Although I’m surprised you didn’t go with “Sergio, have you ever seen a grown man naked?” Your restraint is impressive, Tom.

I truly hope KP doesn't do knee-jerk reactions
He seems so even-headed. I sometimes thinks if he read these threads today, he’d facepalm and stop reading.
I’d be real surprised if he was saying anything to Sergio other than a long version of “keep your head up”

I would like to give Sergio more minutes and see if he can keep
up his amazing assist per minute ratio. The 2nd unit is more fun to watch than the first. Also, I feel the most comfortable when Rudy has the ball. I know a good pass or a good shot is coming.
I'm a little confused by your tactics

I know
two players are the black list and get grief all night long like they were K*be Bryant. I remember when I used to come here and get good info from an objective source instead of seeing our players regularly torn down on the front page. Dave are you listening? Twice in one day first the Oden joke re cricket wireless network now the Sergio. In fact he is multiple offender this week on Oden re:simmons and fan posts regarding Oden. I sure hope this comes to an end. Of course you could man up and start treating the team with respect too you know Ben.

I liked Ben’s work until recently. I fear we’re now seeing the true Ben—a very immature individual. This blog—and especially the Blazer players—deserve better. Please grow up fast or take a hype, Ben.

UPDATE AFTER PRACTICE: Sergio is upset. He had a 20-minute sitdown with Pritchard, then spoke about his frustrations about playing time. He didn’t necessarily ask for a trade, but he made it known he is having a tough time dealing with his situation. More to come …

Thanks for posting the update, damir
I’m not surprised. I’m really hopeful that dealing with this head-on will be positive.
I know there’s a number of people really down on Sergio about this. But Sergio comes across as a guy who wants to succeed and is really frustrated. Almost all of us have been there at some point. His frustration is just publicly visible.
I hope they can resolve this.

P.S. His leaving the bench last night was to use the bathroom

Also by Quick
Earlier, quick said this
In the second quarter, during a shift when Rodriguez had three assists in his first three minutes, he was pulled from the game when a timeout was called with 9:03 left and replaced with Blake.
As the Blazers huddled during the timeout, Rodriguez left the team’s bench and headed into the tunnel that leads to the Blazers locker room. Eventually, lead assistant Dean Demopoulos also left the huddle and went into the tunnel in search of Rodriguez. A minute or so later, Rodriguez came back out, with Demopoulos close behind.
But 24 seconds later, during an official timeout, Rodriguez was put back in the game.
I don’t want to make too much of this – it could have been a problem with a shoe, it could have been nature calling, or it could have been Rodriguez losing his cool. I don’t know. The game ended so late I didn’t get a chance to interview Sergio after the game.
Now we know why:
P.S. His leaving the bench last night was to use the bathroom.

Quick gets bonus points for resolving this
It explains why Dean went to find him, and he was brought right back into the game when he returned.

I hate to pull a Timbo
But how many times have you watched a game where someone goes to the locker room to use the restroom? The camera would follow even a bench warmer, and the sideline reporter would be asking what is going on. Sergio left the game because he was pouting.

by tominhawaii on Nov 7, 2008 2:57 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah that thought crossed my mind too
I only dismissed it because I didn’t believe Nate would put a pouting player right back in the game. It’s not his style. I can’t rule out Nate yelling at Dean “Tell him to stop crying and get back here! We need to change the tempo now!”
It did sound a little cover-upish. :)

3 assists in 3 minutes
and he’s pulled from the game. That’s horse poo. And this is not an isolated incident. It’s been going on and on. Nate doesn’t like Sergio. Period. He doesn’t look to have any intention of giving him a chance either.
KP isn’t on the same page at all I don’t think. Mac also seems to be steadfast in not establishing any kind of running game. KP isn’t on the same page at all I don’t think.
Hmmm, why exactly wasn’t that extension to Nate’s contract signed earlier this year?
Nate IS a good coach in most ways, but he is going to make sure it goes his way only.

i have a lot of respect for nate…although i do question him from time to time. if sergio is gone and excels on another team, i am going to lose a ton of respect for him. a good coach adapts to the pieces on his team…nate seems to force his will onto those pieces.

trade Sergio or trade Nate
-IMO the bigest Sergios mistake is have gone to NBA too soon. Wth 2 more seasons in Europe in a top team he could become a outstanding player, much better than Blake.
i have no stadistics right here but my feeling is the euros who have been allready succesful and are stars in Europe become good or very good nba players instead the ones than there are just “futur” or potencial good players.
Marc Gasol and Rudy are top rookies this season and this not casual, i knew it from the beginning: Marc was MVP and Rudy second best player in the best league in Europe!. They have potential to become allstars in some years.
Sergio was a very good player in Spain but far to be MVP. i think he was ready to “explode” but he didnt because if u dont paly u dont improve.
i understand the Sergio fustration: even in this escenario he have been able to improve and he feels that doent mather what he do good or bad hes goig to play the same tew minuts.
-another problem is that he doesnt fits in Nate style of play. he needs to play in a running team and teammates moving all the time to “empty” spaces like Rudy does.(Roy dont)
BTW Rudy desnt fit neither in Nets style but he is to good to stay in the bench
and thats way Roy and Rudy-Sergio doesnt fit: Roy slows down the game and when gets the ball he just think how go 1 to1 to the basket in 90% of times. when Rudy gets the ball (probably even before) he just play by himself if is the best option if not not he move the ball to an other player and always do it fast.
-abaut the Segio issue:
just three options:
1- Let paly him more time even if he do some mistakes for a couple of motnhs taking time from Blake (not from Roy or Rudy) and then take a desicion.
2- trade him now
3-change style of play and/or coach

besides
I agree that Nate likes big 6-ft 4-in. point guards (like him!) who defend first and do everything else second.
Sergio does not fit this mold. Neither do Blake and Bayless, really.
I’ll be sorry to see any of the three of them go. I wonder if Blake talks to Sergio about these sorts of issues.

Looks like KP just let Sergio vent a little
And that’s probably all the kid needed. My hunch is that Sergio will be fine. His minutes will go up a hair, the team will win, and all will be fine in Blazerdom. Until Bayless starts making waves, that is…

You can tell Bayless won't last much longer..
Just the change in demeanor. He wants to play so badly.. Just about every rookie is getting minutes this year around the league except him..
By the deadline, Trade Blake and Outlaw. Even if they are in exchange for draft picks or expiring contracts. We need to move forward with the future. Blake is great, but not our future.

Hate to say it, but true
Blake….is…not (this is hard to say)….a….championship….point guard.
There. I said it.
He can shoot the 3, which is great, but his defense is so suspect it’s not even suspect—-it’s flat out guilty. J-Bay can bring that defense, and once he learns to pass effectively and once he gets a smooth 3 point shot, he’ll be a beast.

Agreed about Blake's limitations
But check your NBA history. There’ve been a number of championship point guards like Blake. On Jordan’s Bulls teams alone, there were a few. Like I’m always pointing out, championship teams aren’t all-star teams. The closest thing we saw to one was the ‘77 Philadelphia 76ers—and the far less talented Blazers beat them in the Finals. There’s a reason for that: i.e., there’s only one ball, and there’s only so much money and so many minutes.
Bayless and Sergio may or may not develop to the point that Blake becomes expendable. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see Blake hoisting that O’Brien trophy one of these days.
