Would you pull the trigger in order to compete this year or are we giving up too much?

BTW, I'm not trying to be a troll

This could be attractive to Phoenix – if they really value Webster and 2009 cap space, plus you get the Rudy/Sergio combo and Blake to help compensate for the loss of Nash. I don’t know, I just read some speculation about how Phoenix might be looking to move Nash.

I don't think you're a troll and commend your use of a FanShot instead of a FanPost

but Nash is older and getting older. You are sacrificing our future for two or three good years of Nash. Could we reload later on? Sure. But I still don’t think this is the move you wanna make. Let’s find a PG who can be with us for the next decade. Who knows, maybe he’s already on our roster (Sergio/Bayless).

I'd rather...

not pull that trigger and STILL compete.

… you troll…

Why do it?

When everything is working right now. Give this team atleast 1 year to play through cause we dont know our limits. Unless we get a young player we cant resist like G Wallace, D harris etc

"All our holes," says shooting guard Brandon Roy, a surprise All-Star last year in his second season, "are holes that Greg is going to plug."

Lets get rid of our promising talent

…for someone who will be retired by the time our championship window would opens up completely.

Not a fair analysis

This would open our window NOW.

Doesn't mean I want the trade, I don't.

The front office's goal does not consist of this year alone.

We’re in the most enviable position of all: poised to make championship runs starting possibly as soon as next year, and running through 2019. Don’t give that up for one shot now. Could we make it this year? Sure. But at what cost? Fortunately, that’s not just my opinion, but seems to be the plan.

Steve Nash would be pretty good, but not around when we are the most ready.

It wouldn't make sense for either team.

I explained the reasons for that in an earlier comment, so there’s no need for me to rehash it.

We do not need a allstar point guard

We have Brandon Roy. We are 8th in the league in assists. Don’t need Nash.

by Sabonis4Ever on Dec 1, 2008 8:10 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

At the same time

he would fill our exact needs at PG being that lock-down defender we all know…
Plus he fit right in with our time table.
Triple that with the fact that he’s on the rise of his career and I can’t think of a player who could make us better in the whole league.

by Blenzer on Dec 2, 2008 7:36 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

good one

but you can’t deny Nash would improve us immesnly. He’s 10X the jump shooter blake is (long-term, blake’s on a streak) and that’s all Blake contributes now. We’re trying to institute more motion into the offense but the fact is Blake and Roy can’t pass well leading a motion offense, neither are able to. Motion is the best way to utilize all our weapons on the floor at the same time, Nash would make Roy/LMA and Oden’s jobs so much easier and get them some EASY buckets in the paint (something we haven’t seen in years). Roy would still be our iso guy and his shooting would make our bigs a lot better.

Oden working down low with LMA on the other side and Brandon, Nash and Webster on the perimeter, or Aldridge working down low with Oden open for a lob and those three on the perimeter…straight up filthy.

Nash seems like a good guy..

but he wouldn’t fit in with what Nate wants his point guards to do…defend. Nash’s defense is offensive!

what about nashs age?

how old is he? 34?

idk about bringing in a guy like that unless we are legitimately looking for a title run this season, which is too early imo

no thank you. I like the idea of nash as a blazer...

but not now. He has trouble with his back in the playoffs every year after the long season, makes a $h!% ton of money, and is aging fast. KP and Nate constantly say they’re building this team for the future. Getting Nash would be too costly. I would, however, be willing to part with big pieces ( not Roy, Joel, Greg, or LMA ) for a young stud PG like Calderon, Rondo, or Rose ( no delusions of grandeur of getting any of those players, I’m just saying ), but not a PG who is well past his prime like Nash.

by dario argento on Dec 1, 2008 9:10 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Huh?

How does he make too much money? He is not even in the top 30 of highest paid stars, and he won 2 mvp awards. As far as superstars go he is definitely not overpaid. He is well worth the money. It only seems like he is overpaid compared to our players because many of them are still on their rookie contracts. He maybe on the downswing of his career, but he still can provide a lots for Bayless and Sergio to learn from.

Whoops! Agreed he is worthy penny of his salary.

I stand corrected. For some reason I thought he made closer to 20 million. I still don’t like what we would have to give up to get him. You can bet there’s no way we don’t have to give up LMA, Roy, Greg, or Rudy to get him. Getting Nash would feel like a Dallas for Kidd trade last year; mortgaging our future for an outside chance at winning a title now.

by dario argento on Dec 2, 2008 8:59 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Sure Buddy

Lets get rid of all our young talents + Blake for a washed up or soon to be washed up point guard. Dallas did it last year with Jason Kidd, Look how well that turned out for them. Harris is tearing up the league while Kidd is in the middle of mediocrity in Dallas. Nash is 34 …pretty old for a point guard. At MOST, he has about 2 good years left …if that.

by Balian on Dec 1, 2008 9:52 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Nash is much better than JKIDD

Nash is the 4th best 3 point shooter in NBA history, since shooting is all Blake currently contributes we wouldn’t be hurt at all. You see how players move around when Sergio is in the game, double it with Nash. It makes me sick to look at LMA and Oden’s statline because it’s all hard earned buckets, there’s nothing on the break or easy dunks near the hoop, because neither Blake or Roy know how to get it to them in the right spots down there. That changes immediately, in fact LMA and Oden develop much quicker with Nash.

I don’t think we’d need to get rid of ALL our young talent as Dallas did (DHARRIS was their ONLY young talent) and with the consolidation getting rid of SOME of our young talent would benefit the rest of the young talent that was left still here (which would be most of it). Almost all of our team is young talent right now, they’re not all gonna re-sign for us pal. We need to balance it out with some vets who are on their way out. A PG would greatly increase the development of our other guys.

though I agree

I would not want to give up Rudy for Nash straight up, much less Rudy, Sergio, and Webster. I think the trick is identifying our “spare parts” that we probably won’t keep anyways and packaging them.

To me it’s Blake and Outlaw I’m most willing to get rid of. (in an upgrade for a PG)

That trade was justified

It just didnt pan out…their window was closing and they needed a big push to win NOW. They basically mortgaged their future and it didn’t work out…but the risk vs reward was well justified.

We on the other hand don’t need to be disparate. Our window is opening rather than closing. If we were to make any trade it must heavily tip in our favor…or else we can just hold our cards. We have no incentive to trade since we are doing so well. If someone is going to give us a steal a la Pau Gasol…then pull the trigger.

The Trout + Change for D Harris trade is looking good right now tho.

yes

Blake/Bayless/Outlaw
for
Steve Nash

Gives them more half-court & shooting pieces, gets us experience, offensive flow, pick n roll master, and the ability to get our guys easy buckets (greatly accelerating GO and LMA development).

Nash/Sergio
Roy/Fernadnez
Batum/Webster
Aldridge/Frye
Oden/Pryzbilla

that’s a contender IMO. Nash has the swagger and experience (not to mention toughness) to put us right up there with the Lakers. After next season (Nash expires) we could renew him for cheaper or let him walk and rest with mainly going Roy and Rudy backcourt with Sergio as the third guard, we could sign a FA PG, and we can still develop Koponen, plus we have a 1st round pick and 4 seconds next season.

My personal favorite 2009-2010 team

Nash/Sergio/Aaron Miles/Koponen
Roy/Rudy
Batum/Webster/Desmond Mason
Aldridge/Frye
Oden/Pryzbilla/Freeland

with one free roster spot, that’s a good ratio of talent, complimentary players, vets, guys in their prime, and young guys. Oden would have a year of experience, Miles is local, Koponen is still aways away but gets acclimated to America, Freeland is high potential, and Desmond Mason is going for a ring (as a tough insurance player). Odds are one of Roy, Rudy, Webster, or Batum gets hurt at some point during the season for at least a little while getting him some time.

Nash gets to extend his career playing less minutes and not having to create everything every time down the floor. He gets to play with big scorers, perimeter scorers, and post defense at the same time for the first time in his career. And he gets open shots all day to show off his 4th best in NBA HISTORY 3 POINT PERCENTAGE.

My Favorite Non-Blazers: Dwight Howard, Andre Iguodala, Allen Iverson, Andrei Kirilenko, Gilbert Arenas, Elton Brand, Jermaine O'neal, Chris Bosh

actually

he’s killing it over in Europe right now playing fantastic. May not want to come back and sit on the bench. He was a training camp invite last year but sprained his ankle. Same year he went on to lead his team to beat CSKA Moscow in some big tournament upset and win some championship. He had a good summer league too and was thought to make an NBA team. Solid defender, great at running the show, good on the break, can’t shoot worth a crap (no wonder he didn’t succeed in Nellie-ball). Very un-risky passer.

I’m not sure we should bring him, Nate may like him way too much.

Steve Nash? ABSOLOUTELY!!!!!

But only if he is getting younger as years pass instead of older.

Don't forget Raef.

Interesting, but not likely to happen. This entire scenerio assumes that Bayless is ready to backup Nash now, and will be that future PG. But that is just an unproven assumption. Right now, Mac isn’t ready to play him. And if Bayless is not ready to play 16 – 20 minutes a game right now, and he’s not your future starter, then not only does he not make the 2nd team better, but in a couple of years, when Nash is pretty much done, the pieces you’ve traded are gone, and so is Nash. And since at that point Nash will have no trade value, you’re then left scrambling for another point guard who can start.

This trade also assumes that Batum/Outlaw are the best combination at SF, and we lose our backup SG/SF in Fernandez when his trade value is not as high as it will be downstream.

Another issue with this scenerio is that it did not include LaFrentz. Phoenix is going to have to reload at some point, as both Shaq and Nash are at the end of their careers. KP knows this. Phoenix is already having to think about this. Raef’s contract, and the loss of Nash, would open up a lot of cap space, and that could also be attractive. And that could reduce the players we might have to trade to get Nash.

KP has said that his focus in getting value for Raef. Work that into these secenerio’s, and you’re probably closer to what might happen.

Let's just make it a team of NASHes

Trade for Steve Nash to be a player.
Bring back our old GM John Nash to negotiate more bad trades/drafts.
Get John Nash, that math nerd from “A Beautiful Mind”, to run our books.
We can move the team to Nash county, North Carolina.
And our official team song could be…you guessed it…“The Monster Nash!”

No more bad trade ideas please.

I now go by RMC Brannon. That's right Rudy Man Crush!

by Brannon49 on Dec 2, 2008 7:25 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Why Not?

He’s one of the great PG’s of the generation. He’s still the saviest player on the Sun’s roster. He wouldn’t have to play long minutes so his back should be rested. He would be a great complement and a stabilizing force for a team that needs some floor leadership when Roy sits. You could do worse than Nash.

I like Nash.

I just think that’s a little too much to give up for him. I know….I’m a homer. D’oh!

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

If we traded all those guys to Phoenix

and Terry Porter remains their coach, it would be hard to not like them.

I like the concept of the deal, but 3 for 1 would be enough. We can pull one of those guys back, I think – or, give them a draft pick or money or something instead. – Elgin.
