True Hoop on Kevin Garnett's Trash Talk

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-37-45/Kevin-Garnett-s-Big-Mouth.html

Interesting read. I find myself in the camp that thinks it's no coincidence that KG saves his "A" material for rookies and benchwarmers. The guy is the ultimate paper tiger, and I think his "superstar" cred is wanting. Yes, he's got tremendous skills, but if he hadn't cried and whined his way out of Minnesota and on to a stacked Celtics roster, he'd still be in the Dirk Nowitzki category of regular season superstars who can't carry a team in the playoffs. KG should get on his knees every day and thank Paul Pierece for burnishing his legacy, but the truth of the matter is he's a fraud (not a real tough guy/intimidator, and not an all time great like so many of his acolytes proclaim). Now that LeBron has some help, I really hope I get to see a crying KG walking into the tunnel after being eleiminated in the Eastern conference finals.

Ridiculous.

Is this sports or sunday school? He probably should’ve gotten a few Ts that he hasn’t gotten (although I kind of think the Bayless thing was no big deal, but the Calderon thing was obviously taunting), but I’d love to have someone that intense and fired up on my team.

If we could get him on the team for any combination that doesn’t involve Roy, I’d do it in a second.

No doubt he can play

But as a togh guy, I don’t see it. Rookies and 12th men are his targets of choice. Like the great philosopher Chong (sp?) Le said to Frank Dux: “Very good. But bricks don’t hit back!”

Mouth>Ring

I’m personally fine with Garnett’s legacy being reduced to his trash talking mouth. Makes his ring less shiny. Way to go, dude.

Everyone needs team mates

Dumb to even bring up Minnesota. What would you think if Brandon Roy stayed here & he was our only good player, towards the end of his career he has a chance to win a ring on a team with talent besides himself. Ray Allen was in the same boat. I respect KG.

I see him wantingout of Minnesota

as somewhat akin to his hypocracy in going after samll guys, i.e. when things don’t go his way/he isn’t guaranteed the outcome he wants he shrinks. Maybe not a perfect comparison, but I see a connection. And I do respect his ability as a basketball player, but don’t like his act.

Just inaccurate.

He wasn’t whining to get out of Minny. Minny was desperate to get the best deal possible for him and had been shopping him for a year before he got traded — minny quit on KG, not the other way around.

I mean, this isn’t ancient history here, this happened a year ago.

While I am not a fan of his antics in general

I have always liked how hard he plays every night. I have also lost a bit of respect for him because of his taunting, but for you to say “if he hadn’t cried and whined his way out of Minnesota and on to a stacked Celtics roster” is completely uncalled for. Can you provide one refrence to this? To my knowledge, he never had one ill word for the team, the city, or the organization. He stayed there through thick and thin and did everything in his power to make them a contender. Not until Glen Taylor said that they were shopping KG, did he ever say anything about leaving that team.

I guess you can think of him however you want to, it’s an opinion after all, but I would say one thing you couldn’t say about the guy is that he isn’t loyal. I have always thought of KG as almost loyal to a fault, but again that is my opinion, but there is a reason T-wolves fans were rooting for the Celts in the finals last year….and that reason wasn’t Kevin Mchale

I think his tough guy act is fake

That’s what bugs me about the guy, it’s cowardly to choose targets that you think won’t/can’t do anything about it. Jordan, Bird, etc. went at everybody, heck, most of the time they sought out the alpha dog on the other team. And he torpedoed an early version of the Boston trade (before the Cs got Allen on draft day) so I think it’s fair to say he cherrypicked his situation.

I posted this on TrueHoop but now they're talking about rape so I'm leaving that place

Kevin Garnett = Rasheed Wallace — The only difference between the two is that Wallace goes after the refs and Garnett goes after the opponents.

As for Dave Zirin, how does slapping he floor equate to good defense or passion?

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
