The official "Say the opposite" post!

Even with Portland reaching .500 last night, everyone's in a pretty frustrated mood. It's made for a very divisive site lately. Everyone's arguing about who sucks, how much, and why.

So lets do the opposite today.

Take a few minutes to think about the Blazers-related person you LEAST enjoy. Now talk about some of the things you really like about them, things they do well, reasons you like seeing that person. If possible, try coming up with something that previous people have not said.

We're going to try to have a thread where everyone's positive, even though it's specifically about the people they don't enjoy.

I'll start:

- I loved Nate's technical foul last night. Sure, it's an old and transparent trick to spark the team... but it worked. Nate rarely gets technical fouls, and his defense of the team picked up their spirits, big-time. It was really great to see.

- Travis Outlaw has a really underrated aspect: He's a "glue guy" on this team. He's friends with a lot of people, and, as the eldest team member, has helped the team gel as friends and teammates. If we trade him, I'd really miss that aspect of his role on the team.

Join in. Do the opposite! Say something nice about someone who drives you nuts.

Sergio

Sergio is very accurate on his pick and pop passing. The pass usually reaches the shooter at just above waist level which is ideal for the shooter to shoot in rythmn.

Interesting post, I was thinking about something like this. Rec'd

A psychological/economic concept behind this is called Appreciative Inquiry, which can be used to analyze and improve companies, careers, etc. You basically ask people to focus on what goes really well, and not on what isn’t working like usually done in improvement projects. Find the benefits in a situation to identify and improve your key strengths, and not try to find all the faults.

Will come back to this post when I have thought about something for our players and organization.

I agree, good post

I’d rec it if it werent for another egregious use of the word “suck.” That word seems to be in about every third post these days.

Want me to edit it? :)

I used the word specifically because it’s being used so much… makes sense to mirror the opinions.

I don’t mind changing it though.

Every shot Travis Outlaw takes is ...

No, stop, wait, dude, pass out of the double team, no, no, no, don’t shoot from there, you’re not even open, DON’T SHOOT! NOOOOO! OH … UH … YES! YES!!!

I love em all.

Diogu played hard last night. Sergio made a lay in. LMA and rebounding!!!!!! That’s nice, very nice.

Great post. The optimism is a nice break.

Hey, I know this is a feel good post, but what's with all the Spaniards

hating on the rest of the team? I understand why they’d want the best for their countrymen, but if they’re going be representing themselves as fans, it’d be nice if they were team fans. Is there some sort of cultural difference here? Is it typical for Spaniards to be such huge fans of a person, perhaps to the team’s detriment? You don’t seem that way in the least.

I´m not interested about fans or their behavior except in Blazersedge, so I don´t know what is the typical Spanish fan´s reaction.

If the Blazers get Spanish fans because they have Spanish players probably most of them will be jump out of the bandwagon as soon as those player leave.

realize we have a team of very, very, very, young guns. With just a handful of season amongst them theres a tone of learning to do. I like when folks point out how our payers are learning, the new tricks they pick up, and the scars they are developing.

Twist

I LOVE our FANS! Especially the ones who criticise every missed shot and every poorly ran play. I may not be that kind of fan but that doesn’t mean I’m the perfect fan. I support my team no matter what and I tend to try and avoid negative thoughts. I figure if I were out there playing and my fans were booing me?! I’d just as soon give’m the bird! So since they are only human, I figure maybe they do care and could use a little support from time to time. Anyway what it comes down to is the fact even fans differant from myself ARE fans and I appreciate the support they give the team even if it is only on good nights!

You think I know the first thing about how hard your life has been, how you feel, who you are, because I read Oliver Twist? Does that encapsulate you? Personally... I don't give a $hit about all that, because you know what, I can't learn anything from you, I can't read in some fukin' book. Unless you want to talk about you, who you are. Then I'm fascinated. I'm in. But you don't want to do that do you sport? You're terrified of what you might say. Your move, chief.

I'm so thankful that we lost the 2001 Western Conference Finals game 7...

We were soooo lucky to blow that 4th quarter lead.

Had we won that game, we would have gone on to win the NBA championship that year and probably once or twice more this decade. That would have continued the JailBlazer era beyond where it eventually ended. We probably wouldn’t have KP today, nor Nate, Brandon, LMA and Oden.

Thank god we blew it. We would probably be more successful, but we’d still have a bunch of shmucks in the organization.

I love Comcast!

Since Comcast won’t distribute the rights to the games, I don’t have to spend the money on League Pass. I also won’t spend hours of my life sitting in front of the television this season being tempted by products and services I might have spent money on. Yep, it’s a good thing Comcast is holding out. Now I can save money, use the saved time for exercise, and do things that get me completely away from the TV. That’s a great marketing idea!

Thanks, Comcast!

Nate Love:

I love how he conserves our players energy by not making them run. Oh wait …. that was facetious and that’s not what this thread was supposed to be about probably.

Something sincere:

I love that Nate is basically a good, very hard working coach.

I love that Nate commands respect from his players (unlike Mo Cheeks). I love that he bailed out of Seattle for our lowly country bumpkin team.

I love that Nate is respecting at least one of our two Spanish guards. I love that he has FINALLY showing Joel some respect (which even seems to have graduated to love judging from his comments following the Minnesota game).

I love that Nate is nice to those interviewing him at half time.

I love that Nate represents our team and city with oodles of class.

I love that Nate is a serious student of the game.

….. and, if he will only give Sergio a fair chance (to succeed or fail) and he works to take advantage of our thoroughbreds by incorporating somewhat of a running game, I will love Nate unequivocally!

Oden..

I still believe that he could be all that he was hyped to be. Perhaps all the early problems will allow blazers to bring him along at a pace that will work out
Nate.. He does seem really good at getting young players to work on fundamentals and on working together. I still think that the praise from his fellow coaches at the olympics is worth some faith in him.
By the way, after writing this, I realize it is really hard to do this properly and not turn to sarcasm. I am going to think more about Nate’s good points.

I love all the trade rumors and ideas posted on BlazersEdge

It gives me something to do with my life so I don’t have to think about reality—I can put off employment issues, ignore my friends and family, stop going to the gym and eating healthy, and etc.

The trade ideas are usually very realistic, they usually make sense for the future of the team, and there are never enough of them.

That Frank Caliendo has brought craftsmanship back to the impersonation. Seeing someone acting vaguely like someone else I am familiar with really brightens my mood. This is the direction comedy should have gone from the beginning. Aristophanes’ Socrates impersonation supposedly brought the house down.

Some thoughts on the "end of our bench"

Sergio is high on intangibles (such as working really well with Rudy), has good team leadership skills, runs the floor well, and can still develop into a player like Jason Williams with his flashy passing skills – who has a ring after all.

Shavlik was the sensible pick over Shaun Livingston and Steven Hill as the 15th man. He has more tangible and immediately useful skills than those two. He has a good basketball IQ and learned under one of the best college coaches ever.

Ike was a great player in college (dominated Pac-10 in rebounds and points) and smooth with some really good moves in Golden State. There is no reason why he couldn’t regain that ability which would make him highly valuable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nrw4KBYvZI

by Norsktroll on Nov 10, 2008 3:18 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I don't have anybody on the team I least enjoy.

I like our team. The closest I can come is perhaps Ike, and that’s only because I’ve seen so little of him.

If I had to say something nice about people I least like, it would be some of the fans. (Even then it is not a matter of dislike. Just not agreeing with them and a bit of frustration about their reasoning or lack of patience.)

I appreciate your passion for your team.

3. Sergio is trying much harder out there in every aspect of his game
4. Outlaw still makes me smile more than any other Blazer (also cry, but that is another post)
5. I am looking forward to Webster returning

Gotta love ’em. They are so cheerful and hate-free.
