How is this even possible? The Blazers are a 119th out of 122 professional sports teams in the Turnkey Team Brand Index.

What is the Turnkey Index?

I suspect this is some kind of marketing thing and has little to do with basketball. The Clippers are higher than the Celtics for godsakes.

Hmm, I'm going to have to go with

not good news, but not bad news either, because as far as I can tell, not news at all.

Interesting ranking. What is it ranking? Can anyone make sense of this?

Blazers narrowly edge out… Seattle SuperSonics at 120.
Top NBA team on the list is Spurs at 6. Then you’ll find Mavs, Heat, Rockets, Bulls, Jazz, Minnesota Wild (???), etc, etc above… Lakers at 73. Buffalo Sabres are at 4. You could go on and on.

well, if you're curious as to what this list means

http://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/article/56926

In late May and early June, Turnkey polled about 12,000 adult sports fans in the 47 North American markets that are home to a team in the NFL, NBA, NHL or Major League Baseball, surveying at least 200 and as many as 500 fans in each market, depending on the number of teams in each town.

They asked 20 questions relevant to each team’s brand: 14 meant to measure popularity and six meant to measure loyalty. They also asked fans to assign a letter grade, A through F, to each team’s owners. They blended those results to create the top-line number that they’re calling the Turnkey Team Brand Index, which endeavors to rank the strength of each of 122 team brands in its respective market.

I think we can agree something's funny
The Turnkey Team Brand Index is a measure of a team’s brand strength only in its home market. It quantifies and compares the brand strength of, for example, the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte to the brand strength of the Boston Bruins in Boston.

That is really hideous

Oh, that is sooooo wrong

OK, June was awhile ago, but still …. Wonder how they selected their 200 “fans”. If they are “fans” don’t they already have brand loyalty? I want to know details!

Maybe someone thought

Portland Blazers played in Maine and noone out there was loyal to them…

I know PDX doesn’t get a ton of national rep.. although that is moving up all of the time.. but the level of loyalty within market would have to propel us to better than no place

Ah

Odenator got us! Good catch.

So the survey was in June 2007 – probably before the draft. You are right. No news.
