THE turning point and whats to come MANIFEST DYNASTY
Ladies and Gentleman, Sports fans, NBA fans and the obviously excited Blazer fans,
Where to begin....lets start four years ago when we were going through the seemingly unending jail sentence that Whittsit entrenched us rose colored blazer fans in.
Zach had just had another run in with the law and Nash passed on Chris Paul for Martell Webster....I remember sitting at a bar after work watching the debacle unfold.
Disappointed was not the word.....frustrated , humiliated, ashamed and pissed off to no end that our once great franchise had been dwindled down to a complete sports mockery.
Four years ago was THE turning point!! And none of us knew it. None of us could have guessed that by not drafting Chris Paul put us in the position we are in right now. With a combination of unbelievable brilliance (Paul Allen hiring Kevin Pritchard), the greatest single draft in modern history(L.A., Brandon and Sergio), unearthly luck in landing Oden and Fernandez and topping that off with the draft we just had is to say the least one of the more remarkable turnarounds in sports history!! Period!!
With that said, where are we today?
We easily have the youngest starting five in the league, if not NBA history, we have started out this season (which is easily the hardest start of a season I have ever seen) dominating the teams we should and beating the teams we can, we have the deepest bench in the league, we have 6 guys that are shooting 38% or better from 3pt. range, we have Brandon Roy, we have the best development coaching staff in the league, we have no question the best GM in the league, we have the richest owner in ALL sports, and we have the most rabid fans in the NBA!!!
(DEEP BREATH)....BREATHE MAN BREATHE
We are seeing not a team just going on a run but a force of nature that will consume an extremely talented league for the next decade! Just think about it for a moment.....once the Blazers take over in first place who is going to claim it from us and when? It will be ours for well....a decade if not longer. We have far too much talent for us not to. With Paul Allen's endless pockets, Kevin Pritchard's talent evaluation and Nate McMillan's development abilities I don't see this slipping away from us anytime soon. What this adds up to is the rest of the NBA hating us like the Celtics of the 60's......
I know I know....its soooo early and its sooooo presumptuous!!!! I've been thinking about this for awhile now and I can't hold it in any longer. This is happening before our very eyes.....the stars have aligned and THIS IS HAPPENING.....this is not circumstantial....THIS IS HAPPENING.... HERE AND NOW!!!!
What is happening?
MANIFEST DYNASTY!!!!

I love the optimisim
You and Manzell are preaching loud and proud, my brother, and I hope that you are prophets letting us now that the promise land is here and now. The Blazers are certainly stacked with talent and Paul Allen has more paper than God. And KP practically walks on water. We just need to stay healthy, gain experience and continue to gel as a team.
Is this a force of nature about to erupt into a dynasty? I believe!

Chill, dude
or you’re gonna have a heart attack. I understand your sentiments, but all I can say is that we should never count our chickens before they hatch. The last two wins have been an extremely pleasant surprise for me, because I did not truly believe we were ready to handily beat contenders. But in doing so, the team continues to exceed expectations, and I think that is the most beautiful thing about this experience. We don’t know for sure what is going to happen, but it is going to be spectacular to be sure.

and even if you fail you will still end up on the moon

Alluding to Manifest destiny is not a good way to describe a basketball team
or anything really. There is a lot of baggage with that term in addition to it sounding extremely arrogant.
I do like the optimism though. Sometimes I just watch Roy’s amazing 3 against Houston over and over.

I love MANIFEST DYNASTY
I know, the connotations and baggage that Magnum alludes to aren’t good… but it does make a unique and creative catch-phrase/book title for the coming era of Blazers basketball.

i just dont allow myself to think too far ahead
i’ll wait and see. i follow the dictum of sextus empiricus, the original skeptic, who believed that you should hold yourself in a state of “mental suspense.”
i dont expect the worst, but neither do i expect the best. i wait to be happily surprised.
of course, i worked 7 years in a busy emergency room. that sort of formed my outlook on life.

I hope you are right. But there is still the summer of 2010
Aka the “Free Agent Sweepstakes of the Century”. That could significantly alter the landscape in the NBA, and change the balance of power for the next five years and more. I don’t need to repeat which names are in play. After that summer, Cleveland could be a dominant force with two max players. Or New York. New Jersey. Orlando. Memphis (don’t laugh). The Lakers might be dead. Or not.
Also, the Isiah Thomas dumbness is not out of the league already. E.g. Utah owns the Knicks 2010 first round pick. Unprotected. If the Knicks continue to screw up and send out all of their expensive guys hoping to land The One, a collateral damage could be that Utah lands a top draft prospect. Maybe it doesn’t matter when Boozer and AK47 run away before that.
Or an aging team sucks massively for one or two years and lands a Tim Duncan in the draft process like the Spurs did. Mavs anyone? Suns? Celtics?
Little things like that can prevent a decade of Blazer dominance. We will see.

Congratulations redandblackattack! You are an honorary member of the BlazerHomer Club...
just kidding. :)
Your enthusiasm is great, so while you may be jumping the gun a little here, it still made for a fun read.
Right now I am just hoping that the Blazers can sustain this level of play for most of the regular season and go strong into the playoffs.

I am usually an optimist but ...
What if you are right? What if the Blazers do manage to win it all, and very shortly? And what if they stay right there at the top for the next ten years? What if they fashion an NBA dynasty to make all others pale in comparison?
Now consider what that means if the conventional wisdom is correct — if it’s true that the league can only be successful if the major market teams dominate. Then, Portland’s dynasty spells the doom of the NBA!
So, ponder this for a minute. If the triumph of the Blazers must inevitably lead to the downfall of the NBA, shouldn’t we, as sophisticated and caring sports fans, instead hope for a resurgence of the kind of rivalry that infused such vitality into the league back in the days of Bird and Magic? Shouldn’t we hope for a decade of Lakers-Knicks finals? Ought we not to set aside our selfish hopes for Blazer dominion and root against our team for the sake of all?
[…]
Nah. :)

If we really do get to a consistent championship caliber level this scenario is likely.
If Lebron stays in Cleveland I see them as a possible perennial finals team. Or maybe Orlando, the Lakers, or NO too. 2010 will be quite the year in deciding a lot of teams fate I think.

Paul Allen isn't actually the richest owner in ALL sports.
There are some dudes that own futbol/football/soccer teams in Europe that out-rich Mr. Allen. A couple crazy rich crazy dudes with crazy pasts and crazy stories about how they got so stinkin’ crazy rich.
Just an FYI.
I’m freakin’ excited, too. I really really really really REALLY hope that we can avoid the devestating injuries… minor ones we can deal with.

Mr allen has been blowing his fortune
on X-plane competitions and other big ticket toys for the superwealthy. I think he quit investing (for profit) years ago and just decided to try and spend his remining fortune over the remainder of his lifetime. THere aren’t that many wealthy who can say that they have enough $$; Paul Allen may be one of the very few.

I love that!!
See, that’s the deal – if they all like each other and are not fighting over the available minutes, but working hard with each other to make each other better, then of course the right move is to stand pat and let them continue to develop.
