to always think that there is another game coming to get better and make amends. There are still 57 games in the regular season left! And we hope a few in the playoffs.
This week is important for me because my family is coming to spend a few days with me. My parents and girlfriend arrive friday, my uncle and my best friends will arrive in a little while, and my sister Marta (who is playing in Poland) as well. They have treated me very well in Portland since I arrived, but being with family is something necessary to stay happy and to be able to continue motivated and concentrated on basketball.
When you are far away from those close to you, like when I clocked in for Joventut (Ed: Joventut Badelona, Rudy’s Pro team in Spain) at 13 years old, there are always difficult moments. But now they are here to spend Christmas and New Years, and this is what’s important. Later, after the holidays, many friends from Mallorca (Ed: Rudy’s hometown) and Badalona will come to visit me up until the end of the season. I’ve bought a wall calendar to keep clear when my friends are coming. They all want to see me play in the NBA in person... And I want to see them!
